Who takes over at Alabama?

Prime is already taking over the Aflac commercials. I think he would be a good choice so we could start our dominance against them again. That would be a far stretch though . Saban isn't leaving until he get another championship even if it takes 15 years

I know you’ll get trashed on here for your post but I wouldn’t be surprised especially if he lucks up and wins the natty with the second worst quarterback in the sec. Dude doesn’t like NIL and transfer portal at all. Bought a 17 million dollar house on the beach. Tuscaloosa is the left armpit of Alabama. You know he’s ready to get out of there. Also he knows there’s not going to be these 13-0 seasons anymore with more teams coming.
Yep, he can still slide money and have all Bama fanboy/ friendly refs.. but other aspects are now out of his control.(and we know how he loves control.. it was what he demanded of Bama when taking the job in the first place... If I were him I would try and go out on a high note, but he strikes me as stubborn

I have this conversation with my bammer friends and the majority of them go to Kiffin. He was very popular during his tenure as OC and he would take it in a heartbeat. Dabo would have been the top choice a few years ago but I think that ship has sailed. Alabama is going to have a real issue finding the guy to replace Saban. They should easily be able to find a guy that consistently wins around 10 games a year but that won’t ever be good enough for the fan base.

I think his ego is very big because of his accomplishments. If he drops to LSU and misses the playoffs, I think he gets out without looking like he can’t compete at the top anymore.

I tend to agree - I think how this year ends up will dictate if he moves on. I'm sure he would like to go out a champion, but Texas messed up his plan.

And if I was a coach, I would not want to be the one that follows him. I would wait until maybe coach number 2 or 3 to avoid any comparison. Saban has not adjusted to the changes very well, rather he has complained about most of the stuff. Playing field has been leveled.

Whoever they hire it will be someone that nobody expects just like 100% of the other coaching hires.

One of the dumbest things being said is "never follow a legend". D1 coaches are the most competitive, egotistical people out there. There isn't a single coach out there that is good to great that gives a flip who they follow. I would even go as far as they'll be beating down the door cause the cupboard will be stacked.

You have to take a batshit crazy fan base into account when taking that job. No matter how egotistical you are and you might even be winning 10+ games a year, you won’t be Nick. FFS They were ready to run Saban out of town after the USF game. There’s a quality of life to consider for you and your family no matter the $ amount.

My favorite "criticism" of Saban that I've read from a Bammer is "he hasn't won a national title in a 'regular' season in 6 years."

Lots of football left to be played, but so far this season is actually one of his more impressive tactical coaching jobs. With the team he's got this year the Texas, Ole Miss, A&M, and Tennessee games were all totally lose-able and he's only dropped one of them. I bet they beat LSU this weekend and win the SEC West.

I agree . I also thinks he kind of prefers this kind of team. Lean on the running game and defense and tough it out. I’m sure Milroe drives him nuts at times, but he has them in position to make the CFP. I know there’s less than a percentage of chance, but I’d love to get them in Atlanta.

The difference is the thinking of the Bammers is way worse than we are (and have been) during our searches. They think just because they are Alabama they can reach into any program and snatch out the coach they want. Not even thinking coaches like Dabo (maybe not as of late) or Smart have built their own dynasties and have no desire to move. Nor would the schools they currently work for not try to counter any offer.

I agree it'll be someone who isn't on anyone's radar. But I think a lot of their fan base will be disappointed when it isn't the championship caliber steal from another program like they think it will be.

I’m hoping Saban is setting Bama up for a dark period similar to our post-Fulmer years. The expectations will be unreasonably high regardless of who they hire. They’ll place Saban-level expectations on the next hire while we all know Saban is a generational coach who’s success likely won’t be duplicated in our lifetime.

I'm not sold that Prime is a great coach or anything, but I don't want him in the SEC recruiting wise. He'd be a behemoth for at least a couple of cycles. He really doesn't have the players at Colorado, so I don't think it can be said at this point that he couldn't be pretty successful if he had the players. The media screwed him over this year by hyping him so much to start with. 4-4 is pretty good for them at this point but now it seems like a disappointment when really it shouldn't be.

Before Saban the gumps we’re having trouble finding a good coach. They were turned down by several candidates if I am remember correctly.

I agree. They were a bargain in Vegas at the beginning of October - I took a flyer on them at 50-1 to win the CFP.

Deion isn't good enough and I honestly do not think Alabama would put up with his attitude for every long.
