War in Ukraine

1. Too little, too late. It should not have taken this for the people there to have that right
2. Will this inspire other NATO countries in Europe to give their citizens the same rights? I mean, Russian invasion is a serious threat, right? Yeah, we know the answer to that. No 2A in NATO countries
3. Will these warhawk neo-liberals now have a change of heart here in the states? Yea, we know the answer to that one, also.
And how effective are those guns going to ultimately be? I think what is being proven is that unless you are equally armed - planes, bombs, etc.....it doesn't really matter; especially when facing a foe who has no problem with the death of innocents and the complete destruction of entire cities.

Seems absurd to use this as a way of supporting 2a.

Ukrainian-born Mila Kunis breaks silence on Russian invasion as she and husband Ashton Kutcher vow to Match $3 MIL in donations for refugees who've fled the war-torn country

Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher have vowed to match up to $3,000,000 in donations to help provide 'immediate' humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.

The couple launched a GoFundMe page on Thursday with the goal of raising $30,000,000 for Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, which are 'two organizations who are actively on the ground providing immediate help to those who need it most.'

Mila - who was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine - appeared alongside Ashton in a video shared to his Instagram account, where she spoke publicly for the first time about the 'devastating' conflict in her native country.

Generous: Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher have vowed to match up to $3,000,000 in donations to help provide 'immediate' humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees

'I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983. I came to America in 1991. I've always considered myself an American,' the actress, 38, began.

'A proud American. I love everything this country has done for myself and my family. But, today, I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian.'

Ashton sweetly added that he's 'never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian.'

Mila continued: 'The events that have unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity.'

'We're raising funds to support a relief effort that will have an immediate impact and supply much needed refugee and humanitarian aid to the area.

'The principle challenge right now is logistics. We need to get housing and we need to get supplies and resources into the area,' Ashton explained.

It was Mila who revealed that she and Ashton had 'decided to match up to $3,000,000 worth of donations to Airbnb.org and Flexport.org' through their recently launched GoFundMe.

According to the fundraiser, the freight transporter Flexport is organizing shipments of relief supplies to refugee sites in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova.

Lol

This was silly to argue before the invasion, but it’s basically childish to argue it after seeing the response of the Ukrainian people to the invaders. The Ukrainian’s ousted their puppet president, not Langley. It’s not surprising Lukashenko-lite fled to Russia.

Yeah it’s silly to argue because it’s what happened. Yanukovich was corrupt, yes, but without the US bankrolling criminals and muscle, including the Azov Battalion Nazis, this type of reaction would’ve never came.

Got any sort of proof? And no, the Nuland phone call is not proof of a CIA coup.

EU considers energy sanctions on Russia after nuclear power plant attack
  • EU foreign affairs ministers are meeting Friday in Brussels to discuss next steps as Moscow continues to bombard Ukraine.
  • Three European officials, who did not want to be named due to the sensitivity of the talks, told CNBC that ministers will be looking at imposing energy sanctions on Russia when they meet.
  • Russia is a crucial source of energy for the EU.
  • In 2021, the European Union imported around 45% of gas from the country, according to the International Energy Agency.

Bipartisan calls for Russian oil ban meet resistance from White House

Bipartisan calls are growing on Capitol Hill for the United States to ban imports of oil from Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, but the White House stopped short of an outright ban -- and experts said the impact would be limited.

The United States and other Western nations have imposed an unprecedented raft of sanctions on Russia, but they have created exceptions for the oil and gas sector -- from which the Russian government derives much of its income -- because of fears cutting off the supply would drive up energy prices around the world.

But Republican members of Congress have for weeks been calling for a ban on imports of Russian crude oil and petroleum products, saying it would kneecap Russian President Vladimir Putin more than the Biden administration's sanctions have so far.
"Putin's major source of revenue is selling oil and gas and Biden's given an exception," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Wednesday. "You can continue getting billions of dollars to fund the invasion of Ukraine."

Gotta say I agree with the GOP on this one. Oil will spike to $150+/barrel and it'll hurt at the pump in the short run ($5.00+ gas) but if it chokes Russia into complete economic ruin (READ: Putin gets booted), I'm OK with it for now. Of note, it appears alot of Democrats also favor this approach.

Bonus: US oil and gas industry fills in the global supply void.

Make it happen Joe.

I paid $4.39 at the pump in GA while traveling yesterday. Time for this admin to understand THIS is why we need to drill and be energy independent. Continue to develop renewables as well and understand it’s a matter of national security, but for the love of God, stop cutting our own legs out from under us to placate the fringe.

lol....They were armed with more than guns protected by 2A.....are you trying to prove my point.
But please, let's not let this move to a 2A debate.
You said they had to be “equally armed” to be effective. They weren’t and it wasn’t even close. You had the world’s two most powerful empires getting their asses kicked by peasant armies armed with little more than personal armaments.

Because we were not prepared to indiscriminately murder tens of thousands of innocent civilians and bomb entire cities into oblivion......as is Putin.

Russia... interesting. Well lets look at history. Poland, France and Germany have been just as much of a threat (if not more so) to Russia than the other way around. So with these mutual spats, wouldn't the sensible and pragmatic option be to go to separate corners or have buffers between Russia and everyone else? How is providing a buffer zone between the two spheres unreasonable?

Also, are you sure its just Russia? As you read this, keep in mind of what NATO stands for (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)...

NATO’s Pivot to China: A Challenging Path

Those crafty Chinese... moving China closer to Europe. So they feel threatened. Hmmmm... isn't that interesting. So when China moves closer to Europe, NATO feels compelled to get more concerned. But when NATO moves east to Russia, we expect Russia to not have the same concerns?

Europe’s Overlooked Missile Defence Dilemma

OK so here, the claim is that Iran poses a threat to NATO. I suppose those damn Iranians are moving closer to Europe and America, also. So now they feel threatened.
So Russia wants "neutral" buffer states but really that means aligned with Russia. Nothing was stopping Russia from sponsoring some neutrality program they werent a part of to those nations it wanted neutral. Could have easily pushed diplomatically for a third party instead of pushing the dichotomy.

Neutrality at the end of a gun isnt neutrality. That's what ended the USSR.

Putin doesn't hold the average Russian citizen in high regard, they are pretty much as expendable as a Ukrainian child.
Not to mention something he can use for propoganda, all he has to say is the Ukrainians are responsible.

That goes both ways. Ukraine was being used to expand NATO. I don’t think it’s super hard to figure out that Putin is not going to allow a NATO force to be built up on its western and southern borders.
That is likely what will happen now, maybe not Ukraine but if anyone was on the fence they aren't now. Putin has made his point, if he attempts to push this much further the world will be forced to take a stand.

This 100%. United States could have easily wiped the floor with Afghanistan (or hell annihilate the entire Afghan population) but the war was more political than military. Same with Iraq and Vietnam. The military didn't lose these conflicts, the politicians did and, with the exception of possibly Afghanistan, these conflicts probably shouldn't have happened in the first place.
