If we get Lawrence frank then sanctions dont matter. He'll be fine with a few less schollys cause he'll get top talent. Good bye. Flush yourself off of the Internet.

1. We face the same problem in football, no instate talent except for one city which is closer to most SEC schools than us and have Tiger High in town.Georgia is getting better and thats the state we have to dominate in order to recruit well.
2. Even the possibility that we could face major penalties will scare many coaches.
3. We have NO ONE returning if Harris and Hopson go. It will be a full rebuilding job.
4. Who would want to follow up a guy like Pearl who was as loved by fans as he was and make UT basketball what it is today.
5. Who wants to work for a weak boss like Hamilton who can't even keep you around if he wants you.
6. We are Tennessee, its a cursed establishment. Even when you win, you lose.

Don't you know son MONEY TALKS AND WE GOT MONEY!! You are dead wrong.. LOL:crazy:

Dooley type coach is exactly what i'm talking about. I'm not saying we'll get a bad coach but anyone thinking will get anyone who's on most peoples top 3 will be disappointed. The coaches we have on the top of our list can wait around for a job thats a better situation to open.

Well Tennessee's top 5 list, according to the KNS, is a little ridiculous... but I am not even sure if that is accurate or not.

Lawrence Frank seems to be the best possible get, with the right amount of money sent his way, in my mind.

Can't expect a better coach than CBP though.

I find the concept of 'big name hires' to be a musing. In either basketball or football, how often do teams get the 'big fish' that are out there?

A lot of people think we will get a great coach. Please me if we did. But, Tennessee is not the Mecca of college
basketball. We will get another also ran. I think we lucked up with Pearl. The sanctions will still be heavy even without Pearl. The NCAA will not fall for Hamiltons
maneuver to lessen sanctions. We will return to thinking
twenty wins is a great season and those will be few and far between.

I was under the impression that this was the precedent in these situations. He was the one who lied and now is gone. Why would that not lessen sanctions? Especially considering that this has been the case at other programs in the past (from what I have read, although I know of no specific example to reference here).

Who were the other also-rans and what is an also-ran for that matter? CBP was an up and coming coach from a smaller program. He made sense based on where the UT Basketball program was at the time. A risky hire, made with some basis of prior success was acceptable at the time. However, now expectations are much higher, and so are the facilities, fan support, and most importantly the checkbook.

I hope Hamilton surprises us, at this point I don't have very much faith in his ability to recruit a proven "big name" coach at all, not even if he had a $50 million a year salary limit to work with.

I'd think Frank would be better, but I don't think we can get him.

Hey guys, take a look at my posts in the "Coaching Search" thread that is stickied on the main forum. I have come up with some practical and creative solutions to how UT can land the big name coaches. Any feedback, negative or positive, is welcomed!

just look at the year before Dooley

What? Kiffin was considered a pretty big name when UT got him. Brought in a hell of a staff with him, too. This hire won't be easy because of the pending sanctions Bruce was nice enough to leave us with, but it isn't impossible.

what's funny is that you seem to think bruce "cheated" when what got him fired was lying over a bbq at his house.

I never said that. He was an idiot, panicked and lied about it then told recruits to lie about it. The "violations" weren't a big deal. BTW, Jewish people don't eat pork...so it was more of a cookout than a barbecue.

Pearl lied, adding to the problem, which is completely overlooked, is that his assistants lied as well. You HAD to can the staff. Yes, Pearl created excitement here, but he did it in violation of the rules. As Elaine said to the Soup Nazi, "NEXT!"
