Who is the worst/most over rated football coach to win a national championship?

Coker inherited a team that was probably at least 35 points better than anyone else in the game that year.

At least he won with that team. Miles lost two games to inferior competition. If he had of coached the same team at Miami, he probably would have found a way to give away at least one game.

Tressel is winning in a terrible conference. Their bottom 6 is horrible. I'd take Brown over Stoops, but that's just me.
Agree with the first sentence, but I still think he's good. Strongly disagree with the last sentence.

I saw both teams. This is my opinion. Nebraska was a machine from start to finish. When looking at 2 teams that great, you have to get very picky. I say Nebraska wins in a head-to-head. The "in a landslide" comment was added for drama.

the two defenses aren't remotely comparable and the athleticism is close, with UM out front, at the very best. Both teams were awesome, but that UM team had more talent.

If Coker was in his third year at LSU in 2007, he'd have lost 5 games.

Nebraska buzzsawed everybody. Beat four top 10 teams. The NC game is no comparison. Nebraska had to face UF and Steve Spurrier while Miami played a Nebraska team coming off an absolute ass whooping led by Frank Solich. Let's not forget, Tom Osborne vs Larry Coker.

Thank you.

Any coach who would lose a game with that team shouldn't be coaching anything above middle school football, if even that.

Nebraska was more dominant throughout the year, but I think the Miami defense was good enough to stop them.

It would have been a very good game, but I don't know if Nebraska could have won without a passing game.

Both teams were loaded though.

If you think Fulmer only had 2 bad seasons at UT, your standards are the same as South Carolina's.

Feasting on Vandy, UK, USC Lite, UGA teams coached by Ray Goff and Jim Donnan, and Alabama teams on probation and coached by Mike Shula isn't exactly what legends are made of.

If he had a winning record against UF instead of annually crapping himself in that rivalry, or won 2 more SEC titles, I might let the 75% win percentage argument stand.

You know the two seasons I am talking about. I would love to win every game every year, but we all know that can't happen. I would have loved to have had better luck against Florida, but at least he broke the Alabama curse and put it back on them for a long while. I know he is not Kiffin(sarcasm), but give the guy some respect.

Look, I'm biased for 2 reasons:
1 - I love a well-run option. It doesn't get any better than Osborne's squads.
2 - They dropped the hammer on FL. I even thought I saw a tear come out of Spurrier's eye, which made me smile.

Miami never had a huge problem with the option. I think the most they ever gave up against it was in 1983, and they still won. They were faster than everyone else, and the 2001 team was the best and fastest. I think they would have had success defending it.

Nobody had success defending it in 1995. That team was special. It was the perfect option storm.

I really wished we could have seen a better NC game in '01. I don't think UT or UF would have had a chance to win that game, but both would have put up a better fight than Nebraska.

There wasn't a team that would provide the comparison like 1995 Florida, though. Unfortunate.

Not saying Tressel is bad. He has been impressive. But people forget he inherited a strong program beforehand with (i think) Cooper. They fired him because he couldn't beat Michigan and Carr (and viceversa for Carr).

Question: If McCoy doesn't get hurt and Texas wins the National Title against Bama, does your opinion change? Just curious. And like I said, I have been impressed the last few years with Brown. Before Vince Young's great performance, I would have put him overrated.

I think Miami was better on both sides of the ball.

Florida had a really good team that year, and Nebraska put the worst beatdown on them that I've ever seen in major college bowl game. They absolutely abused Florida on both offense and defense. While Miami's 2001 team was great, they never faced any team that entire season that was as physically dominant as the 1995 Nebraska squad.
