War in Ukraine

OK you have totally pissed me off. (Imagine glove slap to your face.) McCain is one of the great American heroes. His resistance during his captivity is legendary. Some parts of the reports are still classified.

I don't give a damn what he might have said or done that you don't like, you are not worthy to denigrate him in any way.

Remember, I'm a liberal and I say that. He was a man of honor.

Whatever honor the man amassed during his first 30 years on earth was thrown away by being a slimy politician the last 30 years of his life. You are free to have your opinion on this as are others that disagree with you.

Again I don’t agree with those mandates however they are liberal infested places where the people were elected and passed ordinances. In knox county it was pretty clear the sheriff wouldn’t enforce similar laws, so the just because a few departments out of thousands enforced actual laws passed doesn’t mean “police are on the side of tyranny”. The state police is not the same thing as local PDs and Sheriffs either. Sounds like the issue is your state and elected officials

You’re just moving the goalposts. The point is **** ordnances were passed and enforced by the police. It happened in a lot of places across the country. Stop the denial. And you should consider stop calling people who dealt with them tin foil people.

It happened. Some people’s livelihoods were destroyed. And it was enabled because the police Protect and Serve the politicians more than the citizens.

I call them tinfoil referring to the poster saying police were gonna knock down people’s doors take their guns and force needles in their arm. Ridiculous. He also said doctors and nurses were purposefully killing patients and should be executed. So yea. That’s nutty thinking and always will be. No one is “serving the politicians and not the citizens”. Don’t elect stupid people who pass dumb laws. Read up on why certain ordinances are considered constitutional even if you think they are crappy. Move to a REAL state if you live in one with idiots. The majority of the US didn’t deal with that kind of dumb lasting mandates.

Yes, Ricky, that is the point. They were orders passed at the state, city, and local levels and enforced with the help of the police.

These are not the specific events I referenced earlier, because I don’t know of a news story written about them. But here’s a general story detailing what was keeping the local police busy during COVID.

NEW DETAILS | 80 people charged in Maryland with violating COVID orders so far

In a separate instance not too far from me, a man was arrested for throwing a party where he had people at his house that were not immediate family. The horror…a super spreader event!

It’s troubling to know that the police will land on the side of tyranny, but that’s what we are dealing with. Until more in the line of work quit excusing away their culpability in this overreach, we can be guaranteed it will happen again.
Also 80 people in the whole state were given fines. Others were arrested for actual other crimes during that including the guy hosting a party with supply several dozen teens with alcohol. According to your own link

I was talking specifically about the COVID orders, but it can be easily extrapolated to other ones that one day may come about.

And I can extend your own logic to tell me exactly where you stand, despite what you say. Your logic is they are elected officials…you elected them…their mandates are the ones that must be enforced. That must also be true were there to be a vaccine mandate or a gun grab.

Which just takes us back to where I started: you cannot trust the police to do what is right by people (I.e., the constitution). You can trust they will enforce the will of the politicians. Just as they did in many places…based on flimsy declarations from local officials.

And the apologists for this behavior will sheepishly look back and make lame excuses for this out of one side of their mouth while claiming to disagree with it out of the other.

This is a monumentally stupid take. You think that link I sent to you was ALL of the people in the state arrested or fined for COVID related offenses? You think the reporter talked to all law enforcement agencies in the state? Do you think time stood still from April 2020 on?

C’mom Ricky. Think a little.

And then consider all the people who might not have been arrested but we’re strong armed into closing their business. Many of them lost forever. I’m sorry, but the enforcement arm of this operation is also culpable.

Again just because YOU and I disagree with something doesn’t mean it’s not legal or constitutional. You act like police everywhere were rounding up people and putting them in jail over not wearing masks or being vaccinated and that’s a gaslighting lie. Move to a normal city not run by leftists. I disagree with places like San Francisco and Portland too. But the only way to stop liberal plans is to vote them out. Again even though Knoxville has a liberal mayor the police and no one else supported or enforced any BS by putting people in jail. Also a health department order isn’t anti constitutional when courts say so no matter how much you disagree with it. And writing a civil ordinance ticket isn’t the same thing as hauling people to jail either.

As a politician McCain was a POS. What he did while in uniform doesn’t negate what he did out if it.

The first one out of any meeting to make sure their face and sound bytes are plastered on every news program is the first one I don’t trust . He made a career out of doing that with CNN

Yeah... your jurisdiction.

People forget that two things can be true at the same time. Ukraine could have provoked a response by its own military actions and Russia still be an aggressive invader with an unjust and wholly overboard response of its own. Russia can be evil and still be protecting its interests because it made an assessment this was worth the costs. We can still root for Ukraine while understanding that they may have inadvertently provoked this war, and done so while American funded operators were the tip of those provocations because we wanted to weaken Russia, which of course, the Russians don't like (but so what?).
Only because they are a nuclear power. Outside of that, you may be correct.

So just because it is legal, it is right?

You never disappoint me...

I don’t disagree with the bolded. And largely agree with you get what you elect, and you can vote them out or move.

But let’s just go back to where we started with this:

If the Supreme Court hadn't done what they did, we may be going down a different path right now.

And don't think that these people in power would not have unleashed the military and law enforcement on the people. They have already labeled most of us domestic terrorists. Hell, even you have a bias against certain people by calling most people that you don't agree with "sovereign citizens".

I just want to put an end to the charade that the police would not support such things. They did it with COVID in a lot of jurisdictions. And no matter how you may want to minimize it: just some people, just some fines, just in liberal **** holes. It happened, and it was more than a fine.

As a result of the laws that the police helped enforce, people lost businesses and livelihoods. You seem fine minimizing it, but it’s a big deal. I saw it happen to several people. They had to close their business while big boxes stayed open. They had to meet onerous PPE requirements that they couldn’t afford while the big chains had no issue.

And I guarantee you you’d have the same lame arguments if we were talking about forced vaccinations, vaccine passports, or a gun grab.

Ras was on they money here.
