Why are people upset with UT firing Pearl?

It's not that he got caught. He actively tried to cover it up, got caught, lied about it, came back with a tearful bull**** apology, then tried to cover up another violation.

It's. Not. That. Hard. To. Understand.

it's no hard at all to understand. we fired a coach for lying to the ncaa about a minor offense and he'll have a job as soon as he's allowed to coach. those *****ing about integrity are quite clueless and probably need to hit up this site:

Uh oh, another true fan argument. Hey buddy, how about this for true fandom? I think that Tennessee is fully capable of winning without Bruce Pearl. Don't like it? Click your link.

"guys, we don't need to cheat. just look at all these winners from when before i was born and from the regal society of college basketball. it can be done."

Holy **** dude, as evidenced by the Lane Kiffin era, no one really cares about minor violations in recruiting. But when you are stupid enough to lie about them when you get caught red-handed, you deserve whatever punishment you get.

Oh, and he lost 2 of the 3 recruits he committed the violation for.

i disagree. he lied about something minor therefore i barely care.

there are different degrees of lying just like there are different degrees of crime and degrees of everything else on the planet.

It doesn't matter what he lied about. We didn't fire him because he lied. We fired him because the NCAA was going to nuke the program back into the Stone Age if we didn't dump him.

I don't think you understand what you are forgiving him for.

That he lied and had fake tears and a stupid bump rule? I still dont care what he did. And I still forgive him. Did I mention hes a winner in an otherwise Sh!$$y bball program. Seems like the only people that wanna fire him are the old farts.

How do you know we won't make the tourney? Pearl isn't respected by well-known coaches in college basketball or the AAU circuit. Which means he isn't respected by top recruits. Which means we were going to continue to overpay him to get spanked by more talented teams every season.

I can think of some coaches of #1 ranked teams that have respect for his coaching ability.

I've watched UT bb since the 70s and was lucky enough to see Ernie and Bernie at Stokley. In the almost 40 years since I first watched, this was the most sucessful I've ever seen it. It was fun to see Kentucky sweat each time we played them. We beat the eventual NC gator team twice. UT has won 16 NCAA tourney games. 8 of those were under BP. We actually were ranked #1 in the country. This was it - our time.
But no more. It very well could be another 30 years before UT bb is relevant again. Sad.
Thanks Mike.

On to bigger and better things for UT basketball. Open the treasure chest and hire a good one. Pearl would have been gone by now if Zona or other programs would have given him the job.

you mean on to smaller and worse things?

coaches have won at UT (even bad ones) and will again. Also don't forget many of the "old farts" are the ones funding the UTAD

I am 21 years old and remember what it was like before Bruce....Bruce left this program 100 times better than when he took over...

BUT...He flat out lied to the NCAA...made the apology...then 4 days later had another violation....He obviously thought he was above the University...

It was time to go...We will find another coach....The sky isn't falling...Calm down

It's still UT basketball, no matter who the coach is. I watched Allen light it up. I watched Scooter light it up. The team as a whole sucked, but I still watched.

I remember watching the Kevin O'Neil garbage....Jerry Green making Tennessee respectable again...and Buzz Peterson running it into the ground....

I will think that for sure....

I will always believe that no coach(no matter how successful) is above the University....
