Week 8 AP Poll (10/13/2024) - Vols #11

Penalties last night is what stopped momentum. Nico has to get better at seeing the field as well and he and the receivers need to get back in a rhythm - they are not at this time.

They seem to have moved away to those quick slats and side throws that a lot of you do not like but have been what other teams do to move the ball.

The offense also seems to be crisper when they go fast, yet when that happens, you start to see players on the ground to slow the pace down.
Also, Troy Fleming pointed out Heard and Campbell, esp Heard, can’t go full speed. They are not in (Heup’s) football shape so Mays and Nico must wait until those teo get lined up.

I saw it last when we tried to going faster last nt and Heard couldn’t keep up.

Look I ultimately don’t care but this poll is a perfect example of why I don’t care that much about it….like in theory I have no issue with us dropping, but our mirror right now is Bama and they didn’t drop a single spot 💀 they loss to Vandy and struggled with a bad team at home, we loss to Arkansas and struggled with a bad team at home, so what’s the difference ? Why does one drop but the other doesn’t? Brand. Bias.

Season is over? So like with a loss, this is the last game of the year?
For some yea. I’d say that’s fair. We don’t make it into the playoffs with a L to Bama. Bowl games are garbage, even meaning less in the playoff era. The team will know it to whether people want to see it that way or not. I will still watch, but there will be no pressure to win left. Will take my blood pressure to a safer level knowing another loss is just a loss. Not something that is detrimental to the seasons goals. Make no mistake with the new playoff era this will look much more like nfl seasons. If playoff hopes are done, some players likely will see less time to alleviate injury. Some players will begin to sit even earlier in the season if they are solidified to early draft status. The things we already saw happening with bowl games will be magnified. I don’t like it, but it is what it is.

Dropping Tennessee and keeping Alabama flat at #7 is comical. The Vols would absolutely wax Iowa State and Clemson.
Are you watching the same Tennessee team that everyone else is? To "wax" someone you have to be able to score alot of points. We aren't doing that right now. Someone needs to figure out why our OL has taken a step backward in blocking, why Nico has forgotten how to throw an accurate pass and why our play calling is absolute trash right now.

People shouldn’t worry about this ranking. If we don’t end up being 3rd or 4th in SEC standings then we should worry. This is the real reason we are dropping and other teams are rising. It’s hard to justify the 6th best SEC in the playoffs right now. The 4th best seems like the line

Look, the Vols were bound to get some prime time telecasts as they were thought to have one of the most dynamic offenses in the country. Well they have been exposed in prime time and have no offensive tackles apparently and are like watching paint dry on offense. They are not a Top Ten team for sure but have the schedule to rebound if the offense can regain some efficiency. Without Tim Banks and Rodney Garner’s defense, the Vols would be at the bottom of the SEC.
But we do have defense, and Nico is going to keep getting better. We are 5-1, and there is no game we don’t have at least a shot at winning just like their isn’t a opponent we can relax and take for granted. People want perfection but 98 percent of time your not going to get it. Texas looked sloppy against Miss St. Bama nearly got beat by South Carolina. Nearly every team has a weakness or some inconsistencies. The week to week grind who can improve and find ways to win are the survivors. Ugly wins happen in football often, in moments of it sometimes teams hit on beautiful plays and rhythm but it isn’t as easy as everyone thinks it is. Every game is big. I feel like the light is going to come on for Nico soon, I think last night gave him confidence. I liked how he started running when it was there in the second half. He just barely missed on 2 long throws. GBO

AP is basically trying to take us out of playoff range even when we win. Ridiculous.

We win and drop 3. Ohio St loses and drops two. LMAO.
I've said from Day 1 that OSU was overrated & not impressed with the Ducks either. Play a team in the SEC and see what happens--pick one.

Seems fair. I definitely wouldn’t bet on us to beat anyone ranked ahead of us.
UT can beat any team in the country, matter of matchups and which team’s players execute plays, the talent is there. No need for negative waves at this stage, lot of FB still to be played. Have a little faith baby as Oddball once said.

We will after next weekend! Or will they decide Bama is suddenly trash then! GBO
Bama has one more probable loss against LSU and another possible upset when they play Auburn. There is a chance Bama might not make the playoffs this year. There is also a good chance that Georgia loses to Texas, which would knock them out of playoff eligibility because of the loss to Bama.

If the Vols pulls a minor upset and beats Bama this week, I can still see a likely scenario where TN won't make the playoffs, unless they win out. And even if TN wins out, it might come down to the same eye test that kept Florida State out of the playoffs last year.

Polls are irrelevant at this point of the game.
Just opinions, and many differ.
Let it play out and see who is standing week 12.

I don’t know. I’m as realistic as anyone and I’m not buying it. Penn is always an overrated joke. ISU? Yeah right. Clemson? Bama staying put? How is their win better than ours?
Bama beat Georgia. Tennessee beat.... No one ranked. Being delusional doesn't help your point. If Tennessee wins this weekend, it corrects. If not, you can still talk about 2 loss Tennessee being better than all 18 teams in front of them.

“Can beat” and “I would bet” are very different things. Gun to my head I’m picking anyone ranked above us at this juncture.

I'm not sure that all the SEC teams were over rated to begin with, so much as all the top teams have kind of already beat each other up already.
Now the Top 5 or 10 are flooded with B1G teams, but that conference schedule is heating up and those teams will start canibalizing each other as well.
Then Clemson still has to play Miami.

With the conference realignment and transfer portal the last couple of years, this year is definitely one that is playing out the parity.
The teams. or teams, left at the end are likely the ones that benefit from the lucky draw on the schedule, such as Texas and pretty much anyone in the ACC.

If Vols get through the conference with 1 loss I dont believe they are getting left out. I also dont see how the committee could justify keeping a 1 loss Tenn out.

If Tennessee wins out they are in, no doubt about it. If we lose 1 more it’s 50-50. GBO
