The only football coach I'm sure they reached out to was Strong......tons of smoke around other candidates but not sure who was real and who was just media creation.

I feel very blessed we lucked into Butch though.

He can recruit, jury is out on his coaching, but I'm hopeful.

That's why the 2 remind me a lot of each other, neither was the #1 guy on our board, both were from lower level schools, and both brought a lot of energy.

Actually it's 45th lol I think that's too low just like top 20 is way too high.

Possibly...will we make it? Probably not but either way it's a d&mn shame we are discussing bubble scenarios with this team.

Butch and Bruce were both number one on my board.....well out of realistic candidates any way

It depends on who you wanna go by. There's a reputable service that has them top 20, so me saying they're top 20 is as accurate as you saying they're not, pick your poison.

I agree on this, although at this point in the season that talk is premature. I'm still hopeful they will go on a run and not make is sweat things out.

Point was, he was hardly some "hot name". He was not even as "hot" of a name as Butch Jones, that's not an insult, but it's honest.

Pretty much this. I'm not saying some weren't happy, but there wasn't some out pour of celebration when we got Pearl. It was mostly wait and see.

Wes Rucker is looking for hits. The Tennessee AD and other writers laugh at the possibility of Pearl ever returning to UT as a coach. I'm sure even Pearl laughs at the ideal but loves the attention. I'm not knocking Pearl because someone is going to scoop him up this summer but I doubt it's any school in the SEC, especially Tennessee. Look at the route Tim Floyd took. He was cleared of any wrong doings and still works in El Paso. Bruce no doubt deserves another chance at coaching though.

I'm not the least bit scared of the NCAA because I know there's no way in hell Hart is dumb enough to rehire him. Just like no other AD has rehired a coach with a show-cause penalty, and only one coach in NCAA history has ever landed another head job anywhere; at mighty Morgan State. But hey, you continue to bury your head in your rear end though, and ignore what history has taught us.

That's not entirely accurate.....first off the only coach that has ever gotten a show cause that any one would consider hiring besides pearl is Sampson so there is not much proof there.
secondly an assistant coach was hired and kept on staff and promoted to head coach at kent state with a show cause.

Rob Senderhoff wasn't a head coach to begin with. He was more or less guilty by association under the watch of Kelvin Sampson, and issued a show-cause.

True which is why I said assistant but was found guilty of making most of the excessive calls his. It wasn't bc of his association with Sampson. Still the point remains, they hired a coach with a show cause penalty.

Not a real good example as I was specifically talking about head coaches who had received show-causes. Only one head coach, Todd Bozeman, has received a show-cause penalty and been hired as a head coach again at another school.

And Bozeman has no where near the coaching ability of Sampson or Pearl. These two are the only ones who would be receiving interest if you took all the show cause penalties away. Sampson may stay pro, but there will be interest. Pearl will have interest too. I just hope we don't let him get away to some other school.
