War in Ukraine

That, at least directly, sanctions on Russia will not hurt me. Indirectly, of course the oil shutoff will affect me greatly. But I blame Biden for that since he crippled domestic petroleum supplies
Crippled domestic petroleum supplies? Aren't we the little drama queen?

@Rasputin_Vol You seem like a nice guy, but I just can't understand your position. Everything about Russia that seems to be wrong, you throw up some comparison to the US and give some, "this is awful when the US does it, so that justifies naything Russia does," excuse. But for some reason, it's only awful when Americans do it. It's not awful when Russians do it. If it's so bad, just say so, don't berate Americans and excuse Russians. Call them both out.
I do that to turn the mirror on just how corrupt this country has become. You can call it "whataboutism" if you want. But the fact is that everything Russia is doing now, the US has done on multiple occasions across the globe.

Also, I've said this before, but Putin is fighting against these Atlantic/Anglo-American globalists that are ruining nation states on both side of The Pond. Just look at the damage these people have done in the Crown countries and in these blue states. These people have taken their masks off and you see how dangerous they really are. They need to be defeated by any means necessary... by any means necessary.

Also, it is a damn shame that this country has pizzed away our blessing by letting these corrupt and inept people run it into the ground since post WWII. We could have had peace and prosperity instead of constant war and a declining standard of living.

I keep hearing the theory that Ukraine is just the first step for Russia and many countries are next. From what I'm seeing he simply doesn't have the resources to take and hold Ukraine let alone neighboring countries
I think it’s a tar baby. He’s got this slow moving meatball of a target raining death and destruction whichever way they can, just daring us to do something. It’s probably a trap but I still want to see us engage because I think a real war for national survival is probably the only thing that has any chance of unifying this country.

I don't know how old you are but has your standard of living decreased in the last 20-30-40 years? In America you really don't have to put in much of an effort to live pretty well. Get almost any job, manage your money and don't take on excessive debt any American can live as well or better than just about anyone else in the world. Even the people of Appalachia are far better off than they have been historically. I'm not saying there aren't pockets of problems but overall we're doin' ok.

So if it was wrong for the US to do it then, is it wrong for Russia to do it now?
They had Russians being killed in Donbass and NATO/US putting military assets in their border. We would have done the same thing and been justified in this particular case.

Now going into Syria, Libya, Iraq and Serbia? With no American interests and no American lives put at risk? Totally wrong. If you find an example of Russia invading a foreign country that is no strategic interest to them and no lives being put at risk since Putin has been in charge then I'll condemn it.

Anyone who is claiming that Ukraine is just the first step for Russia and that they are going to sweep across the EU is delusional or selling a war because they are clearly not watching facts on the ground nor thinking about Putin's own interests.

Russia didn't go to Syria?

This is true. He's wrong about most stuff, but at least he's not nasty about it. I can't say that about everyone here.

Regardless of whether or not I'm in agreement with the particular point he's arguing, Ras generally impresses me by his habit of responding respectfully and staying on topic, even when the most profane insults are hurled at him.

It is like boiling a frog. It has been a gradual process, but our standard of living has declined. We have gone from a single income being able to comfortably raise a family to needing two (or more) incomes for most. It has gone from being able to work a summer mnimum wage job to pay a year of college (without scholarship) to needing to work 9-12 months on minimum wage to do the same today.

why then all the push for Federal level programs to solve all the problems that you suggest (rightly so) don't exist? (eg. Build Back Better)

welcome to the world of smaller government
