Way Too Early to Tell: Oklahoma vs. Tennessee

Go thumb through the Oregon thread of last year; I'd say that "fan" is probably accurate. You can hype this game up all you want; we are outmatched and if we win it'll be because Jones cooked up the perfect game plan, found a 4 leaf clover, and stoops saw 15 black cats in a single day.

OU was outmatched against Alabama. Arizona was outmatched against Oregon. Utah was outmatched against Stanford.

If we beat OU luck will have nothing to do with it. It would be just like the OU/Bama game, the better team won that day. Believe in luck all you want.

Really, UT wins in Norma? Are we play Oklahoma South Tech?
Wow.. Fan truly is short for Fanatic. There is a price to pay for Kiffen and Do-less. Time to grin and bear it, boys. This ones gonna hurt.

And people like you are the reason there's a "fire so and so coach" thread after every loss. Expecting to win every game when we know what kind of team we have and what they have. Put your orange kool aid down

i like ur moxie but im not putting my orange kool aid or orange colored glasses down at all no shame in my colors

This is the kind of fan our program produces these days. It's sickening.

Because he brought a little realism?

You can still want the Vols to win and yet be smart enough to realize that Oklahoma is ranked very highly in the preseason polls and will likely beat us by several scores.

The whole "true fan" thing is such a tired act.

Agreed, I just can't stand people who become championship team instant fans.

Way Too Early to Tell: Oklahoma vs. Tennessee Volunteers

This article was posted on the Oklahoma Fansided site and gives their prediction for the game. It gives these scenarios, which applies to them:

Best case: Oklahoma gets an early test, but overpowers an inferior Tennessee team

Worst case: Tennessee avenges the SEC, and stymies Oklahoma’s offensive attack

He goes on to say that OU will win by 18. What is your take on this article? What are your predictions for the game?

Know this game was scheduled many years ago, but it falls into a very bad period for UT, Vols did not need this game in a rebuilding year, but again, it was scheduled years in advance. Likely not as bad as the Oregon game but this probably will not be competitive

I like this game. UT has much more to gain, even if it is a close loss, than the Sooners do with a win. I realize that to some the only thing that matters is a win. Of course a win would be monumental at this point for the Vols but to be realistic, it's not likely. To be competitive for 4 quarters against a very solid Sooner squad would make the 2015 game a Gameday choice in K-town. I like this scheduling.

The Oregon gameday thread should be required reading. This place was convinced by kickoff that UT would win handily because of our speed and we played in the SEC. :eek:lol:

I disagree. I think you're mistaking some of the optimism of game day (which wasn't much imo) "with [some fans] being convinced we'd win handily," more that we could win or might pull an upset, tho' some did believe in an upset as they were hyped. Also, I don't recall any fans truly believing we'd win handily. "We gon' whoop dey azz" is a fairly common saying around here that is rather meaningless and often sarcastic. If anything, I think some fans believed we could hang but I recall very few, if any, saying we'd win handily and none touting the "SEC means we rox Oregun" line.

Heaven forbid a few fans got optimistic/hyped on game day and/or thought we might have a chance to win.

I know it's popular/fashionable to call fellow fans delusional, and some certainly are, but it's a cheap shot no different from the many other cheap shots we take at one another because we have no one else to really pick on and because some of us like to fight and/or be right online.

We really gotta stop eating our own.

I cain't wait until we are not classified as "bottom dwellers". I win at OU would quickly change that.

I agree. Although I think we're more entrenched in being 'meh' or mediocre than anything else these past few years. It's just that our fall was from such great heights that it creates the perception is "zomg! Tennessee is awful." Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy at ALL with where we are and the emotional side of me says "damn we're terrible" and we are historically speaking but rationally speaking it's more that we're not playing like Tennessee should and we're downright terrible given our history, our resources, and other factors.

I'm not an optimist by nature, never bought in to Kiffin or Dooley, but I do feel something special is happening on the Hill and we'll be back soon. Could be wrong but that's how I feel about it.

Decent article, although people who write these things.. even if it is for the other team, really should scout the other team a little bit more.

Our offense will get rolling.. I do not care if whatever QB we put on the field can't complete a single forward pass, we will use screens and handoffs, reverses whatever we need to do to get it in the hands of our WR and RB's.. and they will get us points.. one way or another. We have too much talent on offense to only score 10 points against a less then stellar Ok defense.. They have a good pass rush, but their secondary is suspect. So IMO it is really going to boil down to if our OL can perform or not, which is yet to be seen, we have the talent there..can our coaches get them ready in time for OK? If they can it will be one of the best coaching jobs performed at UT since CPF was on the hill. JMHO FWIW

I think we can compete with overrated okie!
It is the perfect setup an underrated "mostly new" squad and a mediocre team with huge accolades based on overrated program history and one win over a bunch of pro players that didn't want to get hurt before draft day!
Go Vols!

The Vols should never back down from a fight no matter what

Tell that to Hamilton and UNC.

Now, for the OU game, I'm looking for us to repeat a Miracle at South Bend event. We got fast WRs. We got big strong WRs. We got pound and ground RBs. We got experienced scatbacks. We got the Dobb Goblin. If the coaching is what it should be, we will boom the Sooners.
Or boom 'Norma' as one poster called the place.

That's why they play the game...glad it's not predetermined in an article or forum. I know it's been awhile but Tennessee has a history of upsets and quieting the naysayers. "Sooner" than later would be good and i remain optimistic...Rise to the top...GO VOLS!!!

On paper the Sooners should win, but that's why they play the game.. At some point Butch has to have that attention getting game to show the nation we're turning the corner. This is a tough spot to do it. I would have tried to reschedule this series for a few years down the road. We're not where they're at right now.

score will be close to Oregon game last year. young team will be over whelmed by the environment. Oklahoma will be able to name the score like Oregon did.

Just saw today where Oklahoma is ranked #1 in Sporting News preseason poll. Call me whatever but I would have rather us bought this game out and paid for a win against an FCS.
Right........and rise to a challenge that doesn't exist? Every week during college football season there's an upset, and if anybody's set up for one it's UT. OU is ranked #1 by SN because they upset a still shell-shocked bammer. Watch out for the Vols to storm into Norman seriously prepared and outhitting the Sooners sooner than they hit UT.

Hopefully they won't peel off a 59-0 run in 2.5 quarters like Oregon did. Surely to all that is holy that won't happen again.....
