I explained that earlier too. a lot of Russians went home when the USSR collapsed. Ukraine was a place of much instability and full blown Russian corruption. not a good place to live. The USSR had been restricting migration, and once the USSR collapsed people were free to make their own choices, so many left.

It is impossible for a country that doesn't embrace technology and development, like Japan does, to fully make use of their country without a growth in population. Russia is freaking massive, with who knows what resources still waiting to be found or used. Moscow has always depended on a weak and poor east that is dependent on western Russia. its the only way they are able to maintain power. A real government, running a real economy would be able to mobilize far more of its resources.

case in point, the world has seen about a 25x growth in GDP since WW2. Russia's GDP has only grown about 6-7x in that time frame. Meanwhile the US GDP has grown more than 50x, while China has grown close to 100x.

I explained the reasoning population matters, you ignored that part on purpose and didn't respond to it.

I disagree they are doing really well. they have lost their comparative status in the world. they haven't seen the same massive growth the rest of the world has. because they are moving slower that means others have caught up to them, others have passed them, while we have increased our lead.

you can look at just about any metric and see there is a bigger difference between them and the US. while the rest of the world has caught up to Russia. GDP per capita, life expectancy, standard of living, production, overall GDP.

2024 Russia being "better" than 2000 Russia is a meaningless standard. they don't have to be involved in the global economy to see the same growth. plenty of it happened before there was a global market. if there was any type of real planning or economy over in Russia they would have kept pace, but they haven't. Russia's leaders have never wanted Russia to actually be wealthy or healthy, both of those breed independence, and that spells death to the rulers of Russia. they have successfully kept their own people down.
