War in Ukraine

You are going to hell in a fiery ball of flames. Chaos, Disorder. Learn to recognize it. Russia has infested volnation.
So anyone questioning the "mainstream" narrative and bringing up the fact that the U.S. and other countries have been meddling in the affairs over in that region since 2013 are now going to hell? Are they going to join the so called anti vaxxers in hell as well?

Note that these are paramilitary defense (average Joes w/guns). Ukraine supposedly has around 100K of these guys. They seem to be hitting the underbelly of supply lines and less-protected assets in the rear.

Most of the people in here think this all started last week....when, in fact, it started in 2013 or even earlier...with NATO expansion in the 90’s. Our foreign policy has been to overthrow elected heads of state on Russia’s front porch for decades now. It worked then...not so much now. It’s a shame lives have to be lost in this ****ed up world of geopolitical tug of war. Hopefully Americans gain a greater respect for innocent lives lost in needless wars...
Again. If it was NATO pissing Russia off why arent they attacking NATO?

They are attacking a third party. Justifying NATO. NATO was designed to protect against an aggressive expansionist Russia. Doesnt matter the bs justification Russia uses.

I have to admit, I've known how this is going to go for the Ukraine. Putin is going to outnumber and out-material Ukraine, but that has't stopped my admiration for the Ukrainian people. But I have started to feel a great deal of sadness over what will happen to them now.

Russia loses long term. The population is going to have to be subdued through a large occupying army. Russia can't afford that. We broke them financially once, we can do it again and have a pretty good start going right now. His biggest mistake was motivating Europe to get off Russian natural gas and oil. His main customer is going to be China and that's a very uncomfortable relationship.

More than that, the anger and hatred towards the Russians will become part of the Ukrainian cultural history. Maybe this century, maybe not, but that history will motivate those people to recapture their freedom. Remember, they are Slavs and it is in their DNA to hold grudges for a very long time.

Our biggest long-term issue is there's a nutcase with control of Russia's nukes and there's no internal barriers to him using them.

For now, we should be putting so many missiles and tanks on Taiwan that it almost sinks. Time to show Xi that there's a big price for backing Putin (although the quality of support he actually gave Putin probably isn't making Putin very happy). Make it so any attempt to invade would result in 20,000 PRC soldiers at the bottom of the Formosa straits.
Why don't we show Xi but stop buying products made in China? I bet that would work out just fine right now.

Russia and Ukraine have a messy history going back centuries. Much more recent history was the Holodomor which occurred in the 1930s in Ukraine. It's been mostly swept under the rug by mainstream press here in the U.S. and mainstream academics. It's also something the left does not like to discuss as it involved communists killing innocent civilians.

That hatred eventually led to the rise of people like Stepan Bandera and why many Ukrainians sided with Nazi Germany during World War 2. And why there are still groups and people in Ukraine who are ultranationist and have had hatred for Russians even to this day.

EU considers energy sanctions on Russia after nuclear power plant attack
  • EU foreign affairs ministers are meeting Friday in Brussels to discuss next steps as Moscow continues to bombard Ukraine.
  • Three European officials, who did not want to be named due to the sensitivity of the talks, told CNBC that ministers will be looking at imposing energy sanctions on Russia when they meet.
  • Russia is a crucial source of energy for the EU.
  • In 2021, the European Union imported around 45% of gas from the country, according to the International Energy Agency.

Bipartisan calls for Russian oil ban meet resistance from White House

Bipartisan calls are growing on Capitol Hill for the United States to ban imports of oil from Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, but the White House stopped short of an outright ban -- and experts said the impact would be limited.

The United States and other Western nations have imposed an unprecedented raft of sanctions on Russia, but they have created exceptions for the oil and gas sector -- from which the Russian government derives much of its income -- because of fears cutting off the supply would drive up energy prices around the world.

But Republican members of Congress have for weeks been calling for a ban on imports of Russian crude oil and petroleum products, saying it would kneecap Russian President Vladimir Putin more than the Biden administration's sanctions have so far.
"Putin's major source of revenue is selling oil and gas and Biden's given an exception," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Wednesday. "You can continue getting billions of dollars to fund the invasion of Ukraine."

Gotta say I agree with the GOP on this one. Oil will spike to $150+/barrel and it'll hurt at the pump in the short run ($5.00+ gas) but if it chokes Russia into complete economic ruin (READ: Putin gets booted), I'm OK with it for now. Of note, it appears alot of Democrats also favor this approach.

Bonus: US oil and gas industry fills in the global supply void.

Make it happen Joe.

If we had leadership here that was actually wise and just, we would have never outsourced our industrial capacity or abandoned sound energy policies. We were blessed with the ability to be self-reliant and about as self-sustainable as we could want and we wasted that blessing.

This plays right into liberal agendas hands. They have been itching for higher prices for years in order to drive down demand.

The Moscow stock exchange will remain closed on Friday

The Moscow stock exchange will not open for trading Friday, the Russian Central Bank said in a statement.
Soon after, the stock exchange said in a statement it would remain closed through March 8. The closure includes "trading and settlements on all markets of the Moscow Exchange," the statement said.

I'm vaguely aware of some of this, others here love to place the imaginary line of continuum at point x and say see, this is where it all began. But we can always go back further, and while we aren't aware, the peoples that live it are.... And they don't forget.

In war both sides are rarely innocent, but in this case one side unilaterally decided to make total war on a people.... To punish them. While Ukraine isn't innocent Russia is flat wrong here, they deserve decades of sanctions if they don't overthrow the government. Change there can only come from within.

Russian troops aiming to 'mine' nuclear plant to 'blackmail the whole of Europe:' Zaporizhzhia employees

Ukrainian journalist warns Russians are 'putting explosive materials near the buildings of the nuclear power plant'

Not good. If Russia goes full-on crazy and threatens to radiate Ukraine and its neighbors, this is how NATO and the US get dragged into this war. We simply could not idly sit by and let them irradiate Europe.

This is a problem in the grand scheme of things. If Putin and Russia feel they're going to fail, they're concept of Total War could lead to the deaths of millions.

Don’t the winds blow toward Russia?

All this outsourcing has ruined once great cities like Danville VA, Youngstown OH, and Gary IN. Of course Democrat Party policies didn't help either in at least two of those cities mentioned.

Well, guess you better tell the GOP to flip its position.

GOP wants to end Russian oil imports to US, boost production
Nah, that decision is the right decision by the GOP. I'm specifically talking about the $5 gas comment. Liberals have been calling on higher gas prices for years. Liberals should be happy about this day coming. Hell, they may even decide to throw in a gas tax increase just to make sure.

And BTW, it appears that we already have $5 gas in some places right now. If things continue on as they are, we might see that as being the floor for a period of time and not the ceiling.
