If we withdraw from NATO, do you think Trump would defend a NATO nation if Russia (or any other nation/group) invaded/attacked?

What does this have to do with lacking the resolve to withdraw from NATO

In 2017 Germany got 9% of its total energy consumption from Russian gas and 40 percent of its total gas consumption. Germany's energy mix for power production is about 40% coal, more than 30% renewables, less than 20% gas and 10% nuclear.

It will be much higher in the future. Germany is going to try and close their coal and nuclear. Which will leave them getting 80% from gas. Make sure you look at actual generation and not capacity. Renewables love to use capacity.

Russia was able to invade Crimea because we are war exhausted and the rest of Europe is either broke or beholden to Russia.

White House on John Kelly’s reaction at NATO breakfast: ‘He was expecting a full breakfast and there were only pastries and cheese’ - The Washington Post

You just cannot make this up.

Trump is a disaster. Come on! Get his azz out of there now! What an embarrassment he and the entire administration are to this country. Its pathetic.

I agree. It is a stupid reason for a news story. You almost have to try to be this offended. Maybe he had the doodoo sweats?

Trump's handling of this situation reminds me more of some drama queen taking what should be private conversations and instead talking $hit to her friends on Facebook for all to see.

And like the drama queen I'm sure he loves the attention he's getting.

Totally agree here. Good way of putting it. :hi:

You have not been in the PF long enough.....let me introduce you to LG...he is our resident "I know what everything REALLY means" go to guy....

It has everything to do with it.

I think the threat of pulling out of NATO is something the media is making up (shocking, I know) but the overall question he asks is largely ignored by the media.

That Reuters report said 35% of German oil and gas come from Russia. With that likely to go up in the future. How exactly can you defend yourself (in Germany's case) if Russia really wanted to apply the screws to them? I'm talking economically and militarily.

Trump is correct in bringing this up. NATO and Germany wants to talk about the possible threat from Russia. But they put themselves in a position to be beholden to the same nation that's threatening them.

Furthermore, you libs should be screeching to support Trump on this.

You want to hurt Russia? Do it economically. Europe buys their oil and gas from us or other non-aligned nations.

No profits for Russia, they suck again.

Whatever criticism Trump had to levy against Germany (and he should be able to differentiate between trade and national security), should have been kept out of the public realm. You don't bash an ally in front of cameras like that. It was uncalled for and not diplomatic at all. He is a bull in a China shop.

The Left isn’t ok with disparaging our allies but has no problem when their political leaders criticize nearly half of the American people every chance they get? You know: “deplorables”, “bitter people clinging to their guns and religion”, “angry white people”, “police are inherently racist”, etc.

Take it a step further, the left criticize our POTUS to the whole world....

There is nothing wrong with addressing that situation either. The way he did addressed it wasn't constructive.

I do question the "why" of the cameras in that meeting.

Plenty of times for that to come up behind closed doors. Of course, now that it's in the public, perhaps some will ask that question like I did.

Or screech like LG.

Again, the beef here is because of Trump’s style. It offends established sensibilities. These experts have believed it would prevent him from becoming President. Then they thought it would spell nuclear war with North Korea. It’s a line of thinking which continually proves them to be wrong.

It wasn't necessarily that he brought it up in public (although an issue in its own right), but how he went about it. As in life, it's not necessarily what you say, but how you say it. It just compounds an already unnecessary situation.

Its all screeching. Not a single one of us know what is going on behind closed doors. People pretending like they have the slightest clue is the clear sign of a BSer

No, I agree it likely wasn't the best avenue for such things.

But I think we'll agree it needed to be said.

You never answered mine. I’d like to know how anyone think Trump doesn’t have resolve. If he has anything it’s resolve.

I don't question the resolve of dissolving NATO on paper, I just don't think he has the resolve to dissolve NATO in geopolitical reality.

That is way more dangerous than the current situation in Europe.
