Why are people upset with UT firing Pearl?

UT has to protect the basketball program? Who cares if we did indeed get a 2 year post season ban. We aren't gonna make the tourney the next 2 years now anyways

This.

Hmm get banned from tourney 2 years with Pearl then rebound because CBP is a proven winner or...

Hire lesser talented coach than Pearl, miss tourney 2 years. Program set back for years.

This is it right here. The NCAA has put UT in an awful position -- keep him and we absolutely ream you, or fire your popular coach and your fans ream you. Most of the people rending their clothes over this have no idea what a bad spot the UT administration folks are in.

I wish Hamilton could come out at the press conference and explain this, but no doubt all the lawyering involved makes speaking frankly about it in public impossible.

At this point would you expect people to believe him?

I know a lot of people that are a lot smarter that I am that don't get that Bruce f'd up and that UT was going to be absoutely railroaded by the NCAA if he stayed.

We at least have a 50/50 chance of surviving this now, with Pearl on the sideline we had 0.

How do you know we won't make the tourney? Pearl isn't respected by well-known coaches in college basketball or the AAU circuit. Which means he isn't respected by top recruits. Which means we were going to continue to overpay him to get spanked by more talented teams every season.

Bottom line is..as most parents know and understand...you have to set standards and then hold yourself to them before you can hold your children to them...problem is...todays standards are not as standard as they used to be...

Bottom line is, when you hire a coach that is not respected by too many people who matter then this day is to be expected. Period.

But we'll have a coach who can, you know, coach.

Really? I had no issue with the way Bruce Coached. I thought he was one of the best all around coaches we ever had. Better than anyone we've had since Ray Mears and I've been following UT that long.

We went through a period of duds after they fired DeVoe, that I would love to forget, until CBP brought us out of the wilderness and I hate to see him go.

That being said, I understand the need for him to go, just as I understand the need for Hamy to follow him. I will continue to be a Vol Basketball supporter, but I think we are not going to be the program we have been for the last several years after this. And I refuse to dance on CBP's Coaching Grave like a lot of those here seem to doing!

I think it's just ignorance. They don't understand that we really have no choice, and the only person to be mad at is Bruce. He's the one who backed us into this corner.

I don't think it's at ignorant to be upset that the most successful era in UT bb history (or at least in my lifetime) is over. Now with that said it had to be done and hopefully the next era will be even more successful but I believe it's actually ignorant to not at least be a little upset.

In answer to the OP: because they don't understand the game, the rules, life, etc.

I think if you can't understand why a fanbase who's just lost one of it's (if not the) most successful coaches(even if it's justified) is upset then you're the one with a lot to learn about the game and life.

I understand that. People are just blatantly aiming their anger at the wrong people.

On to bigger and better things for UT basketball. Open the treasure chest and hire a good one. Pearl would have been gone by now if Zona or other programs would have given him the job.

All of these people saying that getting rid of Pearl was the right thing to do and that he university HAD to do it are detached. It is about like a close family member robbing bank and when he gets caught you disown him. We hired Pearl, he mad a bad mistake and then we turn our back on him. That is just not right. There is no integrity or honor in this. we did the crime, we need to do the time. Especially since no one else on here has EVER lied about anything.

Pearl, and only Pearl, is responsible for this. He's not bigger than the university or the basketball program.
