Who takes over at Alabama?

Seems like the safe bet. He also strikes me as an alpha who wouldn’t give a damn about “following a legend.”
And he’s had instant success, so it’ll be fun when he experiences his first letdown. 😏

Not predicting this, but just an observation:
Kiffin has had the opportunity to replace a beloved, winning coach at USC, which at that time had a high profile program, and learn from those mistakes.

Another observation:
If the trustees of the Alabama program are mostly focused on not losing their current collection of 5-star talent to the portal, they will need to quickly assure all that the incoming Offensive and Defensive Coordinators are committed to the style of football for which these players were recruited.

I don't presume to know what style of play each VolNation-named coaching candidate prefers.

Another thought:
Coaches have long had agents who explore vacancy opportunities for them, before they allow their name to become publicly connected with the coaching search.

It just occurred to me that the work of those agents must now include a full and predictive fiscal evaluation of a team's NIL resources for the next 10 years. That might even be a new career specialty to whom they contract that work.

I owe you an apology. Great call and I didn't believe it. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Past that, and whatever pound of flesh you want to take, have you got any info on who's next?

I lean in on Lanning because he's SEC seasoned and young enough that if the job eats him, he can still have a good career.

But mostly, you've earned it if you talk crap about half of VN tonight. Enjoy!
I don’t. Just that Saban made the decision a while back this would be his last year.

Obvious bias here, I'd love to have Lanning stay in Eugene. As for whoever takes over it's going to be a very tough job. Most people taking over after a Saban type "Legend" typically can't live up to fans expectations. It's better to let someone else come in and fail, then come in and save the train wreck.
Agree. The gumps may not believe this but not every one is lining up for this job. If I remember correctly before Saban fell into their lap they were having a hard time finding someone to take the job.

I don’t care who succeeds Saban. B*** will be a horrible place to work. Many capable coaches will demure. I pray that this is the beginning of decades of darkness and despair for Bammers.

They just had a coach who coached for 16 years.
Why would they hire a guy that would last for 4 at best??

How many times do people need to see that Urban cant take the big stage for an extended amount of time?

Weird answer given 4-5 years was the longest Saban spent anywhere before Bama

Exactly. People forget this. They were desperate because nobody would take the job. The pressure of coaching there and following Saban's run will be immense. Someone will take the gig but they're absolutely crazy because these Gumps are as spoiled and entitled as they've ever been.

When you’re the top job, I don’t think you think like that.

The only way he’d come back is if he didn’t have to face Saban every year…

Who all turned them down?

There’s no way he survives under the pressure. If he doesent come out competing for championships they’ll burn him at the trailer fire.
If this is true, I think he is using this for more money. The job he has now probably pays enough and does not have near the pressure. You never know though.
