If Butch runs what he did at Cincy, I want a QB that is able to run. We're not gonna pick apart the SEC with that offense using QBs like Case Keenum and Graham Harrell. See Colt Brennan vs. Georgia for confirmation.
Although I do like the fact Jones is very committed to the run. Very refreshing.
He weighs 160....He isn't a duel threat, if he runs a LB will destroy him. Even a CB would light him up.
Youre what, just out of high school in 1998? You have no idea of the predominant mentality of Vol fans over the years re: black QBs. Sterling Hinton, Holloway, Martin, Jimmy Streater, Schaeffer, Moses Collins, Robinson et al...the feeling among fans was black QBs give UT an advantage because they are superior athletes.
Guess what, they were and in many cases they are.
In 1998, this was confirmed and let me tell you straightaway, I was one of those that agreed. I predicted a NC -dare I say it - once Peyton left after seeing Tee in the closing quarter of the Nebraska-UT bowl debacle.
The only black QB in UT history that might, not was, but might have been considered less athletic was Jerry Colquitt. He lasted one game with a severe knee injury in '94 his 5th yr but at no time was there ever any excitement that this 5th year Senior was a superior athlete.
UT fans who post to this board are youngsters, UT fans who have voice, opinion and understand the history of black QBs at UT are not on this forum.
Has nothing to do with race and everything to do with reality.
There's a difference between dual threat and being mobile he will be the most mobile qb we got when he gets here. If any of our qb's try to take on SEC LB's regularly they might get destroyed. If the O&W white game was a real game some of those times Peterman tried to run he would have gotten lit up.He weighs 160....He isn't a duel threat, if he runs a LB will destroy him. Even a CB would light him up.
Saw this posted on TOS; tidbit from Cleveland last night
"Butch was talking about the starting QB and leadership tonight and he stated something along the lines (and this is paraphrased to the best I could remember), "You know the freshman came in last week, and during a team meeting (entire team), I asked a question to the entire team and the first hand raised to answer the question was...... and that spoke volumes of the kid." in reference to Josh Dobbs
The last NC was won with a black QB. Any other questions?
