Why we should be optimistic....

Im not counting Oregon as a definite loss. They may dominate the conference they play in but how much does that truly say. Im giving this game a 50-50 shot.

That's laughable.

With Kelly gone, I could see being generous with 70-30. But 50-50 is just silly.

i used to think "volsheimer's" stemmed from rolling through november undefeated. tennessee would look good beating up the november schedule and people would get excited about the following season.

2011 and 2012 and posts like this have nuked that theory.

i don't know what you saw out of either oregon or tennessee, that would make you conclude this is a 50-50 proposition.

in fact, let's get this out of the way......any game where there is that little "@" symbol and a number next to the name of the school on the schedule is damn near a lead pipe lock loss.

It is the middle of winter, some people get a little stir crazy, trying to warm up their cold football-less hearts. They fling their fingers around wildly on the boards, creating nonsensical sentences and claiming wild prophecies, in hopes of sturring something deep within themselves that they had forgotten- hope. This winter isn't simply physical and real, (for it is January) but it is spiritual and metaphoric as well. For winter has been the state of Tennessee for many years. It has been winter for the souls of Vol fans. Let us not judge them too harshly, nor comment too negatively, for they are trying to rekindle the youthful ignorance we all have forgotten, within themselve, in order to keep from freezing to death. Winter is a time to remain hopeful for spring, for summer, and finally football again. Shall we ask them to cast away that small flame of hope? To extinguish the little hope they have left. I would not be so cruel. If they believe there is hope for a ten win season or a 50-50 shot at Oregon then let them believe it! There is no harm in it.

So yes delusions run rampant in January, but then again its been January for far too long. So can we blame them?

I think we make a helluva run at the Music City Bowl and fall short. That's about as optimistic as I am going to get until they beat Oregon or Florida.

Dropping 50 on Austin Peay will not be the barometer for this team next year.

New QB, new offensive and defensive schemes, no returning play makers on offense, and returning a horrible defense means there will be numerous growing pains.

We will be more likely to lose a game we should win than win a game we should lose next season due to all the changes. Inconsistency breeds mistakes and mistakes cost teams games.

Not a new defense....it's the defense they actually know that they're going back to

With all due respect, for a 10-2 season you have to win 5 from the schedule below. This with players returning from a 5-7 '12 team, a new coaching staff, a new defensive scheme, and new, unproven skill players on offense. You also mentioned the talent that you'll have on NSD. Impact starting freshmen are rare, although not unheard of. I think you set yourself up for disappointment when you expect too much from a program. If CBJ wins 10 games in '13 he'll most certainly be SEC C-O-Y, and probably D-1. 10 wins might be the best coaching job I've ever seen. If you go 3-4 here, you've improved greatly, IMHO. Don't forget, these opponents have at least the same attributes that you mentioned above. Most, more.

Sept. 14 at Oregon Eugene, Ore.
Sept. 21 at Florida * Gainesville, Fla.
Oct. 5 Georgia * Knoxville
Oct. 19 South Carolina * Knoxville
Oct. 26 at Alabama * Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Nov. 2 at Missouri * Columbia, Mo.
Nov. 9 Auburn * Knoxville

3 and 4 out of that mess-----at best.

2 WRs??? Say what!!??

Tyler Bray
Justin Hunter
CP
Zack Rogers
Rivera

Dude we lost our entire offense!!! Our best returning skill player on offense is our middle linebacker!!!

And what exactly is a gimme win for us? We almost (should have) lost to Troy. We have lost to Wyoming at home. If your counting Western Ky as a gimme, your mistaken. Time to wake up and smell the roses.

