War in Ukraine

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich says he is giving 'stewardship and care' of the club to charitable foundation trustees

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich suddenly handed over the "stewardship and care" of the Premier League club to its charitable foundation trustees on Saturday.

The move came after a member of the British Parliament called for the Russian billionaire to hand over the club in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovich, who has owned Chelsea since 2003, made no mention of the war in Ukraine in his statement and, significantly, is not relinquishing ownership of the club and can still provide funds, presuming he is not sanctioned by the U.K. government.

Abramovich was not involved in the detailed day-to-day running of the club in any case, with that role performed by his close confidante and club director, Marina Granovskaia, in conjunction with technical and performance adviser Petr Cech.

He did, however, have the final say on key decisions, including player transfers and the future of respective head coaches, something he will now step back from, sources have told ESPN.

We had 585,000 solders in South Vietnam with advanced equipment and 100% control of the sky and could not defeat a determined insurgency. Russia does have the advantage of being right next door but Ukraine can win if they can hold out past the initial surge and employ the same tactics the VC and NVA used against us. The key is going to be for the West to keep the arms flowing.
The terraine and fauna favors Russia in this one. It makes a huge difference.

Does this really favor the invaders? The Ukrainians seem to be very steadfast, hopefully we can have a bunch of them come to our country as refugees. We have enough gardeners and landscapers, we need some smart people to immigrate. Of course, I'm sure the potato head will block them because most of them are white.

The U.S. Army’s Iron Dome could be headed to Ukraine

From Sept...not sure if ever happened. ID would not be good for high flying aircraft

Kiev’s Missiles Are All That Stand Between The Russian Air Force And Control Of Ukraine’s Skies
Sounds like they got some S-300's, but surely the Ruskkies could jam em
That explains it. They actually have a considerable amount of air defenses. They may be outdated, but it's still nothing to scoff at. Couple that with whatever NATO supplies them and you've got a formidable defense against the Russian air attack.

Or they may not have as many PGMs or ARGM as one would think so they have to fly low. If they cannot take out SAM sites, they are a feckless military. Frankly as evidenced by the US, that is priority and task one.

BTW, I saw something for the first time on Radartracker last night - OK about 3 this morning. An F-16CM cruising around Romania with a KC-135. I have no idea if the F-16 showed up intentionally, pilot error, or a malfunction that wouldn't allow ADS-B or MLATS to be turned off. From what I could tell the "CM" variant is a later block version of the C model, and probably intended for SEAD - there are likely some guys here who know more about that. But it is the first time I've seen an F-16 other than the one owned by Top Aces show up on a radar tracking site.

I figured China probably encouraged Putin to be very aggressive with his military to use it as a learning experience for their own plans for Taiwan. See how the world reacts, what kind of sanctions or challenges they face, and use that in their own preparations for how they want to take Taiwan.

China apparently can't build the engines they need for their new fighters - some tech is beyond stealing or simply copying. Maybe they figure at some point Putin will need money and Xi can buy a bunch of military stuff like bleeding edge engines they will need for a conquest of their own. KISS is still a winner in remote battlefields, and people all over are still hellbent on ignoring that.

Ukraine is definitely winning the propaganda war. Hopefully they can win the actual war.

Just watched an interview on Skynews with a former prime Minister of Finland. He said it was just a matter of time before Finland was a part of NATO. Said he expected Sweden to follow. He said he felt the world totally aligning against Putin will spell the end to him. He said regardless of what happens in Ukraine, that Putin's days were numbered and Russia would remove his regime internally. He basically said they won't have a choice.

Couldnt happen to a nicer guy. The only drawback on all this, even if Putin loses his position, the most likely beneficiary of it all is China not the USA. China will then spread its wings throughout the region without the Russians being able to counter them. Only one with possibility is India. Maybe that is what China had in mind when they must have encouraged Putin (silently of course) to invade. Russia succeeds and is cut off from the west. Putin loses and Russia is seriously weakened. Either way, China wins.

Couldn’t is a bit misleading, did and could 99% of the time but had no end game. The North was willing to sacrifice every fighting age soldier male or female to win, the US wasn’t. The terrain was a major obstacle in the Vietnam War but urban combat if fought correctly is just as frustrating
