here is what i consider big home and road wins...my info above, well, is wrong.... :banghead:
in 01: LSU @ home, Bama on the road and UF on the road, and ND on the road......all big wins....key loss to UGA at home.
in 02: losses to UF @ home, UGA on the road, Bama @ home, Miami @ home
in 03: @ UF, @ Miami and @ Bama...all big wins...key loss to UGA at home and @ Auburn
in 04: UF @ home, UGA on the road, Bama @ home...all big wins...key losses to Auburn @ home and ND @ home...
in 05: @ LSU big win. Key losses to Bama on the road, UF @ home and UGA @ home.
JMO...not sure where all those are ranked, but as to rivals we regularly compare ourselves to...those are the big games to me....
The '01 win over Notre Dame was big in name only. They were terrible.

The '03 Miami team wasn't anything special. It's always nice to win at the Orange Bowl, but that wasn't one of the better 'Cane squads. The only one of those three that shocked me at the time it happened was the '04 Georgia game. I was at the OU-Texas game in Dallas and got back to the hotel in time to watch the second half. I thought UT had no chance that day. In hindsight, the LSU game is a stunner. At the time, I just considered it a great comeback win.
me too...we had no business winning that LSU game based on the performance in the 1st half.

and i would agree about the Miami game...but considering what they did to us in Knoxville the year before, i really didn't think we had a shot at that game...and any time you can get a W against Miami, or ND for that matter, it always feels good, no matter what. On name value alone, it still means something.

kind of how Clemson and MD must have felt after throttling us in those peach bowls....i wouldn't say that either of those teams beat high caliber TN teams...but they were big none the less to those two schools because of the name value of beating TN in a bowl game....

Most of that big win/loss home/road thing is a byproduct of scheduling vs. the confidence of the roster in question. There is not much mercy in a UT schedule verses alot of the other top teams we play, conference or open games. If we were to take a more smash'em approach to our non-conf play, we'd save more energy for those big conf. games.

In 2001, Alabama finished 6-5 and ND 5-6

yeah, i know, that's why i added the thing about the rivals we regularly compare ourselves to....

bad or not, they were still both big games....at least in the fans eyes...no one got any extra poll votes or BCS points by beating them, but it sure beats losing to 'em.

i disagree....i like the fact that we schedule tough non conference games. i think it keeps us in better shape as the year goes on. plus it gives us national attention, and puts the TN name in parts of the country that a lot of peopel wouldn't hear about us.

there is nothing to be gained by padding a schedule with 3-4 cream puffs.

this is weird...but i'm going to give you the response that i would think you would give to a question like this:

No one cares who you lose to, you get no points for losing to a good team vs. a bad team....and no one cares about beating UAB or Memphis, we only care about those games should we lose them. the question should be how many good teams has TCHFCAUTK beaten at home lately?
NONE.

I'm sure it's not exactly how you would phrase it...but you get the idea! :biggrin2:
If my memory serves me right, and I have a good memory when it comes to Vol football. We beat FLA the last time we played them on Rocky Top.

Dude they had won something like 36 in a row in Coral Gables!

One reason Tenn. fans aren't that rowdy is because in Moore county they can distill Jack but they can't sell it. It's a dry county.

1)They don't play in Coral Gables.
2)The guys instrumental to the majority of the streak were gone by '03. No Clinton Portis, no Vilma, no Shockey, no Dorsey, no Williams, no Morgan, no Gonzalez, no Andre Johnson, etc.

That would be relevant if Florida had been any good in '04.

Yeah, how nice for you. It's like no one that Tennessee beats is good in your eyes. Tennessee breaks a 26 game home winning streak at Miami, and The Canes weren't that great. Tennessee beats Florida and they aren't "Any good". Give me a break. One minute you are saying Phil cant beat conference opponents such as Florida, and then when he does, you poor-mouth it.

SOS from you. Same Ole.....Stuff.

relax, UF wasn't that good that year...doens't mean we still can't be happy about beating them...same with Miami....it's still Miami....and we beat them at home...it was an accomplishment....but it wasn't like we beat either of them at the top of their game.....i wouldn't say it's poor mouthing, it's just that it's the way it was.

The last head coach rankings I saw had UT, Miami, and Michigan all rated in the 30's with Carr and Coker rated slightly behind Fulmer. They arent exactly the 2 most up and coming coaches in Div 1 right now, and thats probably 2 of Fulmer's biggest wins this decade. Fulmer's record against Richt, Saban, Tubberville, speaks for itself.

1)So, Brock Berlin and Jarrett Payton were comparable to Ken Dorsey and Willis McGahee?
2)What was Florida's final record in '04?
Please find a post where I've said TCHFCATUTK can't beat Florida. He's done OK against the Gators since Spurrier left Gainesville and took the deed to His Royal Chubbiness with him.

Never mind "The Chosen One", course you can't mention him, because Tennessee shut him down.

Also, make sure not to credit the call from Fulmer that won that game by going for it on fourth down on the road in the first half. Something that had he NOT done, and lost, you'd be crying about now. I know, I know, it was ALL the defense, and Fulmer gets no credit for breaking the longest home winning streak in NCAA at the time.

Like I said, SOS.

I give him credit. However, I don't go to foolish extremes in an attempt to pump up a bloated dinosaur whose time has passed. You Fulmerites act like he beat the '87 or '01 Miami team. How did he do at home against the 'Canes team with Dorsey, McGahee, Vilma, Gonzalez, Reed, etc? I'll answer that. He got absolutely pummeled into submission. By the way, I'm still waiting for you to show me how great the '04 Florida team was.

Since Spurrier owns him, then why did he not win the 2001 game. That was the most meaningful game that either of them coached against each other. The game in September never really decides the East division because it is so early in the season. But the 2001 game was for all the marbles since it was in December. I wonder why a coach would not choose to win this game if he owns the other coach.

We have a new winner in the "Most Ridiculous Post of All Time" contest. Even a blind pig finds an acorn occasionally.

I thought we weren't gonna allow this type of personal bashing of Fulmer?

See, the funny thing is, the only legitimate thing you and those like you have on Phil is his weight, and the more of that he loses, the less you have against him.

I didn't say Florida 04 was a jaugernaut. The point is, EVERYONE Tennessee beats is less than special in your eyes, BECAUSE Tennessee beat them. To me, thats the view of a non-fan. Earlier today you said that you were at an OU-TX game when Tennessee beat Georgia. I dunno about the rest of the FANS here, but I go to, or watch Tennessee's games. I don't go to other team's games....oh wait, but you've confesed that OU is "one of" your teams. Congrats, they are supposed to be front-runners again this year, so I guess you can go watch them.
