I understand that his job wasn't hard, and the guy was no exceptional athlete, but it says something that their worst starter was invited to multiple Heisman ceremonies. And I'm not trying to argue that say everyone was a Heisman trophy quality player or anything like that, I'm just saying that they made a quarterback who turned out to be average, look untouchable for a couple years.Ken Dorsey was pretty average.
Nebraska buzzsawed everybody. Beat four top 10 teams. The NC game is no comparison. Nebraska had to face UF and Steve Spurrier while Miami played a Nebraska team coming off an absolute ass whooping led by Frank Solich. Let's not forget, Tom Osborne vs Larry Coker.
I don't remember Wuerffel, but I'd guess his success had more to do with Spurrier's brilliance, while Dorsey's had more to do with the fact that he was surrounded by first rounders and NFL player. The only way he could really blow it was by being an idiot, IMO.Great minds. My original post said he was the Wuerffel of the 2000's.
Okay, but that '01 Nebraska team sucked harder.

Oh, I'm sure he did, but Dorsey spent his career throwing to the likes of Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Jeremey Shockey, Andre Johnson, Kellen Winslow, etc. While handing off to Portis, McGahee, Gore, etc. Also behind a really good offensive line. Nick Stephens could have made all conference with that talent to work with on offense.Florida had quite a few also. It didn't hurt that Spurrier's playcalling and offensive design were such that a QB could simply drop back, count to 2.5, and launch it to a particular spot knowing that the receiver would be open, though.
In a couple of years, the most overrated HC to win a title will be Lane Kiffin. I'll bet $1,000, though, that when he wins a title at USC it won't be against an SEC opponent.
Note: These predictions are based on the assumption that nothing major will happen to USC for all of their scandals.
At the end of the year, the teams they beat finished 2,5,11,12.
