Interesting hire. Muschamp is the one BIG name coordinator that people know. The thing is, coordinators don't always pan out as head coaches. Only time will tell...

Much rather it be Muschamp than Mullen. This still leaves Florida with a glaring hole at OC, which has been the downfall of their program the last two years. He'll save their recruiting but I doubt he lasts more than 4 years.

I think he will take Major Applewhite with him to UF...IMO.

Here is the skinny. Florida called Will Muschamp 20 minutes after Urban retired. It was a done deal. No one knew of this even his brother Pat.
If true, Foley isn't anywhere near the AD his reputation would have us believe.

I wonder what Florida offered Muschamp that we didn't that made him decide to go to the swamp?

Exactly. It kind of frustrates me to now know that he apparently would have left Texas for the right amount of money. I guess Hamilton just wasn't wanting to pay a coach comparable money to what winning programs in the SEC pay. He was only willing to pay in the $2M, and that's the kind of results we can expect till we choose to start paying on their level.

i think the reason he took uf over Tenn was the fact that they are loaded with talent instead of a reload the whole program. It'd be a much easier transition to start a head coach job with good talent than a program that needs about 2 yrs of recruiting catching up

This is great news for the Vols!!!

Muschamp has never been a head coach or knows wht it entails. He will screw up a lot of times and give the rest of the SEC East the opportunity to catch up and kick the Gators in the teeth.

No offense, but I think this is the dumbest thing I've read today. Think about it.... how long has Derek Dooley been a HEAD football coach? 3-4 yrs..... It's not like we went out and got some experienced coach. I dislike the gators as much as any vol fan does, but we all know truthfully the guy can recruit for one.... and 2 he was indeed the head coach in waiting at a very prestigious football program at Texas. I definitely don't think he was the "best" hire for florida, but to say he's an absolute terrible hire is wrong in my opinion.

Go Vols!

Muschamp will certainly put together a great staff. He knows everyone in the SEC. I expect him to land Lance Thompson from our staff if Kirby Smart turns him down as the DC.

Muschamp was a deep reach down Foley's list. He was offered only after Stoops, Petrino, Whittingham. Petersen, and Mullen turned him down. Muschamp has zero head coaching experience and he will pull some major screw ups as he learns on the job. He will have tons of talent to work with, but will Florida fans be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he learns by making mistakes on the job?

So much for the "head coach in waiting" label..

Total bull**** way of giving a coach big money.
We got him.......Meaning this is good news for the BIG ORANGE. We got you Mushchampppp.
:loco::loco::loco:

So tired of Florida..This new generation of VOL fans deserve better. NO MORE OF gator domination.
IT HAS BEEN PUT TO REST...

Wow! We really suck! A fat a$$ coordinator is the best we can do? Unbelievable that he's the only guy interested in coaching us!

Here's to a minimum of 3 years of mediocrity, and then hopefully we fire Zook Jr and get another REAL coach!

Man, as if this season wasn't bad enough? Now I have to write off three more? We are now Vandy Junior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kentucky will beat us!"

It works in our favor. Muschamp will try his own system; Mullen would have worked with what they already have and had instant buy-in for a quicker, smoother transition.

Its pretty simple...UF is a better job than UT. If you put your fanhood aside, you can't really deny that.

Derek Doley has 3-4 more years of experience as a head coach than Muschmap has. This job could have been Dooley's had he sat still and stayed on Saban's staff, but he chose to forge his own path instead of riding on Saban's coat tails.

When you get down to it, the Vols hired a coach with three years head coaching experience who knew the pitfalls of being a head coach.

Muschamp was an assistant coach at Texas, where they put their pants on one leg at a time. Muschamp will learn while on the job and nobody knows how he will fare. You can expect him to make a lot of mistake over the next couple of years. He has never had to create , work with , have total control over, and execute a game plan before.

The only ignorant thing that I have read in this thread is someone who thinks that Muschamp is great because he was the assistant coach and head coach in waiting at Texas.

hiring a defensive guru as the HC when offense is your problem? i dont get it.

I was thinking the same thing, but then again, FLA loaded up on defensive talent last year. They say defense wins championships. Not this year though.
