So you think that he got the punishment he deserved for admitting his lie compared to Tressel saying a lie and sticking to it? I know that if you can do the crime, you deserve the punishment regardless of who you are.

I don't care what Pearl got. He deserved to be fired. We have a new coach that mouth breathers such as yourself are too dumb to support because you still have you head up your hero's ass. He's gone, and he's not coming back, so deal with it or go cheer for another team.

And I 100 percent agree agree agree agree with you on that. But, dont you think that there are other ways to get and catch fire for the program then winning? Yes. I do know that winning games is the best way to get people loving you, but I also think promoting the program can make your job easier then just going out and winning games and having the "I told ya I'd be a winner."

If Pearl had lost to Texas and got swept by UF and UK, he would have had far fewer supporters his first year regardless of what else he did.

He was a good coach for us. He was not anything remotely approaching a good man or an ethical man.

Come on man seriously? What makes you say that? Everything I saw in him he was an all around good man. Messing up one time and lying doesn't make him a "lowlife scum". I'm in no way trying to be an ass I'm just curious to what makes you think that?

Very few coaches have the marketing ability that Pearl does.

UTC, what was the marketing ability secret Bruce had when he took the job? He didn't have one. He just got up and yes, went out on a limb and talked up his program, gained support, and got people to come out his first year.

Honestly to me, if Martin would take an approach of just going out and getting on fire with the students and other fans, he could have the same success. I pray that he does well and never wish bad for him. I just think that he could do some better PR for the program. I loved Bruce as coach, I loved Phil Fulmer as coach, and I love Pathead as coach. Those are my favorite three coaches and will always be. Do I show favortism to them? Yes. Does that mean I'm a homer and shut the door to anyone who follows them as coach? No. I just want this numb feeling for UT Athletics to go away. I wasn't fortunate to go to UTK, even though I wanted too so badly. I am just a fan who wants us back to where we belong.

You clearly don't know much about him. I'll just leave it at that. You're free to think whatever you want.

He also had a fairly public affair and dumped his wife after he started making the big bucks.

I believe getting on fire with them would cause a lot of problems and burns.

Alum and LawVol, I'm sorry if I wavered from my original point. All I was just trying to say was that I think Martin could do a better job promoting the program to get more people to come to games in order for threads like this to not be created.

Alum, but did he lose those games? No. He coached what he had. Some his players, but some were not. He coached and won those games with what he had.

I apologize to you two if I came across as a Martin hater. I truly do. Didn't mean to start a ruckus. I'm a PR major and when I saw this tread and the first few posts, I went into strategy mode.

I'm for one glad we didn't hire a cheerleader. If people don't come to the games, it's on them, not Martin. If our fans are that pathetic that they have to have someone dress up like some kind of idiot as a publicity stunt, then I'd rather they keep their dumbasses at the house.

So LawVol, you have no childhood coaches or sports figures that were your hero's or guys you liked?

I don't cheer for guys that either put our program in the dumpster or in the middle of an NCAA ****storm. I don't idolize people like that.

That's not the point. The point is you don't need to resort to used car salesman tactics in order to get fans in the seats. If UT wins, fans will come. Look at how poor attendance was for a lot of last year. Was that because of Pearl not promoting the program enough or the fact that we were losing to horrible teams? When Martin starts winning games, attendance will pick up.

I understand that viewpoint, but take me for example. I'm 23. When I was growing up our football program was in the limelight and we had a successful coach. For the first time in my life we had a helluva Basketball program for a 6 year period.

Its easy to say you won't cheer for someone after the fact. Its hard to look at the body of work rather than the ending of a career due do success, violations, or other issues.

Alum, earlier I said that winning is the best, uno-numero, no doubt, certain, and undeniable way to get fans in the stands, but don't you think in the eyes of doubtful or unknowledeable fans, you could reach out someway to get them? I'm not saying go slick hair used car salesman. I'm just saying there are other ways that can help you out.

I've followed Tennessee and basketball my entire life. I can say that I wanted Pearl fired as soon as the NCAA crap came out, and I can say that I think Fulmer ran our football program into the crapper. Neither one deserves worshiping in my eyes. If you enjoy worshiping losers and liars, then that's your prerogative. I don't.

I wouldn't go that far he was a good coach and a very nice man that gave his all for us show a little respect for him.

He still calls it our team when taking on the radio here in Nashville. I liked him tons before he got us into this mess. Very smart, passionate man, that was exactly what the fanbase needed at the time. So far with Counzo, I am very impressed. Thought we would be getting destroyed by these last few teams we have played. The future looks bright IMO.

You want fans to get excited, win games. Win some BIG games, not just UNC Greensboro, ULM. I have been to all 3 home games and yelled my lungs out tonight from the 3rd row. I agree some fans (not all fans) are there to just watch and not cheer. Tobias Harris was in front of me trying to get fans to stand up and cheer. WHen things are going good, our fans are loud and stand up. However, when we get down by more than 5 points, everyone acts like they're at the Opera.

UT just doesn't have a very solid BB fanbase, which is easy to understand, given the program's history. If we start winning again, it will get better...but it will take time (and the changing hands of some tickets...)

I love the fact that 9,000 people left before the final buzzer. Ya know, we were only down 2 with 8 seconds left and had the ball.

Hope those 9,000 never go to a game again. Screw 'em.
