What South Carolina forums think of Joe Milton

My issue is when we are in a 3rd and 3-4 yards situation, don't throw a bomb 60 yards downfield. A crossing route, or a screen, get the 1st down, keep moving the chains. Splash plays are great, but the defenses we've faced seem to know what is coming so they are waiting for it. We also have some issues with the O line. Hopefully they can get them corrected and move on.

It is obvious there are posters on here that have never played a single snap of football at any level.
Most of the time our offense is stopped because we got behind the chains, or there were flags for PI or holding on the D that never got thrown. The slants and deep passes everyone likes are timing passes for the most part. If the defense interrupts that timing the qb looks bad. Not to mention the receivers didn't run the route like they did in practice. That is what CJH means when he is talking about execution. Everyone has a job, including the O line, to do. For the play to be successful everyone has to do their job and do it on time like it was practiced.
One thing is for sure, the deep ball is not falling short 99% of the time.
If you didn't know the outcome of the game and you only read the post on VolNation, one might think we lost the game. SMH GO VOLS!!

Milton likes showing his arm off too much instead of taking the easy play at times.

Turning down easy runs and easier passes every game this season like you're alluding to.

I will never understand why any coach or player would want to come to this university. We have a section of this fanbase that would like nothing better for any aspect of this team to fail, just so they have a platform to spew their bile and make themselves feel better about whatever is broken in their lives. Regardless of what some on here delude themselves about, there are eyes on our site that take note as well. Coaches ( current or potential), players, and yes even recruits. If I had a choice between two or three teams and I saw the vitriol vomited up on here, I would choose any other team. You use South Carolina's chat board to prove your point? I guarantee they, and every other SEC school, use ours against us in recruiting.
This just proves your clueless. You think this message board is different from any other teams?
You think all the others just pretend like every thing is rose’s all the time and say nothing negative?
That our coaches couldn’t use just as much negative message board material to recruit against any other school?
Get a clue!
Bama boards been in meltdown mode all year . They want prime time in to replace 7 time national champ Saban. After he won 2 games 😂😂😂.
Get real . We ain’t any better or WORSE than anyone else.

Issues ALL over the field and Milton is no exception to that. We're just not that good this year. Face it

My problem with Milton is that he won't make the 12 yd check down throw. it is either throw horizontal on the WR screen or throw 60+ and miss a wide open receiver, there is very little in between. I have yet to see him throw a 7 yd out to a WR.
The check down is usually the last progression. So that would mean that he had the time to get that far into his progresssions and I dont think the OL has given him enough time to make 4 reads, if he even can.

It’s all true. Milton is not a good passer. Pretty much all there is to it.

I think going with Milton is the only significant mistake Heupel has made as coach here and now he’s repeated the same mistake again. I don’t know if it’s arrogance? Or being stubborn?

At this point, I think we just have to ride with them because it is a complex offensive system that requires time to learn. Setting up protections and knowing where to go with the ball based on the looks the defense is giving you, etc.

But we’ve seen enough of Milton to know exactly what he is. He just can’t consistently throw accurate passes. It’s that simple. Many of us worried coming into the year this would be the case. I convinced myself that if anybody could turn him into a great quarterback it’s heupel. But we’ve seen guys like JG that have great size, learn the playbook, and are great leaders but just are unable to consistently make routine throws.

I feel like for his career Milton misses more wide-open, receivers 20 yards plus down the field then he hits. Honestly, I don’t even think it’s close. It feels like he only connects on one out of three or so. Today there were five deep shot wide open, and he missed them all. The pass to Keyton wasn’t wide open, but he put a little air under it and Keaton made a great play. He missed all the other defensive breakdown deep throws as well as at least 2 short/intermediate throws that would’ve went for touchdowns.

