War in Ukraine

How is ISIS and the Kurds fighting in NE Syria any of our business?

Your "whatabout" excuses attempting to claw back a shred of justification is embarrassing.

If you truly believe the US shouldn't be engaged in doing the same thing Russia is doing, where then is your platform of acceptability? You've set the bar so low and keep trying to convince us why it's OK for Russia to climb over it.

I'm just wanting to see how genuine you all's concern is for innocent lives and sovereignty. If you can sympathize with Ukrainians, why not the Syrians and unvaccinated?

All lives matter?
The Syrians situation is terrible. Wasn't it their Assad who started the campaign against dissent and attacked his own people then had to be propped up by Putin? Isn't this a clear illustration of Putin interjecting himself into the affairs of a nation against the peoples will?

Something else to keep an eye on... within the last week, it appears that there is a divide that has formed between the Pentagon and the Biden Administration. You had the Pentagon last week shutdown the Polish transfer of MiG planes, and now you have this where they are rejecting the idea of a no fly zone.

"No Such Thing As No Fly Zone Lite": Pentagon Rejects Zelensky's 'Close The Sky' Request | ZeroHedge

Reiterating that the US will not "close the skies" over Ukraine as Zelensky requested, he stressed this is because "a no-fly zone means you're in a conflict with Russia."

Assad requested Russia's help. He didn't call on the United States to assist the Kurds in occupying a 1/3 of the country.

To prop him up against the will of the people he was engaged in murdering..... Let's call it what it was. We are there now to protect Kurds who would be in the receiving end of reprisals no? Any leader who has to murder his people to stay in power is not legitimate.

Lol. These are the kind of numbers that if it was the US with these losses the President would be jailed. Russia has lost more everything in less than a month that the US did in 20 years fighting two wars full of insurgents and suicide bombers.

Always knew their military was suspect.

I do feel bad for the hundreds (if not thousands) of Russian troops are just conscripted kids with zero training being sent out to be cannon fodder.

True that.

Of course, such action would only be taken by a madman, as Russia would have nukes rained upon it in retaliation.

The scary thought is that Putin could believe that joe is so inept he would fumble the football, or that he wouldn't understand in time that Russian missiles are on the way and push the button. Inept people in office defeat the MAD concept.

LOL, it's the US that's prolonging a conflict that Russia unilaterally started and has the sole ability to stop at the drop of the hat?

This invasion was 100% carried out by Putin and his pathetic excuse for an Army, your audacity to blame the victim would be hilarious if it weren't so misguidedly stupid.

You seem like the kind of guy that would blame a rape victim because her skirt was too short.

That you think Ukraine should roll over either demonstrates you're either a defeatist or your a Putin sycophant.

Ukraine isnt a victim. They picked a fight with a bigger dog and now their midget leader is going around the world begging any Nation dumb enough to help them.

Yes, Ukraine should roll over and accept the reasonable ceasefire offered them by a for that has the ability to completely destroy them or quit whining about civilian losses.

But that isnt the end of the story is it? They have IMF loans now. They owe the west allegiance and Western leaders arent fazed by civilian casualties.

You're confident stupidity is amusing.

Winning could be being up 3-0 after the first possession of the game. Doesnt make any predictors on the rest of the game. But at the time its winning.

Civilians continuing to get bombed is not Ukraine winning.
Not controlling your own skies is not Ukraine winning.
Fighting miles outside their capital and on at least two other fronts inside your own territory is not Ukraine winning.

The war isnt over one way or the other.

At least two of those things could have been said about N Vietnam, and they won the "not winning" battle they fought. There's a reason that the home team is considered to have some benefit.

How dare the Ukraine self-govern and not bend to the will of a completely separate country. Seriously, how the hell did Ukraine "pick a fight"? A sovereign country making decisions for itself doesn't equal "picking a fight". Invading that sovereign country because you don't like their decisions, now that's picking a fight.

Points wise, yea I agree. But statistics no. So you’re up 15. But have major foul trouble, 1 timeout, possession arrow in favor of Ukraine, commentators are repeatedly showcasing what a fool you have for a head coach, etc.

Russia is winning because how could they not given their advantages. But they aren’t “winning”.

Agree. Unless you count having to destroy a place to save it for yourself and alienating all the inhabitants for decades, Russia is definitely not winning. I can't see taking and holding a destroyed land full of people who would slit your throat at any opportunity as winning. It would be a bit like winning against Germany after WW1, and what that win brought next - the difference being that of occupation, and don't bet Russian occupation of Ukraine wouldn't be a lot like French occupation of Vietnam. Uneasy lies the crown - unless Russia were to go the genocide route.

I think the high amount of losses is primarily a result of the Russians philosophy toward warfare. They have a history of fighting in this manner.

Lives are cheap in communist countries and to the mind of ex communist leaders, so it makes sense they fight wars without a care for casualties. In fact, those countries became communist because lives were cheap and nobody was offering anything better ... until the communist doctrine offered a bundle of lies promising a better tomorrow ... which was only really better for the leaders.

You forgot the blue font because this is obviously intended at a joke.

No doubt the US would kick Russia's ass in a war, but the nuclear and China wild cards make it a huge deterrent.

Depends on where the was is fought. Russia has a huge landmass. If you fight there, they retreat until you follow into the trap. Think of it as a large fluffy pillow capable of smothering you. It just absorbs armies and logistics, and guerilla warfare destroys logistics and rear support bases. Probably a lot of what Eisenhower was thinking when he warned about wars on an Asian landmass ... and a big part of Russia is in Asia, although I don't think he literally thought Russia.

That makes him as incompetent as the people he trusted to inform him of their capability.

That's a problem with power and especially with bureaucracies (whether government or corporate). People at the top want the "right" answer, and people below want to keep cushy jobs, so they frequently supply the "right" answer. Don't bet our "intelligence" agencies aren't playing the same game. Seems like we missed a few big ones like the breakup of the Soviet Union.
