Web Censorship and Political Bias

Reminds me of that fat body who waltzed into a Costco last week bloviating about he 'woke up in a free country' just to have his membership yanked instantly. The irony of James Woods asking the government to censor speach in order to protect the first ammendment is ****** delicious.
It’s straight out of a South Park episode.

James Woods is just plain dumb. The problem is very basic. The 1st Amendment does not apply to censorship from private companies. A private company is allowed to censor it's users. A private company is allowed to limit membership and exclude whomever they want. A private company is allowed to dictate their own terms of service. Freak wasn't in violation of the 1st Amendment when he banned tumscalcium from being a member of this site. Remember him? Yeah, he got the boot and it was perfectly legal.

When did I miss that? What happened?

Just like the birth certificate he touted for years? No, him saying it does not mean there is evidence behind it. I'm betting on the opposite actually since it was looked into a long time ago

The widower asked Trump to stop the conspiracy theory talk. He likely has more info than Trump

They worked for all different private companies. You're just hung up on Twitter because the potus says they need to be regulated. Sad that some believe that is the case
I'm actually glad they fact checked him. Now they have to do Schiff, Nadler, Pelosi etc.😉

Sorry, but if they stand behind a fact checker they are now a publisher. Meanwhile, I hope he flips to Parlor. Twitter losing 80+M would destroy them.

"For years to come, there are many people on the right, in the media & voters at large that are gonna be having to explain & justify how they fell into this trap of supporting Trump, because this is not gonna end well."
“I mean, this is unreal. Again, this guy is a con artist. He’s always making things up. No one holds him accountable for it."

Who checks Twitter's POTUS fact-checker? Biased head of Twitter's 'Site Integrity' has previously called the President 'a racist tangerine', the administration 'Nazis' and compared Kellyanne to Joseph Goebbels

The head of Twitter's fact-checking team has previously tweeted that the Trump administration are Nazis, compared adviser Kellyanne Conway to Joseph Goebbels and said fly over states are racist.

Yoel Roth, whose official title at Twitter is head of Site Integrity, faced backlash on Wednesday after his history of anti-Trump tweets emerged less than 24 hours after the social media giant put a fact-checking warning on two of the president's tweets.

Twitter prompted readers to check the facts in Trump's tweets after the president on Tuesday suggested that California's mail-in balloting initiative would lead to substantial voter fraud in the November general election.

The social media giant said Trump's claims about mail-in ballots being 'substantially fraudulent' were found to unsubstantiated by fact-checkers at CNN, the Washington Post and other media outlets.

Prior tweets from Yoel Roth, whose official title at Twitter is head of Site Integrity, emerged after the social media giant put a fact-checking warning on Trump's posts for the first time on Tuesday

It is the first time Twitter has taken such action against Trump with the company previously resisting calls to censure the president.

Following the move, previous tweets from Roth - who is in charge of the team that investigates misinformation at Twitter - resurfaced, including one in which he suggest the Trump administration were Nazis.

In a January 2017 tweet, Roth referred to the Trump administration as 'actual Nazis in the White House' and tweeted in November 2016 that fly over states were racist.

He also compared Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway to Nazi Joseph Goebbels saying: ''Today on Meet The Press, we're speaking with Joseph Goebbels about the first 100 days...' - What I hear whenever Kellyanne is on a news show.'

By that logic, Trump's tweets about Scarborough should subject Trump to personal liability.

I think Trump and the GOP need to really think through the consequences of their lashing out about this. Be careful what you wish for.

Report: Local News Stations Run Segments Scripted and Produced by Amazon

According to a recent report, local news stations across the United States have run news segments scripted and produced by e-commerce giant Amazon. Unsurprisingly, the segments were overly positive about Jeff Bezos’ company and its employment practices.

Vice News reports that local news stations across the United States recently aired a segment that was produced and scripted by e-commerce giant Amazon praising the company’s role in delivering essential groceries and cleaning products during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, as well as highlighting that the company is “keeping its employees safe and healthy.”

Vice reports that at least eleven local TV stations aired the segment which was introduced with a script written by Amazon and recited word for word by news anchors. The segments praise Amazon and its efforts during the pandemic despite reports that the firm is struggling to provide its workers with protective equipment, support the sellers on its platform, and cutting coronavirus pay increases to factory workers.

