What South Carolina forums think of Joe Milton

I just casually watched the SC and MSU game, so I went back and looked at the play by play just for fun but also to confirm that SC seems to do exactly what the Vols do in terms of those short quick passes that you all dislike and will not give Milton credit for making. Yes, they had two long passes of 76 and 75 yards, but almost everything else is like us, except our RBs have been more successful.

The key for the game on Saturday, like it is for most games is turnovers, penalties that stall drives and missed tackles.

It is obvious there are posters on here that have never played a single snap of football at any level.
Most of the time our offense is stopped because we got behind the chains, or there were flags for PI or holding on the D that never got thrown. The slants and deep passes everyone likes are timing passes for the most part. If the defense interrupts that timing the qb looks bad. Not to mention the receivers didn't run the route like they did in practice. That is what CJH means when he is talking about execution. Everyone has a job, including the O line, to do. For the play to be successful everyone has to do their job and do it on time like it was practiced.
One thing is for sure, the deep ball is not falling short 99% of the time.
If you didn't know the outcome of the game and you only read the post on VolNation, one might think we lost the game. SMH GO VOLS!!
It could be that the other team is dead set on stopping the deep stuff and we’re just taking what they’re giving considering we’re just not as talented as last year.

It’s all true. Milton is not a good passer. Pretty much all there is to it.

I think going with Milton is the only significant mistake Heupel has made as coach here and now he’s repeated the same mistake again. I don’t know if it’s arrogance? Or being stubborn?

At this point, I think we just have to ride with them because it is a complex offensive system that requires time to learn. Setting up protections and knowing where to go with the ball based on the looks the defense is giving you, etc.

But we’ve seen enough of Milton to know exactly what he is. He just can’t consistently throw accurate passes. It’s that simple. Many of us worried coming into the year this would be the case. I convinced myself that if anybody could turn him into a great quarterback it’s heupel. But we’ve seen guys like JG that have great size, learn the playbook, and are great leaders but just are unable to consistently make routine throws.

I feel like for his career Milton misses more wide-open, receivers 20 yards plus down the field then he hits. Honestly, I don’t even think it’s close. It feels like he only connects on one out of three or so. Today there were five deep shot wide open, and he missed them all. The pass to Keyton wasn’t wide open, but he put a little air under it and Keaton made a great play. He missed all the other defensive breakdown deep throws as well as at least 2 short/intermediate throws that would’ve went for touchdowns.

He’s a good kid and a good leader. I think he does a good job getting the teams in the right look most of the time. But it’s just not a good passer. I think Heupel just got so enamored with his size and arm strength that he didn’t even consider the most fundamental trait a quarterback must possess. It’s like a shooting guard in basketball that is 6’6”
and has a 40 inch vertical… but is a very poor shooter. At the end of the day… Give me the less physically capable guy that has a pure shooting stroke.
You absolutely nailed it. Milton is never going to be any better, he missed four sure touchdowns when the receivers were wide open, it’s just absolutely inexcusable that Heupel has stayed with him. I don’t think we win more than 6 or seven games this year.

I really think after last night this is probably closet to the truth. I know Ainge said in practices he viewed Nico threw a lot of interceptions. So IMO Coach didn't want to get him in too early to have him do too much and maybe stifle his progress/confidence. Because IMO if he was close to taking the job like some think or hope. He would have been in when Joe got up favoring his leg but they left Joe in to shake it off. That in my mind was very telling. IMO that didn't make sense it was about the only thing that ran through my mind the guy is not ready , their waiting for trash time. I mean Josh was a QB and I would think he would know and maybe he knows the O Line is weak and gonna be without Mays the rest of year.
Did Ainge see that or was that the booze/pills talking? Did he finally stop smack talking other teams or is he still trying to add to the bulletin board this year? I guess we can say he’s not Pat Forde or Dan Wolken.

My problem with Milton is that he won't make the 12 yd check down throw. it is either throw horizontal on the WR screen or throw 60+ and miss a wide open receiver, there is very little in between. I have yet to see him throw a 7 yd out to a WR.
Or a crossing pattern to the tight end or wr

They could care less about nico because he ain’t playing.

Edit to add:
We were literally up 31-14 and they still didn’t put him in today until the last 7 or 8 minutes. If that’s not a sign they don’t want to risk an injury on him, then I don’t know what is.
It’s a sign they don’t want more of a qb controversy.

In the flat. Lol

Great to see the Miltonites showing up.
Another dreadful game passing by Milton and here they come anyway.
It’s the WRs. It’s the Refs. It’s the line. It’s the fans.
No. It’s Joe.
So many missed throws to wide open WRs yesterday for TDs.
All he completed were throws in the flat and a shovel pass.
The next four games will be brutal. Passes on the flat aren’t gonna get it done.
And other teams are gonna start jumping those too.

Exactly I expect to see some pic 6's

IMHO, I’d like to see Milton looking to tuck and run more on plays designed for deeper passes. Hooker put a lot of pressure on defenses having to scheme to contain his running. Milton is a big dude and running doesn’t require pinpoint accuracy to produce positive gains. JMO

Yes he is very inconsistent. Against good to average teams he needs to just get the 1st down. When they leave him lots of green to run just run he has straight line speed. These receivers this year are also not as good as they should be .
I think the receivers will gradually get better over time. I also think Milton needs to find his go to guy....need to feed Bru IMO.

Good news is this year is the end of the Milton experiment. I hate saying that as I support Joe and want nothing more than for him to succeed. Truthfully though, he just is what he is.

95 % of Volnation exits. Including those who call out negas and don't realize they are one also

Criticism isn’t allowed apparently. I’ve seen many criticize and then praise the team for good play all in the same day which is how it’s supposed to be. These people sh*tting rainbows all the time are content with mediocrity.

What I think of South Carolina 💩

Nah really. Who cares. It’s been a different Joe since the second half of Florida. The 3rd QTR woes wasn’t really that concerning since they was experimenting with the oline.

One thing that everyone is not talking about is our rushing attack. They don’t have the speed on defense to keep up with Wright and Sampson. I think the coaches know that’s our strong suit now and that’s why you saw the smile at the end of Josh’s presser.

Our oline will not hold up a run block against a real defense.

Counting all of the passes he's thrown (which is typically), this year he's 80-128.

Thanks for the statistics, got me to realize of the 80 completions I would guess that at least a third of them were simple wide out throws that any average QB can complete.

I truly wanted Milton to be the guy, but my confidence in him is rapidly fading. I still think he should be the starter but we need to be getting Nico some playing experience when we can.
