Waterboarding

That is a ludicrous rule. Would somebody really prosecute the soldier for killing an insurgent right after he killed his buddy and put his weapon down? Surely, rule or not, common sense would take over here.
the soldier would lose that fight. Them's the rules.

What is your alternative? Offer them candy if they tell you which building they are planning to blow up next?

I'm glad that you think that I think that we should be nice to them. Maybe you should actually read the f***** thing before you make such a rash conclusion.

I am sorry but that is ridiculous. In my opinion, anything that does not leave you physically scarred should be available to interrogators.

Yes, because an interrogator slapping you around doesn't leave you physically scared.

And LT didn't leave opponents physically scared.

Are you saying that if the CIA believes that a caught TERRORIST that wants to KILL innocent CIVILIANS (the terrorist being high up in their organization because we are not doing this to people low in the chain of positions) has valuable information that may prevent thousands from dying, we should not put insects in their cells or make them remain in stressful positions?

Ahh yes, the old tried and true tactic from the Karl Rove playbook. Scare the crap out of everyone, they'll vote for you/take your side then.

Worked wonders for Bush in 2004. Of course, an old horseface like Kerry also helped Bush in his quest for a 2nd term.

If they are not worth capturing then we should kill every terrorist. Soon, it sounds, we will be breaking out the Miranda card on the battlefield. Sadaam, You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in court.......

Really, who votes for these people?

Obama played his cards. We along with our enemies know where the bar is we will play by. Al Qaeda now has an easier job as does every other thug in the world. The lawyers and the field ops guys will play below that bar for fear of being prosecuted. So basically the bar Barry set is not accurate. Go lower than that and now the enemy knows our strategy and limitations.

I'm not sure what he planned to accomplish by laying all of this out. Our enemies could care less about transparency. If anything, this helps their cause because it gives them credibility in recruiting and among fence-riding Muslims. In his quest to regain some moral high ground, he has handed a legitimacy issue to everyone who opposes us.

Simply put Obama has managed to turn America into a eunuch. W may have embarrassed us with some stupid policies but our enemies knew not to toy with us. Bin Laden can come to DC and stand in Lafayette Park tap dancing all day knowing full well all we will do is sit him in jail for life at most under this administration's thinking.

Good to be back. Missed the place after over a year. Wow have things changed.

They wanted change.

They got me.

They griped about it.
(This place just isn't fun anymore)

They took their balls and went home.
(Not that they had enough balls to go around.)

The village idiot keeps me on 'ignore'.

Here are some reasons why:

Economic justice:

* America is capitalist and greedy — yet half of the population is subsidized.

* Half of the population is subsidized — yet they think they are victims.

* They think they are victims — yet their representatives run the government.

* Their representatives run the government — yet the poor keep getting poorer.

* The poor keep getting poorer — yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

* They have things that people in other countries only dream about — yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Love and marriage:

* Sex differences are the result of social conditioning — yet homosexuality is biological.

* Homosexuality is biological — yet everybody is encouraged to experiment with it.

* Everybody is encouraged to experiment with it — yet venereal diseases are treated at the taxpayers’ expense.

* Venereal diseases are treated at the taxpayers’ expense — yet taxpayers have no right to impose standards since there are no moral absolutes.

* There are no moral absolutes — yet gay marriage is an absolute must.

* Gay marriage is an absolute must — yet family is an antiquated tool of bourgeois oppression.

Do you think just confining them to a cell and yelling at them would ever get them to talk?

Do you think that terrorists will tell us the truth?

Just curious where you stand - Hypothetically, if you you knew that a terrorist had information that could prevent an attack that would kill 1 civilian and you knew that if you waterboarded the terrorist numerous times he would give the information, would you still be against doing it?

without a doubt, but how does one make contingencies for surrender?

If Geneva doesn't apply anywhere else, it shouldn't here. Make it ok to surrender, but if I see you kill the guy standing next to me, look at me, put your gun down and smile...your head is coming clean off.

Well if we cannnot interrogate them to extract info, just let them all go. If there is no purpose in detaining them, release them all. I'd rather our soldiers be able to kill them on the battlefield than deal with "can't we all get along" in a jail cell. And applying crinimal law and procedure to a battlefield will be the demise of our nation.

At a time when al-Qaida is plotting to wipe out America with nuclear weapons, the president has paralyzed our first line of defense.

“The lesson officers are learning is when you are asked to do anything that entails risk — whether it has to do with the reputation of the agency, the risk of personal failure, or the possibility of criminal liability because people will revisit all the assurances they gave you up front — the lesson is, Don’t take those risks to protect America,” says a former CIA officer who was involved in the interrogations. “Find a way not to do it, or you’ll be sorry.”

“After Sept. 11, the general outcry was, ‘Why don’t we have better overseas capabilities?’” says Porter Goss, who was briefed on the interrogation methods in Congress and later headed the CIA. “I fear that in the years to come, this refrain will be heard again . . . It is certainly not trust that is fostered when intelligence officers are told one day ‘I have your back,’ only to learn a day later that a knife is being held to it.”

This whole whining about torture needs to end. Americans only argument is morality and that never gets us very far. So when the UN (or select a country that has taken American prisoners) rails against us about our techniques we should remind them of their past treatment of our military and civilians and invite a conversation on which they would prefer, whats going on at Gitmo or what they did to us.

If your only argument is we are a beacon of morality to the rest of the world I invite you to join the US military in the next war and see what that will get you if you get captured. I assure you that being stuck in a box with a caterpillar will seem quite easy after your first day.

You're forgetting that an American handling the Qur'an is torturous behavior... not to mention the fact that we're not going head over heels to provide more comfortable praying mats.

In the case of Muslims, my idea that was submitted is to announce at the UN a new deal for the Muslim world. For every major attack like 9/11 on our soil we will destroy something valuable to them. For our own sakes I believe we should start with Medina, next would be the black space rock in Mecca and finally the Dome of the Rock. Degrees we start at will depend on the type of attack, obviously we can add other targets like the blue mosque or maybe napalm to their annual pilgrimage.

Either they start policing their own or we will destroy that which they draw faith from.
