Washington to hire Chris Peterson

From what I've heard he wanted to take over a program similar to Boise where he could build it up over the course of several seasons without the AD/Boosters/Fan base calling for his head like they would at bigger schools.

A. Big schools pay well enough to compensate for that.
B. Thats a sign of weakness if thats the excuse he's using to justify not leaving when the iron was the hottest.
C. Either way, he'll be decent but the PAC12 is better now and showing recruits clips of 3 trick plays that he called while they were still in Jr. High isnt going to be convincing enough to get them to venture away from home to enjoy the great NorthWest.

Oh, and as for "where does it rain more"...

Knoxville avg. yearly precipitation - 47.81 inches
Seattle avg. yearly precipitation - 37.41 inches

Knoxville avg. number of days with precipitation - 125.2
Seattle avg. number of days with precipitation - 152.0

Good for him. He is a west coast guy and did not want to come to the other parts of the country. Can't blame him. I don't want to ever move to the Midwest or Northeast.

Just my opinion, I think that the Pac 12 is doing something special. They are better now than I can ever remember. They just got better...

So Knoxville gets more rainfall, but Seattle has more rainy days.

Seattle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At 37.41 inches (950 mm), the city receives less precipitation annually than Boston (43.70 in or 1,110 mm), New York (49.92 in or 1,268 mm), Washington, D.C. (39.67 in or 1,008 mm), Atlanta (49.68 in or 1,262 mm), and most cities on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S.

Tons of money in Seattle. Oregon is still a powerhouse but may be on the downswing.

Peterson will do well and the program could emerge as the next Oregon if the boosters get behind it. He picked a good spot IMO.

Its still a good hire by UW. Not quite as incredible as it might have been a few years ago, but they certainly could have done worse.

Does he have ties there? Weird that he would choose them over USC

It's not that weird, Washington has a great deal of potential, plus it's an area he's recruited well. USC as much as it has a "national" reputation, it's in a horrible geographic area and has a bit of a tarnished reputation from the scandals. Washington just upgraded it's stadium and that old coliseum isn't exactly a great facility for football. Plus, in Seattle he doesn't have to deal with the LA press.

Goducks349, Warren Moon is not walking through that door.

I laugh at the assertion that the hotbed, that is Seattle, is prime hunting grounds for major college programs.

He's a very private individual. And he's a big fan of the northwest area. Warshington is a perfect fit for him.

I'm glad he's a "private individual" because he's not going to get a ton of "visitors" where he's headed.

To University of Washington.............. good for SEC or was he scared of the SEC? He could've had any job he wanted a few years ago. Thoughts?

Makes me scratch my head when people say a coach is scared of the SEC because he didn't accept a job at an SEC school. There are a lot of factors that go into a career move. Maybe he didn't want to move his family across the country. Maybe he likes living in the northwest (I lived there for a few years and it's awesome), or maybe he just liked the people he worked with.

Sure he will win more there. The Pac12 has never seen the "oopty oop" or the "annexation of Puerto Rico" ran to such perfection. But what is he gonna call on 2nd down?
