Who do you think will replace Franklin at Vanderbilt?

Schiano should at least get a phone call. He did a great job at Rutgers. If nothing else opens up, who knows, Vandy might luck out.

Would be kind of funny if Kirby Smart went there. It'd open up a position for Ogre in Bama. It would also mean every NCAA investigator swarming into Tuscaloosa.

Facing truth, Vandy will never be a football powerhouse. They need to accept who they are and embrace the stepping stone status. Yeah, it means a new coach every few years, but it means up-and-coming coaches looking to be successful so they can move on. Losing means getting stuck there. As long as they win while they're there, Vandy fans would/should be happy.

I bet Vandy will in a bout of despair with the clock ticking will offer the job to MTSU Coach Rick Stockstill. I bet CRS would take the VU job in a New York minute.

That's a pretty good observation. Look at schools like Cincy as an example under Kelly and Jones.

If the coach at Vandy can keep them going to bowls and competing against the better competition they'll get better gigs. It's the nature of the job at Vandy.

That was pretty bad, however the standard still remains Tim "uhhhhhmmmmm" Tebow

I didn't think they could get more delusional, but they are now claiming that Jim Mora is rumored to be interested. :)

Vandy's AD sounded pretty arrogant saying last hire they had to beg people and fly all over to interview, now those same people are asking to interview. I think it's pretty late to get a good coach to change and try to lure a new staff. Getting closer and closer to signing day. Let's see how good of job this really is. My guess is a non BCS conference coach.

It looks like Franklin is taking all the assistants but 1. They don't really have anyone recruiting over there. Thwy could possibly end up with virtually no one in the signing class unless they take a bunch of kids in desperation at the end.

I would think Schiano would be the first guy contacted. Did a good job at a similar type school. Jim McElwain would be another good hire IMO.

They'll have a harder time than they're expecting.

One, you're following a guy with a cult-ish following, which can be a pain. Although Franklin seems to have burned plenty of bridges on his way out...given the way players bought what he sold, having a unified team might be difficult.

Second and more importantly, on the surface, the job has been improved but I have a feeling when a coach really kicks the tires (and consults with peers) they'll see a lot of the improvements are only skin deep. Still very limited ceiling, woeful stadium, woeful gameday experience compared to any other SEC school, improved support facilities but still mid to bottom tier, scheduling will have to improve, etc.

Extremely well put. When you are having the most successful seasons in a century, and have to "give" tickets away to fill your stadium it says a lot about the fan support and culture.

I understand their passion for their team, but I just don't see an up and coming or big name coach being attracted to the job, not only this close to signing day but also for the reasons you mentioned.
