Who takes over at Alabama?

Saban kept the renegade Bama boosters in check. Now school is out and who knows what could happen. Lanning might wait it out until Saban's successor flops and then go for it but the talent already there may be an enticement. Kiffen who could be 3rd or 4th choice might be in play but I think the Boosters and pressure would eat him up.

Agree. The gumps may not believe this but not every one is lining up for this job. If I remember correctly before Saban fell into their lap they were having a hard time finding someone to take the job.

And that was after Mike Riley and Rich Rod turned them down. Imagine what Ala would have been if Rich Rod had taken that job?? A huge dumpster fire!

Rich Rod(riguez) turned them down. can't remember if he stayed at WVU another year or ended up taking the Michigan job that same season he turned down Bama.
It was such a wild story. Basically, he got upset when the news of it leaked and changed his mind. Crazy.

If this is true, I think he is using this for more money. The job he has now probably pays enough and does not have near the pressure. You never know though.

If they like him that much at Oregon they’ll match it unless it’s an insane $ amount. That being said there is zero chance this just happened. The fat cats have probably known for a while and Saban has already put his approval on it.

To further the approval point:

I don’t think Saban is simply riding off into the sunset here. I think he will still have a very strong say about what happens in and around the building. The new position title who knows but I definitely don’t think he’s just going away.

At 72, I do not see that. He has accomplished more than any other coach in college football and you have to look at what is remaining in life. I am sure that there are things he has probably wanted to do with his life but his career has dominated. Now is the time he can satisfy his family and personal desires. And, I am sure that he would not to want to personally be associated with things in Tuscaloosa if the program burns out.

If that was the case, if I was a football coach I would not like that.

I'm sure Nike U will make bammer pay up for him, but I can see them paying whatever to get what they want. They've been stacking $$$ for a long time due to Saban's success.
Looks like I was wrong, lol. Lanning has said he's staying at Oregon according to media

Maybe the greatest what if in college sports

If Rich Rod takes that job, Saban stays at Miami for another year. The highest profile job to come open after 2007 (assuming Saban left or was fired from Miami?

Michigan.

I honestly think if Saban had stayed at Miami and not gone to Ala, he possibly ends up back at LSU or goes to Texas. I could be wrong, but maybe??
