Why is it taking so long to turn around?

We had dropped to the middle of the pack a few years before Dooley arrived. The Fulmer exit was ugly, and while Kiffin's one year of football seemed even or maybe a bit better his year left us in even worse shape. Dooley was a last minute hire and his staff was scrambled together, ie chaos. Loss of almost an entire class left us young across the board. And a fan base that seems divided. The road back is going to be tougher. When both Majors and certainly Fulmer took over the SEC did not have 5 Top-10 teams to climb over to get back to the top. I hate losing as much as anyone and I do expect more than what we are getting, but I do believe we are getting better. Dooley was not my first choice for coach, but he is our coach and he and the team deserve our support. Let Dave Hart do his job.

I keep hearing about Dooley having to scramble to get a staff his first year and basically having to settle for what he could get. But the same people who say that refuse to view Dooley in the same light as that very staff they "scrambled" to assemble. I'm not saying he didn't have to quickly assemble a staff. But he was just as much of a panic hire as that staff everyone was so happy to see leave.

These teams recruit well because of the abundance of talent located in their state. As long as these programs are top 10 in polls, recruits are still going to sign there. As far as you not thinking it hurts recruiting, talk to some parents of players on here and see what they tell you.

Winning will bring the recruits.

Phil had 2 losing seasons as a HC, what was his excuse...lazy?

It has been since 1998 since UT has won the SEC Championship, subtract 14 years from a high school age leaves you with the age of 3 or 4, doubt these players we are recruiting remembers us back then.

Once the fans realize how irrelevant we have become the past 7 years you will better understand the challenge of rebuilding. We have more overall talent now than what we had 2,3 and 4 years ago. Have not heard of anymore Pilot robberies for cheeseburgers with pellet guns.

Winning will sway players from other states but it is going to take several seasons of winning to sway the top talent to come here or LSU, Bama, Florida and GA getting some NCAA violations and getting scholarship reductions.

Either Dooley is going to have to start winning in a big way, or you have to go get a guy that can get some of those players out of those states... Those teams are up right now with good coaches that makes it extra tough. Good news is the talent in this state is up over past years..

If Tennessee just got the best ones here it would help.. Hightower, Golden tate, Harrison smith.. Countless other good ones have gotten out of this state and are now playing in the league.. We need to do a better job in our own back yard first. Recruiting is decent, it could be a lot better especially with the money they're spending on it.

Took a while to get the talent level to where we have a chance to be competitive; just cause we are competitive doesn't mean we are going to win. We are finally competing, now we need to mentally re-learn how to win.

I'm telling you, winning will bring the elite recruits. The only way to go to these other states and get elite recruits is them having confidence in what you're selling. Other than a small faction of the UT fanbase, Dooley doesn't have a sterling reputation nationally. That's a fact. He's done a good job recruiting and building a foundation. But to pull a top 6-8 class a couple of years in a row, he's gonna have to win. And if he doesn't do it soon, his classes will actually get worse.

I guess we agree to disagree...fair enough?

OK, heres is a nice piece of information for you intellectuals to ignore. Ron Zook won 6 SEC games in each of his first two years as UF head coach. The third year he only won 4 SEC games and was fired. The coach who replaced him won 2 national championships in the next 4 years.

What's your point?

Did not say Saban took over an Alabama team that was tops on the west. Asked who was on top in the west when Saban got tnere. The answer is of course LSU. 26-23 under Shula meant all they needed was a few playmakers and they were ready to go. Enter Ingram and Jones and Richardson et al. UT was not nearly as sound when Dooley got here. We needed players. And playmakers. We really needed everything.

The biggest addition to Alabama was Saban. And our addition was Dooley. The results speak for themselves.

4-4 is a bad year. He's won 4.4.4.4.4.4.4 sec games in 2.5 ears. I look at that and see we're on par with Vandy and UK. I didn't think like that until I saw our sec record. DD can't coach. He is a demotivator.

THIS X 1,000,000 !!! :good!:

How old are you?

Part of being a grown up is accepting the TRUTH. Especially when it's staring you right in the face. Using that standard, you bunch of Dooley-loving, blind optimists, must average out around kindergarten age.

True. Now, is there a Saban like coach out there for us to get? Saban like would be a coach who won the first title at a school (LSU) in decades. Then was a hot commodity in the NFL. Seems like that would be Saban and Spurrier. Any guess where their teams are ranked? Any guess who has to play both yearly? Dooley is neither of those guys. But he is OUR guy. I am rolling with him. I said bad things about him before too. But I realize that he was given a bad start to his major college career. He deserves our support if we are Vols. Why should we (VOLS) go out of our way to pile on? What are we (VOLS) proving by hammering our own coach? -- Saban (twice) & Meyer took over solid programs with very good in-state talent. Dooley had the luxury of neither yet has had to face both, yearly. Les Miles had LSU handed to him on a silver ****ing platter. Georgia has superb talent for Richt to waste (which he does vehemently). Dooley has had an arrogant and spoiled fanbase on his arse from the start. He may not be the guy, but as long as he is, he is. Support our team. Or the other teams. Pick a side.

I don't think three years is long. By the end of this year you will have a very good football team put together. next year will be a quiet year on volnation, when all these negative nancy's have to go bootch about something else in their lives.

It's kind of like starting a business.

You bought the property, renovated the building, stocked your products for sale, hired a quality staff, and day after day noone comes in. It's moments like this that tell you that you have a lame brain running things.

UNLOCK THE FRONT DOOR DUMBAZZ!

And all the venom spewing, other team jock-tasting fools are very, very mature.

Pretty pitiful when the same ones over and over say the same things over and over, like reapeatedly *****ing makes it better.

I will only assume the same people are the ones in our personal lives that we stay away from because they are always *****ing about something and want to pull others down into their funk gutter.

It's a fact that a few get off on this stuff and can't wait for the next opp to spew more. It's their pain med and they are addicted to it.

I don't even blame DD. I just want to know why it takes us 5 years and we're still in the bottom half of the east. I don't get it.

Because of the starting point. Dooley's first signing class was preceded by 3 consecutive recruiting class busts.

I still don't think you can give DD alot of time. It just doesn't work that way. But the roster was just terrible when he arrived and then got younger in his second year.

This is the first chance he's had with a legit SEC level roster. Unfortunately, he has yet to impress with it either.

This is sad. The other "rebuilding" coaches mentioned like Saban and Spurrier, had some upset victories.