The anchors in the segments introduce the script and then cut to an Amazon-produced exclusive look “inside” an Amazon fulfillment center which is narrated by Amazon spokesperson Todd Walker, who states:

ESPN Chooses Trump Critic Megan Rapinoe to Host ESPYs

ESPN has outspoken Trump critic and soccer star Megan Rapinoe, as the host of its 2020 ESPYs award. This, despite the network’s recent efforts to limit the influence of politics in its sports coverage.

ESPN announced that the virulently anti-Trump U.S. Women’s soccer star would be one of a trio of hosts for this year’s awards show. Rapinoe will join Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and WNBA champ Sue Bird — who cohabitates with Rapinoe — as hosts for the June 21 broadcast.

11 Democrats Who Lied, on Twitter, About ‘Fine People’ in Charlottesville

Twitter applied a fact check to President Donald Trump on Tuesday because he claimed that voter fraud was more likely under the Democrats’ proposed nationwide vote-by-mail system — something even Democrats once believed.

Yet Twitter does not apply the same standard to inaccurate or speculative statements by Democrats. Case in point: the “very fine people” hoax, claiming Trump praised neo-Nazis who rioted in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017.

As Breitbart News has demonstrated extensively, Trump never praised the neo-Nazis, but in fact said they should be “condemned totally”

Yet Democrats have repeated the “Charlottesville hoax,” over and over — long after CNN’s Jake Tapper himself admitted that it was not true: “[H]e’s not saying that the neo-Nazis and white supremacists are very fine people.”

YouTube Censors Criticism of China

Site automatically deletes terms used by regime critics

YouTube is deleting comments that contain two terms Chinese dissidents use to criticize the government, raising concerns about the tech industry's willingness to censor content to gain favor with the communist regime.

Comments on YouTube videos containing the terms 共匪 (Gòngfěi), meaning "communist bandit," and 五毛党 (wǔmáodǎng), meaning "fifty-cent party," are automatically deleted from the site shortly after they are posted. The latter is a derogatory term referring to Chinese internet censors who are allegedly paid 50 cents for every internet post that they erase.

The executives at Twitter don't have to explain anything. They have the right, as a private company, to censor any member that they want for any reason that they want, and also to exclude membership as they want. Twitter has the right to set forth their own terms of service and to enforce those terms among their users as they see fit. Don't you Trump supporters/apologists understand this? Trump is advocating in favor of a profound government overreach and intrusion here. Republicans are normally against more government regulation, intrusion and overreach into the private sector, but when it comes to Donald Trump, Republicans seem to be compromising their core values and principles. This is not a violation of Trump's 1st Amendment rights. The 1st Amendment only applies to censorship or the impediment of free speech on the part of the government. Twitter is NOT the government. Twitter is a private company. This is crazy.

For example:
Twitter can have double standards if they want to. Twitter can be politically partisan if they want to. Twitter can be pro-Democrat and anti-Republican if they want to be. Twitter is not a government entity. They are a private company. They are allowed to set forth their own terms of service and they are allowed to enforce those terms as they see fit. Censorship from Twitter is not a violation of anyone's right to free speech. The 1st Amendment only applies to censorship from the government. Trump is advocating for a profound government overreach and intrusion into the private sector. This is an abuse of power and it demonstrates an ignorance of the United States Constitution. I thought Republicans were against government regulation and intrusion? The conservatives/Republicans/Trump supporters on this forum should have the sense to see for themselves that Trump is compromising the core values and principles of your party. This is insane.

I agree with you on Twitter as a general statement , but Google has received massive government tax breaks which should prohibit any censorship . As far as I am concerned they can GTH. However, one should not be forced to pay for a service that they do not want as well, ie subsidies of cable programming that one does not want.

Google is a different story, but Trump has been threatening Twitter with regulation and he has even said that he might shut them down, which is absolutely an abuse of power. There is so much ignorance in those Trump tweets. Trump doesn't understand the 1st Amendment for one thing, and for someone who has been a big proponent of de-regulation up until now, he is also compromising a core principle of the Republican Party, which has always been: smaller government, less regulation and less intrusion into the private sector.

It is all hyperbolic bluster that brings attention to the matter. If anything it will just prompt his supporters to leave Twitter which will affect their bottom line. Twitter received tax breaks at one time and I would think that would prohibit censorship at the time. Getting tax breaks and choosing political sides should be forbidden. I never understood why a celebrity or business would espouse their political views and alienate half their customer base. I always thought Tiger did it correctly.
