Really? So you think it made more sense for Kiffin who coached in the NFL and couldn't make it, but not for CDD who, without the resources that he now has (better coaches, better facility, name brand product to sell recruits, ) was in the process of turning a hard-sell program around. Sorry, your reasoning is flawed. Give CDD the same time you generously offered Kiffin and he may just surprise some of you.
It should be easier for Dooley to adapt to another college football job than it would be for Kiffin coming straight from the NFL...
Al Davis made a mistake (ask him, he'll confirm this) which is the only reason Kiffin had NFL experience.
It was not his glowing resume.
The Kiffin hire did not thrill me until Monte showed up. Lane was not a home run. The staff was.
I think CDD is not a home run, but I really have no idea. I think his staff will be more important than he ever will.
If his coordinators and coaches are home run hires, we got ourselves a winner.
the jury is still out.
If he was bringing his talent from La Tech..
Or if he finds Nick Saban on the other sideline instead of Utah State's coach...(though I shouldn't say that, because he had some trouble with that coach too)
I don't know if you realize it, but you're suggesting that coaches are more likely to succeed at higher levels of football. That premise is completely and utterly ridiculous.

To say that there is some doubt about whether CDD can ever win a championship at UT is a gross understatement.
There's also doubt that he can ever win the SEC East.
Instead, many here and in other UT circles, feel the best he can do is win may 10 games in his third year at UT, but never any more than that. In the meantime, many concede that he will help recruiting, but that he can not recruit as well as CLK and company. So, even his recruiting upside is limited versus the trajectory we were on.
Before anyone starts claiming that I don't want to Vols to win, let me clarify in saying that we all want the Vols to win.
Yet, is winning and restoring 'mediocrity' at UT over the next 6 or 7 years better for the Vols program, or would simply seeing Dooley repeat his LA Tech record at UT over the next two years get a proven coach on the Hill faster?
I never said he would or would not succeed. Im just pointing out that every single person on here can give facts and predictions and say they "know" he won't succeed, but when it really comes down to it nobody knows anything about how he will do.
How do you know he will not succeed?
I think its ridiculous that you say he will fail when all he has done so far has been good for the program.

I don't know. But you're talking about how Tennessee has "more resources" without acknowledging the fact that it also has more pressure and much, much better competition. Realistically, he's pretty much just as likely to do worse than 17-20 here as he is to improve.
