Whats the latest on Chris Donald?

Guys, I think Vandy may be in the mix. Could it be that we are all looking over the fact that Donald and Goff could be a force and a helluva LB corp if they got together. I for one don't see us losing him to ND but instead if we lose him it will be to Vandy.

An opinion that would be shared by most knowledge VOL fans that have witnessed the past 20 years of football.

I bring up LSU to remind you of ND's current spot in the world. A highly overrated program that is 0-8 in their last 8 bowl games. The beat will go on.

He's been narrowed down to UT and ND for quite awhile now. Vandy is all but out of it. If he doesn't go to UT, it will be ND......but get ready to see him in orange cause he's coming to Knoxville!

1986 7-5
1988 5-6
1994 8-4
2000 8-4
2002 8-5

Yea I guess last year was uncomparable to the last 20 years...my bad. But then again if the vols would have beat the Irish you would have bean bowl eligble!
:mf_surrender:

dont worry vol nation.... losing to Charlie isn't embarrassing...

it's the fact that you lost to Ty Willingham that should eat at your jorts

you ND guys crack me up. Before Weis you guys werent relevent in like 20yrs, you talk about Weis like he's all world, but your first choice is standing on the sidelines in Gainesville. I like the won-loss list the guy put up that just happens to leave out the Natl Championship season. For all your talk about being on TV all the time, who really watches ND vs Purdue or Michigan State or Navy...a bunch of lame games that nobody but NBC or ND fan cares about. And did you forget about "The Miracle at South Bend""? I can get you a dvd copy if you need one.

Only nine games this year drew over 5.0 million viewers. Here's the list.

1. Ohio State-Michigan
2. Notre Dame-Southern Cal
3. Ohio State-Texas
4. Cal-Southern Cal
5. FSU-Miami
6. Notre Dame-Michigan State
7. Notre Dame-Georgia Tech
8. Ohio State-Iowa
9. Notre Dame-Penn State

Apparently over 5 million viewers wanted to watch that lame Notre Dame game against Michigan State...

you are right... we weren't very relevant (with the exception of a few seasons here and there). i have been a fan of Notre Dame since 1987, and I have lived through all of the terrible years and continued to watch every game. How does this degrade me as a fan? I'm not a fair-weather fan. Some domers are, but there are plenty of die-hards that are willing to watch Notre Dame struggle and still root for them anyway. Why? Dedication and loyalty to our team through thick and thin. I'm glad Meyer is in Gainesville... i think that both Florida and Notre Dame got the coach that was best for each, respectively. Florida is having great success with Meyer, and Notre Dame is having great success (given our talent deficiency) under Weis -- both teams are happy. so, that's always good.

And did you forget about "The Miracle at South Bend""? I can get you a dvd copy if you need one.

Nope, that was a great game, and you guys had an amazing comeback.... one of the better games that I have ever watched -- it's a shame that it didn't end the way that I would've liked it to end, but nonetheless, it's definitely a classic.

actually, Notre Dame games get better ratings than some of NBC's biggest primetime shows.

we won the NC back in '88, which, by my calculations, is only 18 years ago. Back in '93, Notre Dame was arguably robbed of the NC. By my calculations, you just so happened to leave out those seasons, too, my friend.

Th funny thing to me is that I tuned in to those games so I could wathc ND get the snot beat out of them!!!

Seriously tho - My problem with weis is his arrogant attitude. Second - we lost to TW with a true freshman QB - that happened to get injured in that game as well.

And just so you know - the Vols played ND before Weis arrived and I believe that all time the series is 4-4.

as did other people... but, exposure is exposure. if you want to be in the public eye and be seen all across the nation (whether it be people rooting for you or against you), then notre dame is the place to go.

he's a good guy, though. read his book, or listen to his press interviews. Weis has weekly pressers with the media on Tuesdays and you begin to get an inside look at his personal life as well as his coaching. he's simply a New Jersey man -- rough on the outside but gooey on the inside to those close to him. i met him in person, and he was very kind and gracious... he appreciated that I was a fan and thanked me for being a supporter -- he at least took time away from his agenda to talk to me, and i greatly respect that.

i know, i watched the game. you played one half with ainge and then hoyte sacked ainge on the last play of the first half due to a poor snap and ainge went down injured. i think UT would've won the game if ainge didn't get hurt... but still, you lost to Ty Willie... when Notre Dame went 6-6 and lost to BYU that year. With the talent differential that UT had over ND, it shouldn't have even been close. You have guys on this board that say "it's not an accomplishment to beat us last year when we were 5-6", but it's worse when you are ranked top 10 and lose to a team that finishes 6-6.

And just so you know - the Vols played ND before Weis arrived and I believe that all time the series is 4-4.

yeah... i know that. when did i say that Notre Dame was superior to UT? I admitted that UT now has better talent.. and a better defense. I know that. I don't live in the past... I don't sit and relish all of Notre Dame's past championships.... I like to live in the present. I was ecstatic to see the Irish take the last two games from the Vols, but I wouldn't expect the same results this year. I won't argue that Notre Dame is more talented than Tennessee b/c that would be ludicrous, but I think we can beat UT b/c we have a better coach

That last point was more directed at wood master. Sorry but the part about weis being all "gooey" ... that is pretty apparent.

Anyway - I am sure he is a nice guy as you seem to hear that about a lot of coaches - but really what has he done in his 2 seasons to garner such attention. It is not our fault that ND is stupid enough to give him that kind of cash after one season. I just think he needs to earn his respect...you just don't get it cause you beat the service acadamies year in and year out.

