We'll Find Out Next Year How Much Real Support The Basketball Program Has.

I really felt bad that Ron Slay had to be sent out that way. It was about as electric as a church league game.

Hey, easy now, Elgrace Wilborn tied the all-time UT record for blocked shots in a game. I was there. I've got the t-shirt. Oh, wait... we lost.

I actually wish he'd post more. I have no idea why you think he's glued here, he isn't around as near as much as many of us would like.

Add another to the posse! I hear there is a 15% discount on your first misdemeanor defense if you are a registered volnation hatasite.

I'm assuming it means hat has played and coached at the d1 level, possibly even pro, so he knows more than everyone else.

This thread was supposed to not have name calling (as if he ever follows that rule) so I will just ask

When did hat play or coach d1? I believe the answer is never. Mark Pancratz has more experience coaching at a high level.

He also called Lon Kruger a friend and claims people in the AD listen to him. I love the Martin hire but hat said he couldn't get his friend Lon to interview here bc the money was not good enough? Bull.

This is the one thing I'll miss about the Pearlophiles. Each time I thought their stupidity had reached an apex, one of them would come along and raise the bar. I hope they do the same for the Jerkwater State boards when their deity gets back into coaching at the level he deserves.

"UNLV names four head coaching finalists

Naturally, the Wynn placed odds on who would become the next UNLV coach after Lon Kruger left for Oklahoma. Coaches from Bruce Pearl to Shaka Smart to Jerry Tarkanian were listed as possibilities, with Tark's return at 25,000 to 1. "

Not saying it would happen, but there is a lot of fan support for Pearl on their boards.
Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Speaking of bandwagon fans, what do you guys think about people that jump on a team's bandwagon when they are elite or for whatever reason and then stick with them through thick and then from then on? Personally, I hate when a person is a huge fan of a team that they have no connection to whatsoever.

You mean like all the people in Knoxville who you never knew to be (Rain)BoSox fans until after they broke the curse or en route to breaking it? I have noticed I see a significantly less # of Redsox apparel the past year or so around town. lol

I was always a huge NCAA football fan for as long as I can remember. My favorite memories as a small child were watching the UT games with my Dad and/or going to the games with my Grandpa. I always hated leaving early to beat traffic and listen to the last couple minutes on the ride home... Tangent over...

I followed the NFL, but really only watched for former UT players and enjoyed the level of play until the Jaguars selected my favorite Vol of all time James "Little Man" Stewart. I have followed them ever since even though nearly every year they draft a friggin gator! Argh!!! Then, with the Titan's moving to TN... I can't stand them and I hate disliking the in-state team, but IMO they are still the Oilers. Why couldn't Houston have kept their team and we could've got the expansion team instead a division rival of my favorite team?!?

I find the resentment against Pearl from the OP to be entirely odd. In one breath he/she manages to take cheap jabs and focus on all the negative, but still praises the mediocrity of UT basketball pre-Pearl.

Only thing I can gather is that Pearl looks better with his shirt off and painted? (Cheap jab delivered, try to swallow your own pill). I apologize on behalf of Bruce for the fans responding with boosted attendance at games, which prompted athletics officials to upgrade the TBA and build a new basketball practice facility.

"I hope he finds a place that's right for him, because he'll keep coaching," Summitt said. "We'll always be friends. I've really, really enjoyed being around Bruce. Obviously if he can paint his chest and I can be a cheerleader it tells you we have a pretty good thing going here." - Pat Summitt.

I guess if Pat dresses up as a cheerleader and embraces her school's athletics, that makes her a "clown".

Let me help you figure out why Pearl was so quickly embraced by the UT faithful, since it is so hard for you to grasp...

1) Pearl = 1st national #1 ranking in UT history
2) Pearl = second-fastest NCAA coach to reach 300 victories
3) Pearl = 231-99 overall in Div.1 (145-61 while at UT = winningest coach within that time)
4) Pearl = 3 SEC season champs within 6 seasons(SEC's winningest program over the past 6 seasons)
5) Pearl = 6 straight NCAA tourney appearances
6) Pearl = 4-0 against top 5 teams at TBA(5-2 the last 7 games vs top 5 teams)
7) Pearl = Highest season avg. attendance at TBA
8) Pearl = Contributor to the Knoxville community in a way his predecessors hadn't. He led Tennessee's annual Outlive campaign to raise money for cancer prevention programs and research and endowed a scholarship in the name of former Vol Dane Bradshaw.

What a terrible coach and overall human.

I completely agree that there was an incredible boost of followers for the UT basketball program and the majority of them are and maybe were completley oblivious to the pre-Pearl era of UT basketball. So??? It's called getting older and the younger grasping onto their culture OR the ignorant becoming educated on what is going on...

Mind blowing...

Your gripes were legitimate at 1st but now you are beating a dead horse and begging desperately to seem like the smartest guy/girl on here by saying, "I told you so".

Just drop it.

More advice from the Pearlophiles. It'll be ignored like the rest. Also, nice job creating two fictitious SEC regular season championships to prop up your hero. I see his followers are every bit as honest as he was.

I still feel the whole "Pearlophiles" stuff is nonsense. The people who brought the attendance to 20,000 were simply fans who wanted to see the excitement of winning. It's the same as any winning program or team, people want to see them. No one gave a crap about watching Pearl coach. Strictly speaking, "real fans", as defined as people who support the program through thick and thin, are a small number.

We win, and those "Pearlophiles" will be back in Thompson-Boling. To think that there are a group of people following Pearl around job to job is asinine.

Also, Pearl was nowhere near the winningest coach in college basketball over the last six years.

Yes, Pearl was great for us over the past 6 years. He also set our program back 3 years by telling an idiotic lie then going all "protector of integrity" on us.

2006–2007 Tennessee 24–11 10–6 2nd (East) NCAA Sweet Sixteen

Tennessee won the SEC regular season title exactly once in that six years. Not sure where the two titles you dreamed up are coming from, but I expect Pearl supporters to live in La La Land.

3 SEC regular titles. that = 3 SEC championships. However you want to label them.

Pearl = ???.

Yawns.

Your advice was to let it go. I think I'm doing a fine job of disregarding it. Now, get back to creating championships for Bruce Pearl. I'm hoping you can conjure up an SEC Tournament title or a Regional championship.
