I was at my grandparents house, 209 E Chilhowie, Johnson City. I was sick, with a bad fever and the flu, on the couch. I was a 11. I just remember winning and being so happy despite delirious with fever. I have longed for another championship since. Ironically I am recovering from the shingles now. So, I have thought how strange it will be if I get to witness the next SECC win sick. You asked so...

And your hands felt just like two balloons?

Wow, I sure feel old reading this thread, most of you weren’t born yet or super young.
I was 14, about to turn 15 in 3 days. Was a 9th grader at Bearden Jr. High. I think it was a Saturday night and I was at a party, people weren’t really paying attention to the game that much until close to the end. But those last few minutes and overtime we were all glued to the tv and celebrated afterwards.

What’s interesting about the tournament in 1979, is it was the first tournament in many years. They had discontinued it back in 1952.
So this was a brand new thing for most of us.

There were only 10 teams in the SEC, and the first two seeds #1 LSU and #2 Tennessee not only had a bye, they a double bye. So it definitely gave us an advantage. Tennessee only played 2 games while Kentucky had to play 4.

Never the less, we were excited for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. But Tennessee fizzled out in the second round against a good Notre Dame team after we had won over Eastern Kentucky in the first round. Back then there were only 40 teams.

79 was the famous final between Magic vs Bird.

Hanging out in my mom's uterus. Hung out in there for a few more months as I planned my escape...

I was in the midst of a very difficult pregnancy and trying to finish anesthesia school. Did not go to this game but we did go to an NCAA tournament game and also saw Magic Johnson play. I managed to complete both the pregnancy and school successfully, although my son came 2 months early and I finished school 6 months late.

I was a sophomore at UTK and loved that team. Watching them beat Kentucky was awesome. Reggie Johnson, Howard Wood were so fun to watch especially against Kentucky.
