Why Tennessee will have a good season this year

Big deal. Did you miss the point completely? They allowed 300 ppg and that in the Big East for goodness sake. They were not a good defensive football team.

You conveniently left out ND and USC, huh? FTR, neither of them allowed 300 points and played much better schedules than SU did in 98.

In fact, ND took a USC team down to the wire... That's who Foster ran against.... So when you were comparing Foster 05 to Lewis 98... Lewis was a Sophomore, right?

I'm not saying that Foster will or will not be better than anyone to include Lewis. I am saying that your comparison is ridiculously unreasonable. You are trying to compare what a guy might do to what a guy did.

usc let brad smith walk all over them.

notre dame went to the bcs bowl, but were more overrun offensively than ever before i believe. 687 yards against them or something like that i believe.

Are you hyping the South Carolina defense that Missouri ran all over?

And you guys are still missing the point. The other guy gave Lewis' performances against Aub and Syr as proof that he was better than Foster. I pointed out that neither was good defensively that year and then an off the wall comment was made about who Syracuse had played so I responded to that.

... and the comparison is still invalid. AF may be great. He may have already seen his best day as a Vol. But you can't compare what he might do to what someone else has already done.

Would be no more unreasonable than those D's you were hyping.

Why don't we stop this ridiculous line of argument and let AF answer how he compares to JL on the field?

Foster does have talent and so do the guys who play behind them. Whether they'll be as productive as someone who played almost 10 years ago who had a couple of really good QB's to take the pressure off, we'll just have to see.

You are trying to say a team that was lousy last year is suddenly going to win 9+ games. I'll take arguing the talent of a guy who has a 2,000 season under his belt in the NFL against trying to play fluffer for this current team anyday.

hate I'll give you that last year the "team" was lousy. That is what chapped my rear so much because I don't think they should have been.

auburn only gave up 235 points in 1998...
Don't let facts get in the way. If you take out the points UT, Michigan, and Florida scored against Syracuse, they have good defensive numbers. We just need to face the fact TVols, Arain Foster is a combination of Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, Achilles, Robo Cop, and Earl Campbell. Also, every defense he played against last year was better than the '85 Bears and the '00 Ravens.

RoboCop. That is classic.:eek:lol: All those guys mixed together makes Adrian Peterson not AF.

i have been a vol fan since age 5, thats 49 years and counting, hopefully, disreali once said there are 3 kinds of lies,...lies, damnable lies, and stats. with that said, i have no argument with any statistical anlysis, but prefer to look at other factors. i have viewed this site for a few years, never joined, but enjoyed immensely. i am sure i am not the fan most of you are, except i aksed my daughter to play rocky top at her wedding for our song and for the final song when they walk my casket out. enuff...vols need good start against cal. and cal. is for real, then watch out for air force. i realistically expect a 9-3 season, would crawl to knoxville and kiss all 4 cheeks on CPF it we would go 10-2, or better. love the vols and thanks for all of you other volfans. its lonely hear in indiana, but i see more and more ut flags, decals, etc.
please excuse typos...gcbhoosier vol

Great first post. Welcome to the best College team message board on the net. Dont be afraid to express your opinions, no matter how much crap certain posters give you for it. I will have Rocky Top played at my funeral too. :)

This is the best post EVER.

Well hate, I have to disagree totally. I think that team should have been markedly beter.

I think that largely depends on what you believe regarding our wide receiver corp. If you believe our wide receivers' recruiting rankings coming out of high school, then you probably think that UT's team last year was far more talented than a 7-5 or 8-4 team. However, if you believe your own eyes, you realize that our wide receivers can't catch a cold, and that 8-4 was about as good as it could have possibly got last year.

I think the WR's have a ton of talent that never got brought out. period! Now if you wanna think they are not then fine. I happen to think they under achieved big time in the WR ranks.

Our wide receivers can't create good separation from defenders, and they can't catch a pass when it hits them in the hands. What exactly are the talents of our wide receivers? Are they prepping themselves for American Idol?

Those same wide receivers tore it up in 2004. The only one we lost was Tony Brown. I actually expected them to improve in 2005. I honestly thought we had the best WR corps in the nation at the start of last year. In fact, I figured they would make up for Ainge's shortcomings. Obviously, I was wrong.