BTW - do you think he stays at ND or bolts for the first NFL job that comes calling?

this is the first time in YEARS that he has played all three service acadmies. It's even a rarity that ND plays Air Force and Navy in the same season (which won't happen again for YEARS (after the home-home ends next year), looking at future schedules:

Future Notre Dame Schedules - UHND.com

ND has had top-25 ranked schedules the past 2 years, so it isn't like we are playing pushovers.

Weis has taken a team that was so inconsistent that it lost to pretty terrible teams like: Pitt (41-38), BC (24-23), Purdue (41-16), BYU (20-17), Mich St (22-16), Purdue again (23-10), BC again (27-25), NCSt (28-6), and Syracuse (38-12).... Syracuse, lol.

Not to mention losing to Michigan 38-0, USC 45-14, FSU 37-0, USC 44-13, USC 41-10, Oregon St 38-21

and BARELY squeaking wins out over Navy.

Weis has improved the team drastically... and, while still not at top-10 calibur, ND has taken great strides... easily handling teams that it couldn't previously beat consistently (Pitt, Purdue, Syracuse, Navy) and being competitive with, or beating, teams with FAR better talent (UT, USC last year, Michigan last year, OSU until the last 3 minutes -- ND was down by 7 w/ 4 mins left in the 4th... would've tied the game if the fumble recovered by Zibby and returned for a TD ruling stayed... bet you didn't know that =P ).

Sure, ND isn't at the pinnacle of CFB, and they are far from it, talent-wise. But Weis has taken over a team with a majority of 2* and 3* players and takent them to two straight BCS bowls. He is also bringing top talent back to ND... something that they havent had in years. He is on pace to haul in 2 top-5 recruitments in a row.

He's garnered my praise b/c he has risen ND back to the "relevants" of college football.

edit: oh, and addressing the salary increase/NFL jobs: ND gave Weis the raise b/c NFL jobs came knocking down the door for him. There was a question asked in Weis's last presser... here's the script:

Q. One other thing. How much have you really embraced the college coaching? Is it easier than you thought it would be, or do you have any desire to go back?

COACH Charlie Weis: I don't have any desire to go back to the NFL. I've embraced it probably even more because it's my alma mater. I love it here; my wife loves it here; my kids love it here. And I don't know if I could have embraced every college situation the same as I did with this one.

He's answered this question multiple times, and he continues to reiterate that he doesn't want to leave ND. NFL job opportunities have already presented themselves to Weis multiple times... so I know he stays, and I'm glad =D

He's garnered my praise b/c he has risen ND back to the "relevants" of college football.

SO let me ask this - how hard is it to bring ND bakc to the "relevants" as you put it. With the money, TV contract and history - I would think that most coaches in this country could go there and have similar success in the same 2 seasons as Weis - so what makes him that much different or special?

because, even though we had the money, contract, and history, we were basically ignored by other fans all most of mainstream media under Davie/Ty... as someone else put it on the board, nobody cared about notre dame up until last year. it's the truth... we still had some hype... and we had decent seasons here and there, but nobody, outside of irish faithful, could've named 5 players on the Irish... I bet most CFB fans now could come close.

ND is getting more and more television spots, more articles about them, more recruiting intrests, and more media coverage... whether they deserve it or not, they are getting all of this... much more than ND had in Ty's regime. Davie took a major program and watched it fade into mediocrity and drop from the media spotlight... Willingham had one year of fame but quickly lost it after his smokes and mirrors campaign took a turn for the worst (after the USC game in his first season). Weis has not only maintained the attention, but he has been able to draw interest from HS kids again who wouldve overlooked ND in the past.

Weis is a media magnet -- and most of it is controversial, but his personality (be it arrogant or whatnot) has put ND back in the spotlight (much to the chagrin of other fans).... and ND is hated now more so than any time that I can remember under Davie and Ty. I think Weis has a special personality that demands attention that not too many coaches have. He speaks his mind and isn't scared to do it.

I can understand your argument that other coaches would be able to bring ND back into the "relevants". And, it's hard to argue your point, but compared to Davie and Ty, I think Weis has been the most sucessful at doing so. And I will give you a big emphatic "yes sir" to the fact that getting media attention at ND is MUCH MUCH easier than any other school -- no doubt about it... and I know people really hate that, but I agree with you, if Weis were a coach at another school, he wouldn't get near the attention he gets now.

clowers,

volracer and i werent even arguing. he was asking some polite questions, and i was politely answering. there was no bickering or arguing. if you dont want to read a conversation between myself and someone else, then don't.... simple as that.

that's rude for you to even attack me for having a civil conversation about my team with another Vol fan...

so you are acting as if i hijacked the thread? i took it off topic for a few posts... no harm there.

after that, volracer began asking me questions, and i simply answered them -- don't blame that on me. and if you don't want to read the posts, then dont. skip to the chris donald posts.

i'm not a smartass for telling it like it is.

how am i even stuck on myself?

where have i been beligerent without first being provoked? i may have said something to tick you off, but i assure you, it was out of a defensive mindset after first being attacked.

where have i been an unprovoked smartalek... give me proof.

NOw NOW children I asked the questions and he answered them. you might not like his answers but he is entitled to his opinion. So chill tfo.

thanks, volracer.

anyway, i am headed out for the holidays guys... i'll be back after the 1st of january. time to do some serious snowboarding. have a good one. be safe. enjoy your families and friends.

Merry Christmas, VolNation!
