Why is it taking so long to turn around?

Mcneil and Randolph are SEC safeties. We don't have SEC corners, other than Bonner and Gray, who are freshmen.
It will take time to build this thing up the right way. Teague and his terrible play cost us Randolph cuz he was trying to cover for Teague's mistake. We need Alexander bad.

That entire play call by sal with the game teague had played, along with the situation of 3rd and 9 and down 7, and that DD, a position coach, sal, or a team captain, or even Teague, didn't call a timeout irritated me as much as any bad play or coaching blunder.

We need to bring in some sort of old Soviet coach. We hang huge Orange communist banners all over Knoxville and we march into the stadium.

We need an old gray fox to guide this nuclear sub of ours.

Smashing teams like Akron is a good way to get your youngsters feet wet. That's what most good teams do.

Fully aware of what other teams do. But playing against Akron talent isn't SEC quality players and that was my point.

Well, I was going to say because sh!t happens, but then, after reading a few posts, I realize it's because we hired Dooley instead of Saban or Meyer, or any other coach.

Ok...if you are serious, maybe I don't get it.

Would you please explain to me what the above has to do with anything relating to this thread or Vol football?

it's really not that hard of a concept..
OSU spent the money to hire a winner, Hamilton didn't

So while were celebrating moral victories, watching the longest winning streak in the NCAA fall to a piiful KY team, and hoping to beat MS State on Saturday..

OSU is 6-0 and just hung 60 on Nebreska

I don't think some people watch football outside of UT. Delay penalties, too many men, illegal motion, sub issues, missed tackles, blown coverages,...are happening in every football game played on the highest level with the best ever coaching and playing.

can you name another coach, that's lost two games after leading when time expired in regulation...

iirc meyer went to OSU that was loaded with talent....Dooley didn't have that option...and iirc..with 2 weeks before NSD..UT didn't have to many top notch coaches ringing the phone off the hook...
"OSU spent the money to hire a winner"...fla..recruiting hotbed....osu...recruiting hotbed....ut...not so much....
use your head...meyer only goes where talent is set in place..he'll be there about 4-5 years and he'll be gone....

No, but it's funny that if he didn't get screwed at LSU, you and others would have been raving about what great of a coach he was and that UT is back. A ref's blown call on a substitution rule is the fine line between opinions.

Wow another thread started about how Dooley can't get it done. I am wondering if the negavols lay in bed at night and think of ways to bash him even more. All I hear is that Saban did it at Alabama why can't Dooley do it at Tennessee. Sorry Dooley didn't have the luxury of inheriting a team that was full of talent or even having a full team. He inherited a mess with a huge turnover and 67 out of 85 scholarship players. Sorry all the Fulmer supporters the game had passed him by and it was time to go just not the way it should have. We got Kiffin who was just here to get his "dream job" and then leave UT in an even bigger mess. We had to hire a coach fast to keep the recruits from abandoning a mess and Dooley did a pretty good job at that. Also you negavols don't think about how fast he had to assemble a staff and pretty much got whatever he could take. Firing him no matter what after this season will be a big mistake no matter who they hire as a new coach. Who wants to coach at a school where if you don't win right away you will be replaced by someone who will. We have lost 2 games to 2 pretty darn good teams. We are moving in the right direction. At least we are exciting to watch now something that couldn't be said last year and with some breaks we can actually upset one of the bigger teams on the schedule. Oh btw Urban Meyer isn't a great coach with his own recruits that fill the whole roster look at Florida his last year. Give the man some time to prove himself we are finally at 85 players and we still got 7 games on the schedule left to make this season a good one.

What was the talent level that Urby inherited in year 1?

Blitzing Gordon (5'8"ish) at Driskell (6'4") was pointless. Teague playing that far off was pointless. Teague not making the tackle was terrible. Randolph getting hurt was catastrophic.

No real argument, but guarantee me a coach that will have 4.7 speed dbs and beat teams like #1 Bama, soon to be top 5 Fla, top 5 SC and #5 at the time GA on the road and you got a deal. We are picking a helluva hard time to make a comeback in this league.

So what your saying the dbs that Dooley recruited are slow ? Dooley is picking a helluva of a time to try and make a comeback.

Wasn't there a new rule created from the unc loss?? Thats saying something.

I also love the people who bash cdd by bringing up the whole 13 people on the field deal as if thats the only time in history that's ever happened. I was on the 4th row 35 yd line, same end of the field it happened, behind our Vols and it was chaos to say the least. But of course none of these smart arm chair coaches would have had that happen to them....:ermm::blink:

one blown call hasn't swayed my opinion, it's his Overall record that's a problem

I am speaking about that specific game. If, at that time, the refs called the game over due to the late sub and the running clock as they should have, Dooley would have been great and people would have been talking about us being back.

I realize one game hasn't swayed your opinion. The point is that if it weren't for a blown call, it would have swayed a lot of opinions, even if temporary.

Why did we hire him in the first place, because of his daddy or what I would like to know or was he the only one that would take the job, we got to open up the bank vault and pay some big money and get a winner in here instead of a loser like we got.

this is what most people have against DD.......
people don't understan how bad the situation was.they can't rap their heads around,(we had no talent),when DD became our head coach.an unnamed coach set our team back at least 3 to 4 years and pf quit evaluating talent.we had 4 or 5 classes that never panned out.1 class that a certain coach recruited had great talent but they are gone, except for a few players.we were down to 62 scholly players.i mean damn.facts are great to have.fwif'nw

we should win 8or 9 games this year.DD will be here next year.GO VOLS

Agreed. This is the key. When he got to UT, it was not a UT roster. At best, it was a "Vandy That We Used to Know" roster.

A team full of 3 stars, even if they are experienced and playing their heart out, still has a hard time against teams full of 4-5 stars bound for the NFL. The amount of guys that went pro the last two years shows what happened. Experience does not solve that problem.

I don't even blame DD. I just want to know why it takes us 5 years and we're still in the bottom half of the east. I don't get it.

Kiffin set us back 2 years with his "hot sauce/make a splash" recruiting.

LK ignored obvious needs on OL/DL. Half of his recruits from #10 ranked 2009 recuiting class are no longer on team.

That class would have been this year's true seniors and RS juniors.

Vols haven't had a strong senior class since 2009.

Senior leadership isn't a cliche - it is the difference of 4-5 years of hard work and growing up both physically and mentally.

they were 4 stars but most of them never saw the field.they were kicked off the team, left or told it would be in their best interest to find another place to finnish out their college career.a few players from other coaches have played but alot of these classes from other coaches were complete busts.

dd is finally getting our talent back to where it needs to be.they're not all 4 and 5 stars but they are playing.he needs atleast 2 more classes to get us back.if we can win atleast 8 games this year, prospects will see we're heading in the right direction.to fire him now would delay ut's climb out out of mediocrity.
