As bad as TN football has been from 2007-2020, it never struck me that our guys wanted participation trophies and undeserved praise. I guess a lot of the pumpers must coach church league sports where there’s no scoreboard.

How many times has he had a perfectly clean pocket to throw from, other than a screen pass?

You could probably point to the coaching staff for not having more short routes to go with the running game. How many times have we passed to the fullback or tight end?


I dunno, seems like there hasn't been much of an adjustment by the coaching staff to help him out. Only adjustment seems to be, just throw more screen passes.

And also I think a lot of them are too young to get it (I’m 46) just like life it has been a roller coaster ride. But us true ones will die Vols!

No but I know that we were lost in ******* Egypt for years before Heupel arrived.

I guarantee they, and every other SEC school, use ours against us in recruiting.

Not that I approve, but we're pretty much the same as every other SEC team, except Vandy, but that's because they don't have fans.

I think going with Milton is the only significant mistake Heupel has made as coach here and now he’s repeated the same mistake again. I don’t know if it’s arrogance? Or being stubborn?

At this point, I think we just have to ride with them because it is a complex offensive system that requires time to learn. Setting up protections and knowing where to go with the ball based on the looks the defense is giving you, etc.

But we’ve seen enough of Milton to know exactly what he is. He just can’t consistently throw accurate passes. It’s that simple. Many of us worried coming into the year this would be the case. I convinced myself that if anybody could turn him into a great quarterback it’s heupel. But we’ve seen guys like JG that have great size, learn the playbook, and are great leaders but just are unable to consistently make routine throws.

I feel like for his career Milton misses more wide-open, receivers 20 yards plus down the field then he hits. Honestly, I don’t even think it’s close. It feels like he only connects on one out of three or so. Today there were five deep shot wide open, and he missed them all. The pass to Keyton wasn’t wide open, but he put a little air under it and Keaton made a great play. He missed all the other defensive breakdown deep throws as well as at least 2 short/intermediate throws that would’ve went for touchdowns.

He’s a good kid and a good leader. I think he does a good job getting the teams in the right look most of the time. But it’s just not a good passer. I think Heupel just got so enamored with his size and arm strength that he didn’t even consider the most fundamental trait a quarterback must possess. It’s like a shooting guard in basketball that is 6’6”
and has a 40 inch vertical… but is a very poor shooter. At the end of the day… Give me the less physically capable guy that has a pure shooting stroke.

Coaches get intoxicated with Milton’s physical abilities.He’s just not a great qb. Nice kid decent player

Did my eyes lie to me, or did we play a lot of the backups to start the 2nd half on defense?

Someone else stated earlier in this thread that we were experimenting on the OL the first two possessions of the 2nd half.

As for receivers, Webb had only been targeted 3 times (all during the Virginia game) this season before being targeted twice during the 1st 2 possessions of the 2nd half. Was Nimrod getting any snaps those possessions? I think I saw him out there.

Up 31 points, why did Heupel find it necessary to leave his dinged up QB in the game while being comfortable enough for everything else? My best guess is that they just don't think Nico is ready to run the offense.

We can win 8-9 games with Milton, but he needs to play better. Nico very well may have the higher ceiling, but he needs to get better.

Figure out how to disagree without making people totally want to shut you and your posts out of their minds.

I am sick of keyboard tough guys crashing this forum.
Everyone hates crap like your last sentence while we are just wanting to hang out and discuss the VOLS.
