Trash Talk is the most natural reaction when you are blindly supporting your homies.I'm fine with their trash talk. If I was a Virginia fan, now is definitely the time to enjoy the season.
But seriously, we know what an emotional roller coaster ride rebuilding can be until you find the right coach and AD and university president.
Best of luck to the Cadavaliers in their program rebuilding, and to their loyal fans, patience and good tailgating.
And remember... only 5 days left to trash talk.
The term "hillbilly" is Scottish in origin but is not derived from its dialect. In Scotland, the term "hill-folk" referred to people who preferred isolation from the greater society, and "billy" meant "comrade" or "companion". The words "hill-folk" and "Billie" were combined and applied to the Cameronians who followed the teachings of a militant Presbyterian named Richard Cameron. These Scottish Covenanters fled to the hills of southern Scotland in the late 17th century to avoid persecution of their religious beliefs. This would be like an opposing fan base calling us hillbillies and we just decided to shorten it to Billies and roll with it.
I really don't think many of us feel confident. We know we are outclassed athletically and in coaching ability. Look at "thesabre" (the better UVA message board). Most people know what's coming. Of course there will always be some irrationally optimistic people, but most of us know it will most likely get ugly.Sorry to bring up bad memories, but how some of them feel kind of reminds me how some of us were feeling before the WVU game in 2018. Confident, but for no reason whatsoever. Our team was completely outclassed and didn’t have a chance to win. That’s the situation UVA finds themselves in, going into Saturday.
Also, kind of getting annoyed with fans of programs like UVA, Vandy, Kentucky, etc saying we need to be humbled, haven’t done anything since 2007, etc yet they’ve never done anything ever.
After being on the wrong side of recovery for a long time, we can sympathize.I really don't think many of us feel confident. We know we are outclassed athletically and in coaching ability. We know we're not going to win. Just have to build on this game so that we don't have to listen to annoying JMU fans for years to come.
The format of the sabre is so....late 90s.I really don't think many of us feel confident. We know we are outclassed athletically and in coaching ability. Oh yeah. Unfortunately, don't think we have the right coach. Not ready to give up on him yet, but not impressed thus far. After being on the wrong side of recovery for a long time, we can sympathize.
It’s hard, but when you get the right coach and personnel, man does it go a long way to getting rid of those bad memories
My thought went to Saddam Hussein's boasting about what he was going to do to us, right before the shortest war probably in history. This is my personal favorite:
We are going to open up a Desert Storm sized keg of whoopass on those overconfident punk Volunteers
I say "Not so fast my friend, I think you have that backwards"
Bless their hearts, they believe, and they should, that is their team, and just like Vol Fans, we believe that our team is better than VA's. Until UT has a few successful years under the CJH, I am always a nervous wreck during the games. So, Virginia fans haven’t really talked a whole lot on our game this week, but I did manage to find a few nuggets:
-I can’t think of a program that needs to be humbled more than Tennessee. First 10+ win season since 2007 and now their sh*t don’t stink? Coach E will have his young men ready to run through a wall Sept. 2.
-I only wish wish they still had Hendon Hooker so our defense could have made him cry two times in his career.
-I’m sick of the loathing of joe Milton. I’m sick of all the writers treating us as if we are a make a wish team this season. It’s time to line up 11 on 11 and bust someone in the damn mouth.
-We are going to open up a Desert Storm sized keg of whoopass on those overconfident punk Volunteers. Our defense is going to absolutely curbstomp their offense, and the Virginia Cavaliers are going to shock the world.
-I'll cheer for the Hoos while Tennessee spanks us, and i'll cheer for the Hoos while all the other teams spank us as well. Why? Because I support the University of Virginia Football team
-This game is not a fair fight. The talent gap between these teams is significant. Yes, I know that Pitt gave Tenn a really good game last year. And yes, I know that South Carolina picked off the Vols. But let’s be honest and admit that both Pitt and USC-e are well ahead of UVA in terms of pure talent. We are a tier behind those two, who are still a tier behind Tennessee. This game has the potential to be really, really, really ugly.
-They’ve been good for ONE season and now pimp around like they are Bama.
-Tenn is the most arrogant team in the nation, I can’t wait to beat them by multiple td’s.
-I hate to break it to my fellow Cavs, but we’re going to get absolutely mauled.
-I am not looking forward to a 5 TD beat down. I don’t think the tv exposure will be good for fans, recruits or national media.
-This game against Tennessee serves little purpose on paper, but maybe the lads will extract some real value from it.
Some of these are funny. I don’t get the whole reference to arrogance on our team. Our guys seem pretty humble. Even Joe Milton’s comments about he comes to serve every day says a lot. We have good kids that should have some confidence, but I haven’t seen much cockiness. So, Virginia fans haven’t really talked a whole lot on our game this week, but I did manage to find a few nuggets:

I think they are maybe just jealous of our recent success and upward trajectory? I don’t think this team seems arrogant at all, nor the coaching staff, so that’s my only way of explaining thatSome of these are funny. I don’t get the whole reference to arrogance on our team. We had to go through three idiots before we got Huepel, it also took a deep overhaul of the Athletic Department.Oh yeah. Unfortunately, don't think we have the right coach. Not ready to give up on him yet, but not impressed thus far.
On the other hand, looks like you guys found your guy.
