Was Notre Dame much better than UT?

Bama was favored by the line going into the game...so that would make the other team the underdog.

That's cool, but my point is the "number 1" team in the country should be not be allowed to play the underdog card against anyone.

Stats were pretty similar also. You have taken up the argument that UT's D is too slow... UT's D was faster and tackled better than what we saw from ND and their AA LB last night.

Did you watch Tennessee's defense this season?

6 teams in the SEC would have drilled ND last night....UT is not on the list.

Lou is suffering and confused by the beat down.

In '99 UT was #1 & if I remember correctly, FSU was favored. Didn't understand that, especially since we were 12-0 & they were 11-1.

the OP and others trying to make this argument are as dumb as a box of rocks. to even suggest that a 7 loss team is better than a 12-0 team is nuts. I'm no ND fan, but they beat about ten teams that went to bowl games this year. they blew out Oklahoma at Oklahoma. so they played a team that beat them at there own game, and you somehow try to relate them to Tennessee. just stupid.

Some of you are damn idiots. There is no nice way to say it. That Notre Dame team would DESTROY UT.

10 out of 10 times.

Please go back into your trailers while grown ups talk football.

Some of you must just be devistated by the loss to Vandy if you think we are good enough to beat ND.

I hate ND , but my God people wake up!

Alabama exposed the over-hyped under-talented Irish and whipped them. ND was supposed to have a great D, but Bama's O-line dominated them. Lacey and McCaronn were ridiculous last night.

At one point late in the 2nd, I did comment that we put up a better show against Bama than the Irish were. Could we beat the Irish this past year, seriously doubt it.

Alabama, LSU, Texas A & M, Florida, Georgia, and So.Carolina? I wouldn't bet on So. Carolina, and it depends on which Florida team shows up. I'd say the SEC would win 4 of the 6.

Any team coached by Dooley will lose to a team with equal or greater talent. Teams with less talent also stand a chance. I guess what Im saying is ND would have waxed our asses

some of you guys are sipping the SEC stuff too much. ND is a good team that just got whooped. it's hard to deny the facts that ND has NFL talent on that roster. they have guys that are big fast and strong like Alabama but they are not as deep or seasoned.

Good teams get hammered sometimes in big games. 1995 Florida vs Nebraska or 1992 Miami vs Alabama. Denver vs San Fransisco in 1989. It happens but doesn't mean every scrub team in the nation is better than the team that lost.

No, but 5-7 teams from the most powerful conference in the nation might well be.

Yes, we all agree that our defense was very disappointing, giving up so many busts and big gains.

But this thread asks, "Was Notre Dame much better than UT?"

ND was heralded as having one of the best D's in the nation, while our's was statistically in the bottom 20, I think.

Against common opponent Bama, ND held em to 529 yds and 42 pts, while we held em to 539 and 44 pts.

Was ND much better?

That WAS the question. Some got it. Thanks.

Absolutely . . . I spent last night intermittently sending texts to my Notre Dame friend updating him on what the Pope was doing after each TD. It went from throwing beer cans at the TV in the 1st quarter to smoking crack in the 4th qtr.

LOL------Visual.

i got the question which is why i used the whole tank analogy.

the key to answering your question is to not only look at how each team performed against alabama, but the entire body of work for the season.

so, how do you see tennessee going up against michigan, oklahoma, stanford, etc? odds are the teams on notre dame's schedule average 40 points and 500 yards a game against tennessee.

do you think florida runs for 300+ on notre dame in south bend or troy puts up 700+ yards of offense? does notre dame give up 40 in starkville or 50 at home to missouri?

notre dame is much better defensively than tennessee. people seem to forget that the tide piled up over 500 yards (350 on the ground) against georgia.

offensively, they are better than it would show statistically, imo
