Weve sucked at home for a while

Anyway, back to our lack of dominance at Neyland... I was at UT from 2001-2005. In those five years, the only two big home wins I can recall are LSU in '01 and Florida in '04. I guess the 6 overtimes against Arkansas was a pretty exciting game. But honestly, I didn't like hanging around til midnight to see us barely scrape by the freaking Razorbacks. So for me, it was five seasons, with 2 great games in that span. I don't know, I'm sure most students at UT got to see a lot of memorable wins, but those are about it for me. Most of the rest I've had to watch on TV. Fulmer should like have to give some of us a partial refund on our student activity fee or something.

back on topic....

as far as Neyland being intimdating, and losing it's mojo etc....here's an idea...how 'bout the home team playing worth a flip?

i think we'd all find if the folks on the feild gave us something to cheer about once in a while, well, we'd cheer once in a while...

don't get me wrong, we as fans should be in to it and i think have a lot to do with the "intimidation factor" for opposing players, it still doesn't have one thing to do with the execution of the play on the feild. (except of course when it's too loud for the opposing offense to hear)

I want to know why we've played better on the road than at home, lately.

Is that really true though? We've lost 12 games the past 3 years. 3 of them were at neutral sites, and off the top of my head I think 5 were at home and 4 were on the road. We've definitely had some letdowns at home, but we also play a lot more games at home.

You're right, we've played more home games than road games, but some of the road victories have been more impressive than some of the home victories

We beat Florida and Miami on the road in 03, Georgia in 04, and LSU last year.

Look , that vinegar based sewage they serve in North Carolina will never hold a candle to the mustard based delicacy of the Midlands of South Carolina.

p.s. I suggest that you take out a small loan before you go to Maurice's. You go in, order a basket (sandwich, fries and cole slaw) and the cashier with the funny hat says, "That'll be $10! Would you like a drink with that?!" It's good stuff, but it's too expensive. I guess Maurice's political views got him in trouble so he's taking it out on the customers.

(He lost his contract to sell his bbq sauce in the local grocery stores when he publicly expressed his views on slavery. Bad idea).

and, just fyi...i'm not big on NC bbq either....i'm originally from Memphis....neither sc or nc hold a candle to the bbq on the delta.....(but which is why i was so suprised about the mustard based stuff.....oh well....)

Dude, I just think the bands are a great part of college football. I would listen to Rocky Top during every timeout, all day long.

I hate that song.

To what I'm sure will be the shock of many, I am going to defend TCHFCATUTK on this issue. I'll take the disasterous 2005 season out of the equation. With that said, the losses at home have been to very good teams. Removing '05 from the discussion, what reallly bad teams has TCHFCATUTK lost to at home?

That's true. I'm just disappointed I never get to see them BEAT a good team at home.

this is weird...but i'm going to give you the response that i would think you would give to a question like this:

No one cares who you lose to, you get no points for losing to a good team vs. a bad team....and no one cares about beating UAB or Memphis, we only care about those games should we lose them. the question should be how many good teams has TCHFCAUTK beaten at home lately?
NONE.

I'm sure it's not exactly how you would phrase it...but you get the idea! :biggrin2:

I was simply pointing out the fact that the losses haven't been to teams that would lead me to think there's any real home vs road difference. We aren't beating good teams with consistency anywhere.

oh i know...i just thought it was interesting that you were giving credit for having "quality losses". but being as big a bball guru as you are, i could see where that line of thought could come in to play....no biggie.

and from a consistency stand point i would agree, but we have had more success on the road of late than we have had at home....the last big home win, and really the only big home win we've had is the 03 UF game. before that, it was what, the 01 LSU game?

In contrast, on the road, we have beaten LSU last year, Miami in 03, UGA in 04...all games i pegged as losses before the game...

There's alot to be said for the power of the "us against the world" mentality and lack of distractions that the road affords. Still I think it likely comes down to the character of each individual season's team. Each one seems so very different. One of the things I enjoy about the college game.

The '03 Miami team wasn't anything special. It's always nice to win at the Orange Bowl, but that wasn't one of the better 'Cane squads. The only one of those three that shocked me at the time it happened was the '04 Georgia game. I was at the OU-Texas game in Dallas and got back to the hotel in time to watch the second half. I thought UT had no chance that day. In hindsight, the LSU game is a stunner. At the time, I just considered it a great comeback win.

correction:

here is what i consider big home and road wins...my info above, well, is wrong.... :banghead:
in 01: LSU @ home, Bama on the road and UF on the road, and ND on the road......all big wins....key loss to UGA at home.
in 02: losses to UF @ home, UGA on the road, Bama @ home, Miami @ home
in 03: @ UF, @ Miami and @ Bama...all big wins...key loss to UGA at home and @ Auburn
in 04: UF @ home, UGA on the road, Bama @ home...all big wins...key losses to Auburn @ home and ND @ home...
in 05: @ LSU big win. Key losses to Bama on the road, UF @ home and UGA @ home.

JMO...not sure where all those are ranked, but as to rivals we regularly compare ourselves to...those are the big games to me....
