If I had to choose I'm down for MTSU over BamaWhile I understand that our VOLs will open with a “Power 5” opponent (UVA), it’s certainly to me a bit disrespectful to where our team is (Top 25) where media is hawking the “odds“ of VOLS beating the Whoos. I’m waiting personally for Saturday down South and other SEC outlets question either UGA’s chances against UT Martin or Bama’s start vs MTSU.
I will certainly celebrate if either Skyhawks or Blue Raiders pull out a App State victory over those fanbases (and media) who just assume those teams can’t be beat.
Go VOLS, Beat Whoos!
51-3 Rocky Top
Will be hearing that song all game long.
37-17 Vols
I think our gameplan is going to be very conservative. Try and get into 3rd and short scenarios as much as possible. Try and establish the run game. Above all else, protect the ball and avoid turnovers that lead to easy points. Try and make their offense beat our defense.
I think that gameplan will only be moderately successful, and the offense will struggle to find consistency, ultimately making things tougher and tougher on the defense. We may stay within 10-14 for a few quarters but ultimately Tennessee will be too much.
The SEC team most like our Hoos? Vandy. Joe Milton's first & only regular-season start last season? In Nashville vs. Vandy. The score of that game? 56-0 UT. So my game score prediction for our Hoos this Saturday in Nashville vs. Tenn?
56-0, bad guys...
30-28 Hoos...
Mike Hollins scores the first TD of the season for the Hoos. Players respond and play their a**** off to get the upset!
Defense confuses Milton and forces 2 turnovers.
Meh, S. Carolina and UT are pretty even in terms of talent in my eyes. UT just had a great year from the QB position last year, which catapulted their success.
Vandy is more in-line with where we are as a program as I guess. But I thought the point of this game was to schedule against a SEC foe with decent brand/fanbase to gain some exposure, hence why UGA was scheduled in the first place. That's not Vandy
.I really don't think many of us feel confident. We know we are outclassed athletically and in coaching ability. Look at "thesabre" (the better UVA message board). Most people know what's coming. Of course there will always be some irrationally optimistic people, but most of us know it will most likely get ugly.
We know we're not going to win. Just have to build on this game so that we don't have to listen to annoying JMU fans for years to come.
I do a WOMBAS: Post Game Edition after some bigger games we play.Have we ever done one of these threads for a morning after? I'd love to see what some of these guys are saying after they receive their beatdown. I mean, it's probably along the lines of the officials hosed us or something like that but it would be nice to see a dose of humble pie being served.
So, Virginia fans haven’t really talked a whole lot on our game this week, but I did manage to find a few nuggets:
-I can’t think of a program that needs to be humbled more than Tennessee. First 10+ win season since 2007 and now their sh*t don’t stink? Coach E will have his young men ready to run through a wall Sept. 2.
-I only wish wish they still had Hendon Hooker so our defense could have made him cry two times in his career.
-I’m sick of the loathing of joe Milton. I’m sick of all the writers treating us as if we are a make a wish team this season. It’s time to line up 11 on 11 and bust someone in the damn mouth.
-We are going to open up a Desert Storm sized keg of whoopass on those overconfident punk Volunteers. Our defense is going to absolutely curbstomp their offense, and the Virginia Cavaliers are going to shock the world.
-I'll cheer for the Hoos while Tennessee spanks us, and i'll cheer for the Hoos while all the other teams spank us as well. Why? Because I support the University of Virginia Football team
-This game is not a fair fight. The talent gap between these teams is significant. Yes, I know that Pitt gave Tenn a really good game last year. And yes, I know that South Carolina picked off the Vols. But let’s be honest and admit that both Pitt and USC-e are well ahead of UVA in terms of pure talent. We are a tier behind those two, who are still a tier behind Tennessee. This game has the potential to be really, really, really ugly.
-They’ve been good for ONE season and now pimp around like they are Bama.
-Tenn is the most arrogant team in the nation, I can’t wait to beat them by multiple td’s.
-I hate to break it to my fellow Cavs, but we’re going to get absolutely mauled.
-I am not looking forward to a 5 TD beat down. I don’t think the tv exposure will be good for fans, recruits or national media.
-This game against Tennessee serves little purpose on paper, but maybe the lads will extract some real value from it.
