Basically, the outcome was always going to be bad for the Ukraine.... Europe could have saved itself, that probably isn't going to work now. It doesn't matter who you voted for, it was coming down to the end in the Ukraine.

Now I am still in a "wait and see" approach as things tend to be coming out that paint a different light in a lot of these stories but us giving in to most of Russia's demands does not sound like success at negotiating.

Part of the United States global strength has always been its ability to "soft" power and have friends. This hurts that a little. I do agree with Trump that our friends haven't been the best but this is only isolating them further.

Honestly, if I was President today, priority #1 in my diplomatic world would be to push all our Allies to start imposing similar tariffs as we have on Chinese goods. If Europe wants to be our friend, they need to join us in our economic war with China against the low labor costs. It is the best way to also save their industry on their continent. I would also be looking to impose tariffs on all low labor nations (India, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.). I would call it a "Humans Right" issue as well to win the diplomatic front.

We need to push more investment. Stop laying off people and cutting costs. Start putting more capital into the market and drive consumer purchasing. The 1950s were the golden age not because we were cutting jobs and reducing spend but because we were doing the opposite. Healthy economies are driven by strong consumer purchasing.

My point is that these nations have been here for the United States and we have been there for them.

Heck, even the reason for the three wars that listed were misguided but not evil. In Vietnam, we wanted to protect democracy in South Vietnam; in Iraq, we wanted to depose a cruel dictator; in Afghanistan, we wanted to depose a brutal religious regime.

All of them (except maybe Iraq, jury is still out) have been utter failures. That happens. USA isn't all powerful. To me, there is no way to change Afghanistan without being a brutal actor that comes in and basically forces them to convert away from Islam or die. We would have to have done the Roman approach of Romanizing them (basically, in our definition, convert them to Christianity, make them follow American ideas, etc. Brutally execute anyone that had any ties or showed any sympathy to the Taliban). Afghanistan isn't unconquerable like everyone states. Alexander the Great, Persia, Genghis Khan, and others took the region but they were extremely brutal to any opposition.

Honestly, if you look at the Ancient World, they even make Nazi Germany look normal. Genocide, slavery, brutal executions, etc. were common place throughout that era no matter where you went in the world.

I think the war in Europe is a little different when it happens in the future. Russia will be out of the game for a while since it has lost so much of its equipment. I look for internal strife within individual countries themselves leading to multiple civil wars, then some countries like France may try to intervene. Germany is the powder keg that few are talking about right now. Good things never happen when they take up arms.

I think this is the real issue. Trump is so obsessed with living up to all his campaign promises. We (USA) have little control over this situation. Sometimes **** happens in a world of 8 Billion that we have no ability to control. We are not Emperor of the World.

To be frank, Trump should have never even said anything about the situation. USA should not be involved at all IMO. Our involvement just weakens us as we don't have the Finances to support Ukraine long-term. China is the real winner here with how things are going.