He’s a good kid and a good leader. I think he does a good job getting the teams in the right look most of the time. But it’s just not a good passer. I think Heupel just got so enamored with his size and arm strength that he didn’t even consider the most fundamental trait a quarterback must possess. It’s like a shooting guard in basketball that is 6’6”
and has a 40 inch vertical… but is a very poor shooter. At the end of the day… Give me the less physically capable guy that has a pure shooting stroke.
Anthony Richardson 2.0, but not as athletic overall. If only his passing accuracy was better. Ifs and buts were candy and nuts, John Majors circa 1988.

This all day long. Where would we land if there was a poll for most negative fan base in college football?

Doesn't fit the narrative and anyone that says anything in a positive light about him loved Guarantano and is an apologist in this thread apparently.

I'm far from a Milton fan, I just like irony, hence the handle LOL.

But it shouldn't be beyond the realm of comprehension that maybe Nico isn't ready and there have been a ton of mistakes by players on offense not named Milton so far this year.
I really think after last night this is probably closet to the truth. I know Ainge said in practices he viewed Nico threw a lot of interceptions. So IMO Coach didn't want to get him in too early to have him do too much and maybe stifle his progress/confidence. Because IMO if he was close to taking the job like some think or hope. He would have been in when Joe got up favoring his leg but they left Joe in to shake it off. That in my mind was very telling. IMO that didn't make sense it was about the only thing that ran through my mind the guy is not ready , their waiting for trash time. I mean Josh was a QB and I would think he would know and maybe he knows the O Line is weak and gonna be without Mays the rest of year.

Current states for the two teams below:

We are a run-oriented team. The primary passing that is used is to open up the middle for both the "over the middle" pass and the run game. I get it some of you want 'bombs' away every play. That is exciting - but if it fails, it leads to a quick 3 and out.

We need a QB that can manage the offense - Joe is doing a great job at that whether any of you folks want to admit it or not.

Saw the same thing yesterday. We have abandoned the game plan we used against Clemson.

The curve omitted in your table is each team’s competition. USC has played UNC and UGA. We have played mediocre teams so far.

We gonna skip over the opponent differences in schedule thus far?

We are, mostly, fine with the points we score. Yes, some are left on the table. It’s really a defense problem.

The curve omitted in your table is each team’s competition. USC has played UNC and UGA. We have played mediocre teams so far.

SC had 353 yards passing against NC and lost. SC had 269 yards against UGA and lost. They had 345 and 288 against Furman and Mississippi State and won. SC and MSU had the same number of scoring opportunities - MSU settled for 2 field goals which ultimately was the difference in the game.

The teams that beat them were run / pass balanced teams. The teams they lost too, were more pass oriented.

Regardless of the teams someone has played - 4 games in shows trends of the type of teams each are and what they rely on.

They have it about right. Joe could torch them throwing for four and running for two, or he could go 11 of 28 with 140 yards.

Almost everyone in the SEC knows Milton sucks except a large percentage of our delusional fanbase it seems. Yes i call them delusional because they also supported JG for YEARS.

It's not rocket science guys. Milton is a terrible downfield passer. I think it's a mental issue with him.

He thinks too much.He just needs to freakin play backyard style and run more and sling it down field more. Screw these lame flat passes.

SEC defenses are going to jump a few for pick sixes.

Yesterday, the defender jumped it, but dropped it.... would have been a very easy pick six but he dropped it. In my mind i count that as an interception because he should have caught it.

Milton is not very good unless he's scrambling around a lot to open things up. His knees seems faulty though.
Sucks is not the correct word. Inconsistent is more like it. He made plenty of great throws yesterday

Thanks for mentioning that about Ainge.

If Nico is throwing INTs in practice against our DBs, what's he going to look like throwing against other SEC defenses under game speed and worrying about a shaky O line?

And I agree, Milton comes up gimpy which would have been the perfect time to get Nico in the game if he were ready. The Roadrunners were in shouting distance so they braced up Milton and ran him back out though.

Yes he is very inconsistent. Against good to average teams he needs to just get the 1st down. When they leave him lots of green to run just run he has straight line speed. These receivers this year are also not as good as they should be .
