Why is it taking so long to turn around?

who are you talking about. The amount of respect for any comment depends from where it came.

And the media are very random. George plaster is huge with many vandy people in town and my 12 yr old knows more about sports than him.

Media from other cities don't even know or care about UT. They just rewrite what they read from local yahoos.

writers in nashville paper, usa today, i think most agree he isn't getting the job done. random fans are alot more harsh on him, and considering he can't beat anybody worth beating really can't blame them.

No doubt. When we know the fla qb is going to run the ball, and he goes untouched for 80, it's crazy. When teams go off tackle for 75 over and over, any coach assumes you are going to make the tackle at the first or second level. When a guy like Teague is having a terrible game, and you all out blitz on 3rd and 9 to leave him on an island, there have to be frustrations.

You would hope by now that you have recruited over more of the deficiencies than we have. He along with Brewer stand out. Maybe the younger guys make some athletic plays going forward that cover up some of the mistakes.

I agree. Sal has not helped some of those situations by being as aggressive as he has been. As much as I hate "bend but don't break" its better than just getting flat out broke.

Im not here to say no improvement has been made but lets put some context behind the 1-7 and 4-4

LSU, Arky vs. Mizzou, MSU has a lot to do with that.

That leaves Vandy and UK as the constants. Which we should sweep no matter the situation.

While improvements have been made 1-7 vs. 4-4 doesn't really show what you would think it does.

I'd like our chances with Arky this year.

we have some young speed in the backfield with Bonner, Gray, and McNeil, and a couple others. It's just difficult for a HC to put true freshmen ahead of srs in the defensive backfield.

do you consider Teague and Brewer fast or slow?

Both are extremely fast imo - but have slow twitch muscles fibers - which negates their extreme speed and doesn't allow them to catch slower Florida and Georgia runners who have fast twitch muscle fibers.

You see -- it's all in the fibers. Someone clearly needs to coach their fibers to be faster twitchers. So simple.

We could go 0-12 and I would not switch teams. I am not actually being "put out" at all. As a matter of fact I am actually in the plus right now. I usually send an annual donation of 25,000.00 on top of my regular season ticket money to UT. I have done this since 2001. I had decided to stop doing it in 2010 when I noted the HC we had hired was a losing coach with little to feel good about. I did not support the idea that Tennessee had settled for a budget fix to coach this tradition rich program. I am letting the money sit for now. If and when Hart decides winning is important again, that money will be on it's way to UT. I know my cash hardly makes a dent, but there is alot of talk and I am not the only one who has stopped sending a check.

Again, if you actually donate what you claim....

Why don't you shift it to an academic program at UT?

At this point its worth the risk IMO. The SRs are making mistakes that you see out of FR. that coupled with less ability makes it an easier call for more.

I had a HS coach that always used the moto. If the Fr or So was equal to the Jr or Sr they play.

This is the way it is going to be for the next 10 years or more bologna is cheaper than steak, do I need to say more.

We are better this year, but so is bama, fla, ga, usce. We'd have to grow exponentially to be there this year.

I think we're close. I pegged 13 as the year leading up to the '10 season.

Do you consider Eric Gordon better or worse than Teague?

I haven't seen him practice at corner. He looks to have better game speed than Teague when he is playing the nickel, which is why I assume the coaches have him focused there.
I doubt so many different coaches on D have misread his ability to be an everydown corner.

What would you say the difference is in this years Arkansas team and last years? Serious question.

And how would you say on paper this years UT team stacks up against last years Arkansas team. Because IMO they very much resemble one another on paper. In fact, I think the offenses are very similar and I think we have more talent on defense.

So you don't think he's better than Teague?

at nickel, yes.

At corner, I would assume he would have to be, but what does it matter. Coach after coach doesn't see him as a starting corner, and they know more than we. Something else is there. Maybe he gets toasted on every play at corner, but is more comfortable and plays faster at the nickel. That happens all the time.

The question was about speed anyway. Whatever Teague and Brewer run, it's slow. Too slow to catch other teams TE in the open field and the slowest in the league. All db's make mistakes, but speed helps them lessen a mistake or makeup for one. When you don't have it, mistakes loom larger.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there.....

Not FAIL to you, Rich. FAIL was to strongtower for the link he posted.

I would be curious about your source for "The majority of people nationally don't think too highly of Dooley as a coach."

Source? About 2/3 of analyst think so.

I don't even blame DD. I just want to know why it takes us 5 years and we're still in the bottom half of the east. I don't get it.

Really? How long do you think that it should take to rebuild a program from one step above the death penalty to play in the SEC and be in the top 5 in the country (because that is what you asked)? I think 5 years is the minimum to go from where we were to the top 5 in the country. I say this because UGA was #5 when we damn near beat them and FL is #5 now. In the computer polls, FL is currently #1 in the country. Two of our other opponents are currently #3 and #1. I honestly don't know what people expect. We aren't nor have we been a perennial top 5 team at least in the 35 years I have been a fan.