My bad we lost 2 WRs that could start anywhere(even though hunter was highly disappointing due to his selfishness) and a TE....the only irreplaceable player is CP and all of our OOC games besides Oregon are gimmes and not really worried about UK, vandy, or mizzou.Quit using the years under that abomination of a coach as an example of what the team is capable of...Butch will get the team to play for each other rather than just play selfish like hunter did this year....and btw we will manhandle wku whether Perino is there or not....their 260 lb OL doesn't scare me...we have 10x better athletes

Aug. 31 Austin Peay -WIN
Sept. 7 Western Kentucky -WIN
Sept. 14 at Oregon -LOSS
Sept. 21 at Florida -WIN (maybe loss)
Sept. 28 South Alabama -WIN
Oct. 5 Georgia -LOSS
Oct. 19 South Carolina -WIN (maybe loss
Oct. 26 at Alabama -LOSS
Nov. 2 at Missouri -WIN
Nov. 9 Auburn -LOSS (maybe win)
Nov. 23 Vanderbilt -WIN
Nov. 30 at Kentucky -WIN

With my prediction we would be 8-4
If you use the situations that i put maybe beside its a possible 9-3 or possible 6-6.....any of the games that dont have maybe beside them I dont see us losing....so with my theory if we lose to everyone in SEC except mizzou, vandy, and UK we still finish 6-6 and thats not an amazing feat ....its more than likely to win them 3 than lose them IMO

The 10 win scenario:

Aug 31 Austin Peay in Knox = WIN
Sep 7 Western KY in Knox = WIN
Sep 14 @ Oregon = LOSS
Sep 21 @ Florida = LOSS
Sep 28 South AL in Knox = WIN
Oct 5 Georgia in Knox = WIN
Oct 19 So Carolina in Knox = WIN
Oct 26 @ Alabama = LOSS
Nov 2 @ Missouri = WIN
Nov 9 Auburn in Knox = WIN
Nov 23 @ Kentucky = WIN
Nov 30 Vandy in Knox = WIN

+ a Bowl WIN.

The two BIG "IF'S" here are USC and UGA.

Keep dreaming...

Why do people even attempt to believe this idiotic stuff?

GA and Fla will beat UT as always. SC will probably win again.

This team has at least 5 losses. Easy.

to try to break it down....

tennessee passing offense.....complete unknown. pass protection should be solid, but who is throwing the ball? who's catching the ball?

tennessee running offense.....slight unknown. yes, it's known who will be carrying the ball and who will do the blocking, but what effect will there be on the running game not having a couple of wr's who scare the crap out of a defense.

tennessee run defense.....complete unknown. all that is known is if they are twice as good they are still bad.

tennessee pass defense.....see tennessee run defense.

tennessee kicking game. no cp is a hit to the return game. palardy actually wasn't that bad after september. the punting needs to get better.

and of course, then there are the opponents and whether they are going to be better or worse.

but, i don't a glaring team strength on the field for tennessee in 2013 unless the staff is really able to get something out of them that no one has seen

Why the hell we care what you think......also unknown.

I don't see a strength in one particular area but I think they will be solid and the team will perform well with what we have and I think the D will return to the form of 2011....not great but top 30 which is decent

Jackass. No reason to be rude. He has every right to be here. Nothing he said was wrong. Quit being a dick just to be a dick.

This isn't an exclusive website. All fans are welcome. I would rather 10 of him be here repping Florida than 1 of you making UT fans look even worse.

Look who's talking about being a jackass. Hello pot.

By the way, no one said he didn't have a right to be here....just expressed that I don't care what he thinks.

A new coaching staff+new terminology+different themes on teaching technique in practice+different defensive philosophies= a new defense IMO.

Wilcox is considered multiple in his scheme and able to adapt to his personnel. That's why we saw more zone a cover 2 type defense his time here.

Jancek is more of a pursue and swarm guy who preaches turnovers. I expect the defense to be more aggressive than it was under Wilcox.

Whether that is good or bad depends on how much of the problem last year was a pure lack of speed in the secondary and how much was slow reaction time due to whatever the hell Sunseri was trying to coach them to do last season.

This defense can't possibly be worse than last year but there will be mistakes made.
