Why are people upset with UT firing Pearl?

UT has to protect the basketball program and the only way to do that was to fire Pearl. It's not like they're doing this for no apparent reason. Why wasn't everyone this upset when the possibility of him being fired was first mentioned last year?

Most people are upset because they don't like following a loser, even if said loser team belongs to "your university". They didn't follow until we started winning consistently. Said fans are also probably the same ones who stopped going to football games after Fulmer's last stand.

On to bigger and better things for UT basketball. Open the treasure chest and hire a good one. Pearl would have been gone by now if Zona or other programs would have given him the job.

But....but....he's family. He would never do that. The man never set foot in the state of Tennessee until age 45, but now he bleeds orange more than any of us. He would die for this university if he had to.

Because they don't care about UT basketball. They only care about the Tan Man.
You are wrong. They care. Where as the ones like you could would care less if the program goes down. As long as the man you hate is fired.

Sure Pearl has done some wrong things this season but what about what he has done for the program, university and the Vol Nation since he became coach? The B-Bal program hasn't seen this much energy in the fan base since the days of Ernie & Bernie Show. We were like what...5th or 6th in the country in attendance.

Sure he's not bigger than the program but he sure as hell put us back on the map. But make a mistake and lord and behold how many of those faithful want to throw him under the bus. At least he didn't do like many others out there; quit and take a job somewhere else and left UT holding the bag and deal with the NCAA alone. He's being made an example of since we're not some big name in the B-Ball arena. Plus being in the SEC doesn't help unless you're Kentucky.

No no no... don't try to turn this around on us. The university did what it needed to do to salvage the program that BRUCE PEARL and only Bruce Pearl put in jeopardy. Just because the UT Redneck Basketball alliance can't grasp the fact that Bruce Pearl isn't the be-all, end-all basketball doesn't mean that the program can't go forward. If anyone is ready to let somebody take the program down, it is you and those like you.

He made the job more attractive and won some games, and I appreciate it. Now he's gone, and it was 100% warranted and the absolute correct move.

It's not the fact that he tans. It's not the fact that he had one mediocre season. It's the fact that he has gotten the program into deep **** whilst lying and supposedly telling recruits to lie to the NCAA. If he had just had a cookout for juniors and immediately owned up to it, then I would still want him here. However, the basketball program was given an ultimatum because of pending sanctions. Keep Bruce or suffer heavily. I can't blame the higher ups one bit for making this decision.

Never said he wasn't responsible. What I am saying is that WE hired him therefore WE are liable as well.

What a steaming load of crap. He's an employee who betrayed his employer. "WE" didn't do a damn thing except hire a guy with no character.

Somebody should tell Coach K, Bob Knight, Brad Stevens, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, etc. that they can't win with integrity.

So if everybody cheats and Bruce got caught maybe he is simply a dumb-a**. Is that the argument?

It's not that he got caught. He actively tried to cover it up, got caught, lied about it, came back with a tearful bull**** apology, then tried to cover up another violation.

It's. Not. That. Hard. To. Understand.

yes, there's not a coach on that list without smoke. great point.

i'm certain that some squeaky clean guy can just waltz into knoxville and win.

Why don't you find me an instance of when any of those guys pulled anything similar to what Pearl did? I'll wait.
