US and ally technology is clearly helping Ukraine overcome what is more and more appearing to be an over-rated Russian army.

Here's intelligence imagery provided by a Polish consulting company that identified a group of nearly 50 Russian attack helicopters that were flown into Kherson shortly after they overran the city. Haven't read how, precisely, the Ukrainians subsequently wiped out this squadron, but reports did confirm that they destroyed at least 30 of them.

The entire fleet of Russian attack helicopters is estimated at 300, so these sorts of hits are devastating. How the Russians failed to see this coming or adequately protect it, again, suggests they're just getting outsmarted by Ukraine.

US officials decided, given the extreme political pressure at home, they could move without the coalition and not create major issues.

So, I went to the Quinnipiac site (which The Hill tweet quoted) to read the actual question.

You are correct. The way the pollsters phrased the question makes the question biased. It posed:

10. Would you support a ban on Russian oil, if it meant higher gasoline prices in the United States?

Note that if you read The Hill Tweet it states:

7 in 10 Americans polled support ban on Russian oil even if higher prices result

The word "Even" makes a big difference here. Thus, the question doesn't match the purported results which is what I initially read. The Hill twisted the poll question.

China likely has a long term deal with them that locks in a price. Maybe there is a clause for an emergency like this, but that was the point that Putin was trying to make to the Europeans. They would rather buy at spot from Russia than sign a long term deal and lock in the price.
