Ah, the old "but I know people that say ...". That's fine if you're argument is SOME Germans like Trump. Not so good if the argument is most Germans or Germans in general like Trump.
Whatever criticism Trump had to levy against Germany (and he should be able to differentiate between trade and national security), should have been kept out of the public realm. You don't bash an ally in front of cameras like that. It was uncalled for and not diplomatic at all. He is a bull in a China shop.
Trump's claim that Germany relies on Russia for 60-70% of it's energy is an exaggeration... and today really just further confirmed how much more comfortable Trump is, in dealing with authoritarian leaders than he is with our democratic allies. He has never been as publicly critical of Putin as he was Trudeau during the G-7 Summit or today with Merkel and Germany during the NATO Summit. That's a fact.

Furthermore, you libs should be screeching to support Trump on this.
You want to hurt Russia? Do it economically. Europe buys their oil and gas from us or other non-aligned nations.
No profits for Russia, they suck again.
Auntie Angela is pissed, though she doesn't address the criticism.
Trump and Merkel are headed for a one-on-one showdown after Trump said Germany was Russia's puppet - AOL News
Quote:
Just hours after Trump's comments, Merkel fired back, saying she lived in East Germany under Soviet control, and that things are different now.
"I am very happy that today we are united in freedom, the Federal Republic of Germany. Because of that we can say that we can make our independent policies and make independent decisions. That is very good, especially for people in eastern Germany."
Merkel also defended Germany's role in NATO, and pointed out that German soldiers are still fighting for US interests in Afghanistan after the US invoked NATO's mutual defense clause following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
"Germany is the second-largest provider of troops, the largest part of our military capacity is offered to NATO and until today we have a strong engagement toward Afghanistan. In that we also defend the interests of the United States," she said.
Found this interesting...
I tend to trust Reuters.

Tatyana Parkhalina:
"I never thought Id live to see thisneither the USSR nor Russia, who tried many times to drive the wedge between transatlantic allies, but Washington is doing everything to break down the foundations of transatlantic alliance & unity."

There was a deal in the works between the U.S. and Germany to import natural gas. But then the administration put a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum that killed the deal. Also importing liquefied gas from the U.S. needs to be shipped over the Atlantic which makes it more expensive.
