Mullen would have paid Florida his first years salary to get the job. He was never offered the job, plain and simple.

Muschamp was a deep reach down Foley's list. He was offered only after Stoops, Petrino, Whittingham. Petersen, and Mullen turned him down.

Make up you mind...

Its pretty simple...UF is a better job than UT. If you put your fanhood aside, you can't really deny that.

I don't deny that for a second. That's why we can't expect to field any sort of contender while paying a coach half as much money for twice the job. $2M isn't going to get the kind of coach that UT needs to win championships. I swear at times it seems like MH simply aims to compete, rather than win big.

I love it.. We never beat Meyer but Muschamp should never beat us....lol

Now what bothers me is Mack Brown has two Coordinator openings , Muschamp has two Coordinator Openings, Miami has a HC and Two Coordinator Openings and then Alabama may lose their O Coordinator.... Hope we keep some continuity with our coaching staff.

I'm guessing he'll poach the best offensive gurus available. I hope our guys stay loyal and stick around to help CDD build something exciting here.

This hire has huge upside. He can assemble a staff that knows the SEC, probably add Kirby Smart as his DC, and is a relentless recruiter. Those young UF defensive players will be terrifying in a few years and he will keep adding talent. His OC hire will be the most important hire of the season in the SEC.

He will inevitably make some mistakes just like all first time HCs, that is why the staff is so important. If he doesn't assemble a good offensive staff, it could be 2010 UF all over again.

On behalf of the entire Tennessee Volunteer nation, I fully endorse the hiring of Will Muschamp as Florida's sparkly new head coach

Derek Doley has 3-4 more years of experience as a head coach than Muschmap has. This job could have been Dooley's had he sat still and stayed on Saban's staff, but he chose to forge his own path instead of riding on Saban's coat tails.

When you get down to it, the Vols hired a coach with three years head coaching experience who knew the pitfalls of being a head coach.

Muschamp was an assistant coach at Texas, where they put their pants on one leg at a time. Muschamp will learn while on the job and nobody knows how he will fare. You can expect him to make a lot of mistake over the next couple of years. He has never had to create , work with , have total control over, and execute a game plan before.

The only ignorant thing that I have read in this thread is someone who thinks that Muschamp is great because he was the assistant coach and head coach in waiting at Texas.

What's your opinion of Dan Mullen then? You think Miss St. fans are upset now for hiring a coach with no head coaching experience??? I don't think so.

Guess we will see how he does since we courted him so hard last year and he turned us down.

Florida is not Mississippi State and the expectations are much higher. Now if you want to compare apples to apples, compare Mississippi State to Minnesota.

I wish you had that kind of optimism about UT football...

I just heard this while watching the heisman presentation. I am shocked. First I can't believe its not Dan Mullen or even Charlie Strong. Second, I can't believe someone actually convinced him to leave Texas. They must have really thrown the cash at him. Honestly, IMO, we are much better off than if they had hired Mullen. Muschamp is a defensive coach, hopefully their offense continues to struggle. Go Vols.

I would like to thank Muschamp for his Dooley recommendation. I could not be happier with any other Head Coach and the staff he has put together. GBO!!!

Why in the hell would Smart leave Bama for the same position at UF??

Muschamp will certainly put together a great staff. He knows everyone in the SEC. I expect him to land Lance Thompson from our staff if Kirby Smart turns him down as the DC.

Muschamp was a deep reach down Foley's list. He was offered only after Stoops, Petrino, Whittingham. Petersen, and Mullen turned him down. Muschamp has zero head coaching experience and he will pull some major screw ups as he learns on the job. He will have tons of talent to work with, but will Florida fans be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he learns by making mistakes on the job?

Link?
because what i am reading Muschamp was the only one offered. or at least the only one interviewed.
