War in Ukraine

Biden and Democrats termed the China travel ban racist and xenophobic, and Dems used it to describe three Marxist Hispanics getting tossed off the SF school board; neither are 'races'.

Don't get picky with the scattershot use of "racism!" now, Bub. That happens when you FUBAR language as political weaponry.

Bowl and his marxist ilk can't help themselves about labeling every thing some phobia, they just don't think.

*IF* Ukraine has air defense, this war is far from over. In fact, I'd say the Russians are completely F'd.

I read somewhere that Putin has two weeks to wrap this up before support within Russia completely dries up. Not sure his popularity matters but that coupled with economic sanctions that will get the attention of everyone within Russia (and the planet) will put him in a really, really tight spot.

The west needs to give him an out where he can save face and not allow this to spill over into hitting a bell that can't be un-rung.

Turkey and Erdogan will take advantage, and I'm not so sure China isn't looking at the Far East territories of Russia at this point before they even make a play on Taiwan..
It’s a ballsy move by Erdogan and kudos to him for standing up to the short man complex riddled Putin. His expiration date has been reached if he doesn’t roll Ukraine then he goes and Crimea and the eastern breakaway regions go back to where they belong.

As far as Xi possibly being opportunistic and carving out some pieces of your Motherland? Well if it happens…

That would be something if Xi took this opportunity to redraw a few lines.

Interesting. Yeah, I'm curious what the oligarchs are thinking at this point. They just got banned from the West and all their assets frozen. If Russia is booted from SWIFT, their stock market will drop another 20% and the Ruble will continue to get smacked.

At what point would the rich guys begin to question the wisdom of this fight.

One has to wonder if the oligarchs were satisfied with the kleptocracy and how not being a part of that and being unable to rape Russia would be appealing.

My understanding is that Putin basically told the richest that 50% of their wealth was Putin's and that they could keep the other 50% and continue "earning". Their alternative was that he take 100% of their wealth and throw them in jail.

Some of them may take this opportunity to flip.

Putin’s allies abandon him over Ukraine invasion

Several of Russia's closest allies and former Soviet satellite states have sharply rebuked President Vladimir Putin over his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

Czech President Milos Zeman and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, both historically strong pro-Russian voices in the European Union, condemned the affront as "an unprovoked act of aggression," AP reports.
  • "Russia has committed a crime against peace," Zeman said.
  • Zeman, who earlier this week insisted that Russia wouldn't attack Ukraine, changed course and has called for harsh sanctions against Russia, including pulling out of the SWIFT financial system.
  • Orban, who has pursued a diplomatic and economic strategy with Putin called "Eastern Opening," condemned "Russia's military action."
  • “Hungary’s position is clear: we stand by Ukraine, we stand by Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” said Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijijarto, per AP.
What's happening: Kazakhstan, one of Russia's closest allies, denied a request for its troops to join the attack on Ukraine, per NBC News.
  • The Czech Republic closed Russian consulates in the country and stopped issuing visas to Russians except for humanitarian cases.
  • The president of Bulgaria, which was Russia's closest ally during the Cold War, said the invasion was "absolutely inadmissible."
  • The ruling coalition leaders in Romania called Russia "the architect of the worst security crisis since World War II."
  • Moldovan President Maia Sandu said Russia’s attacks were launched "in violation of international norms," and the international community "unanimously condemns these military actions."

I assume they have good intelligence that tells them things aren’t going great for Russia in the battle. Thus the abandoning.

It's circumstantial rn, but I believe Russia used at least one very large explosive, and I believe they are in a dogfight. The hacker society really hurt them. took down their state news and infiltrated russian military. Russian are being cooked in a hail of molotovs.

This might sound a little strange but the "hacker society" worries me. What happens when it's us. They are not the good guys. That is why what Clinton said is so woefully stupid as a former Sec of State. We've seen this an enemy of my enemy is my friend scenario played out time and again in foreign affairs. Long-term it doesn't work out well. Rogue hackers even need to be found and brought to justice even if after the fact.
