When “Portland” comes to your town, where are you gonna go?

Have you ever heard of the computer game hearts of iron. It's a WW2 simulator that's not all that realistic but it involves the utilization and struggle for resources like that. It sort of gives perspective on how screwed the Germans were if they weren't able to hold the south eastern European oil fields
Sounds interesting but I am too busy selling German-made catalyst (and occasionally posting on VN) to get much into computer games... LOL.

Not sure where I will go, but know who I will call...........Ghostbusters.

It's a bigger issue when a public service paid to protect citizens is the one responsible for the unnecessary loss of life.

Jmo.

I don't disagree with that position. There's been an egregious abuse of personal and institutional power, no doubt. The police force has turned from "serving and protecting" to something that more closely resembles the military without any of the discipline or training while taxpayers are busy bailing out the offending officers through sovereign immunity. They are rightfully getting taken to task by the public for their indiscretions, as a whole they deserve everything that they've gotten and then some. I don't trust the police, not even a little and im a white guy that makes pretty decent money. I can't imagine how poor POC must feel.

Still, if the black lives matter wants to changes hearts and minds or win sympathy to their cause - they really need to look in the mirror and get a handle on the black on black violence. It just sort of rings hollow that the community is demanding folks respect black lives when the community doesn't respect it themselves.

Id sat it’s pretty standard faire for ploesti to be a major factor in the German effort in WW2 wargaming. Pretty much always worth sacrificing a great deal of units to hold onto it.

I think government abuse of it's citizens transcends the racism and that we are all victims from time to time. I'm not saying there's never a racial element though either. One of my issues with BLM is that seems to correlate with more Government empowerment, the very same government that abuses us. I also think the movement to defund police is symbolic and does not make any progress in fixing the issue. I think it's just something to pitch out to the angry masses

What I've witnessed in my years on this earth is if you don't break the law you won't have any altercations with the police. What I do have a problem with is the chicken sh!t small town assholes that pull people over for 2 mph over the speed limit and proceed to harass the hell out of them. I think there needs to be a law that 90% of a police forces funding needs to come from taxpayers dollars. Little hick towns don't need their own police force funded by speeding tickets on the the interstate, when the county can provide police protection.

This is somewhat random question. But what do you consider yourself politically. Trump, Biden, Democrat and Republican aside, what do you ideally want to see from our government. This is a vague question but I'm especially interested in political opinions that differ from my own.

The people calling for the police to be defunded need to wake up and realize what would happen if that came to fruition, especially for communities with high crime. I am all about “police reform” but defunding the cops is ludicrous.

I had my dad put in handcuffs by Irving police 10 years ago coming home from a rangers game. This was for a speeding ticket that was a bit overdue. I understand that they have to enforce things, but is handcuffing a father with a broken ankle in front of his 13 year old son and appropriate action? It's not like my Dad had a criminal record either. This wasn't egregious Rodney King stuff either and I'm not trying to portray it as such. But to me it was excessive use of government authority and something that the situation did not call for. Point being our government no longer serves us and needs some reform in my opinion.

Yep, kind of like the red light cameras that sprung up everywhere about 10-15 years ago. One of my kids was going to school at ETSU and got caught in an intersection turning left when someone walked out in the crosswalk in front of her. She got nailed for "running a red light" while she waited for them to cross. The car was in my name and it cost me $150 for a bullshite charge.

It's kinda astounding how pervasive this stuff is

I personally would prefer to see the government provide infrastructure and national defense and little else. I lean right fiscally and left socially.

I identify as a Apache attack helicopter and prefer the pronoun it.

"be careful what you wish" for keeps coming to mind.

I'm pretty much the same. I imagine that I'll be eternally dissatisfied with my government as a result

It's not the police's fault that your dad had an outstanding warrant. They have to take him into custody at that point and they are required to handcuff him if they arrest him

I'm not going to pretend like I know about the first two companies you mentioned. But I know that Krupp was definitely run by the Nazi party. They were responsible for producing many of the Germans artillery pieces, one of the most vital things to combat of the era. There's no chance that Hitler being the state builder that he was, would have not had government control of the principle producer of the Wermacht's field guns. As for the other two companies you mentioned, they may have been nominally "private". But just about all industries of consequence in Nazi Germany were headed by people affiliated with the party. So what you might consider private in theory likely wasn't private in practice. Didn't think I'd get to have a convo about WW2 Germans with you but I'm here for it lol

World's largest chemical company in the 1940s, electronics (they make auto parts and Sylvania light bulbs) and arms. All three remained in private or stock holder's hands. Krupp was wholly owned by the Krupp family until the late sixties. All three did product research and received orders for finished product from Germany but none were "run" by Nazis.
